Dave Bautista in Talks for ‘God of War’ Role as Kratos

Prime Video‘s God of War series has found a new lead actor to replace the injured Ryan Hurst. Dave Bautista will on the role of Kratos in the series, which is based on the long-running video game franchise. Hurst (The Odyssey, Sons of Anarchy) was originally cast in the role but had to step aside after tearing a bicep while performing a stunt on set. Prime Video confirmed Bautista’s casting after initial reports in early August that the actor was in talks to take over the role. Bautista is a known quantity to both viewers — via Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Dune Part Two, plus his time as a WWE star — and Amazon MGM Studios, which is producing God of War with Sony Pictures Television. Bautista has appeared in Amazon MGM’s two My Spy movies and The Wrecking Crew and has roles in the studio’s forthcoming features Highlander and Road House 2. The highly anticipated God of War Laufey game has finally had its release date confirmed, four years on from Kratos and Atreus’ last outing in God of War: Ragnarok. God of War Laufey is a new chapter in the series and will be released on 16th February 2027, as Laufey learns she must fight through the afterlife of the gods. The release date was confirmed at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, which also saw Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog announce that the next Kratos-led God of War game would be coming after God of War Laufey and is directly connected to her story, as per IGN. During the panel, Barlog said of the upcoming Laufey-led game that he wanted to see an extension and expansion of the world where the characters we meet are unexpected. “Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next,” he explained. “Phranque has been around since the beginning. The upcoming action-adventure game shifts focus from god of war Kratos to his eponymous wife (voiced by Daredevil‘s Deborah Ann Woll), who isn’t having as peaceful an afterlife as her family likely hoped. Having died and left behind her husband as well as their son Atreus, Laufey — also known as Faye — finds herself in the Everywhen, an afterlife for the gods. However, though she is technically dead, this appears to be a temporary setback for the Jötunn warrior. Encountering various gods from across mythology, including Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and Mongolian god Begtse, Faye will battle through the Everywhen to find her way home and protect her family.
