All the Liquid Glass Changes in macOS Golden Gate

All the Liquid Glass Changes in macOS Golden Gate

When Liquid Glass launched in macOS Tahoe, Apple faced criticism over how the design looked on the Mac. Some people felt that Liquid Glass in ‌macOS Tahoe‌ was an afterthought with little impact from the design update, while others had issues with contrast, readability, rounded corners, and design consistency. There were long complaint threads on the MacRumors forums and on Reddit, and some people refused to update. Apple is making several changes to Liquid Glass and the overall macOS Golden Gate design, and while subtle, some of the changes could make Liquid Glass on Mac easier to digest. Transparency and Diffusion Apple added a full Liquid Glass slider under System Settings > Appearance. It changes the translucency of Liquid Glass elements, and users can choose a clear version of Liquid Glass that allows some of the background to show through, select a more opaque, tinted version that improves the legibility of text, or choose something in between. Unfortunately, there is no ultra-clear version of Liquid Glass available with the slider. Even the setting that’s as …

Liquid Glass for Linux? PearOS makes another Mac move – how it looks now

Liquid Glass for Linux? PearOS makes another Mac move – how it looks now

Jack Wallen/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways PearOS is aiming for Apple’s Liquid Glass desktop. The distribution is far from ready for general usage. PearOS gives you an Apple Intelligence-like experience as well. I’ve been keeping an eye on PearOS for some time. I covered PearOS before, calling it a Linux distro that makes your old laptop feel like a Mac. Since that original review, the developers have decided to up the ante and bring about a Liquid Glass-like look for the distribution. And although PearOS still has its quirks — the development “team” consists of one person, which means progress is slow — the latest release has a new base, a new design, and a “new everything.” Also: The best Linux laptops in 2025: Expert tested for students, hobbyists, and pros The new release is still based on Arch Linux and KDE Plasma, and is still promising the new desktop environment, Soda, but that portion of the project is still listed as “currently unavailable.” This latest version is …

I replaced liquid metal with a thermal pad and my laptop finally stopped throttling

I replaced liquid metal with a thermal pad and my laptop finally stopped throttling

Laptop cooling, especially for gaming laptops, is crucial. You’re usually averaging around the high 80s to 90s at full throttle, so you’ll want all the help you can get. Thermal paste just isn’t good enough here, which is why many manufacturers have opted to switch over to liquid metal. As the name implies, it’s a high-performance alternative to standard thermal paste solutions and uses metal alloys that remain liquid at relatively modest temperatures. Liquid metal is incredibly conductive, though, and is a pain to apply correctly. Enter PTM7950, a promising “new” alternative that has all the advantages and none of the drawbacks. I recently bought a small pad of it myself, and the difference was quite stunning. Related I’ve been using laptop cooling pads for decades and … they’re useless Laptop cooling pads are one of the biggest cold myths in tech. Applying PTM7950 to the laptop and GPU A simple but very powerful upgrade I mostly work on a thin, light laptop, and in this case, the Asus Zenbook 14 UX3405 proved very capable …

MacOS 27 Rumors: End of Intel Support, Smarter Siri, Tweaks to Liquid Glass and More

MacOS 27 Rumors: End of Intel Support, Smarter Siri, Tweaks to Liquid Glass and More

Apple’s annual developers conference, WWDC 2026, kicks off on Monday. Tim Cook will deliver his last WWDC keynote as Apple CEO, where he’s expected to share previews of the next versions of the company’s various software platforms. Likely to take center stage is iOS 27, but we will also get a glimpse at MacOS 27, which will arrive alongside its mobile sibling in a few months. The usual cycle is this: a preview and developer beta in June at WWDC, followed by a public beta in July before the official version launches in September. MacOS 27 is expected to focus more on performance and stability improvements than introducing a drastic design shift or a bevy of new features. That said, it appears the next version of MacOS will look and act a bit differently than last year’s MacOS 26 Tahoe.  Check out what could be coming to your Mac this fall, and find out if your current Mac will be able to run the update. Watch this: Siri’s Google Brain: What to Expect at WWDC 2026 …

Leaker: Foldable ‘iPhone Ultra’ Will Feature Liquid Metal Hinge

Leaker: Foldable ‘iPhone Ultra’ Will Feature Liquid Metal Hinge

Apple’s first foldable iPhone will feature an innovative liquid metal hinge and has now shipped prototype units to carriers around the world for testing, the leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital” today said. In a new post on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital said development and production related to the foldable are now “progressing rapidly.” The claim arrives one day after the leaker reported that the foldable iPhone would feature vapor chamber cooling. The liquid metal hinge detail is significant in light of the ongoing debate over the device’s production difficulties. Earlier reports from the leaker known as “Instant Digital” attributed manufacturing problems to the hinge failing Apple’s quality control standards under prolonged, high-frequency open-and-close testing. Fixed Focus Digital previously pushed back on that characterization, arguing the hinge was not the primary source of difficulty, and today’s post appears to position the hinge as a resolved and confirmed element of the design. Liquid metal is an amorphous metal alloy with a notably higher strength-to-weight ratio than conventional metals, along with superior resistance to corrosion and wear. …

Is bovine colostrum really ‘liquid gold’ for gut health? : NPR

Is bovine colostrum really ‘liquid gold’ for gut health? : NPR

Andrea D’Aquino for NPR Known as “liquid gold,” colostrum is the first milk that mammals produce after giving birth. And it’s chock full of antibodies, proteins, vitamins and minerals that help build up a newborn’s immunity and strengthen their gut lining. But this substance that’s uniquely tailored for newborns is also receiving plenty of attention from adults who’ve taken to chugging bovine colostrum. Cows make more than their calves need so excess colostrum is collected, pasteurized, dried, and packaged for human consumption. Wellness influencers and social media personalities are talking up bovine colostrum as a must-have supplement to support gut health among a range of other benefits. Want the latest stories on the science of healthy living? Subscribe to NPR’s Health newsletter. The claim Among the most common assertions about colostrum is its ability to improve a range of gastrointestinal woes. Influencers also suggest it can help boost the immune system, and help with issues as diverse as skin tone, hair growth and low energy. Apple Developer App Gets Liquid Glass Makeover and New WWDC 2026 Stickers

Apple Developer App Gets Liquid Glass Makeover and New WWDC 2026 Stickers

Apple today updated its Apple Developer app, introducing a Liquid Glass redesign and giving developers some WWDC-themed stickers that can be used in the Messages app. The Apple Developer app has a revamped Liquid Glass icon that reintroduces some older design elements while adopting the translucent Liquid Glass aesthetic. The icon has a pencil, paintbrush, and ruler that form the “A” shape, which is a departure from the prior version with a more generic design. There are also Liquid Glass design elements in the app, with Apple adopting a translucent navigation bar with a Liquid Glass slider, and a separate search button. The stickers include a 50th anniversary design, a skull with an Apple eyepatch, a juice box, California poppies, and holographic-style hello and WWDC 26 options. The stickers are all animated. Apple says the app also includes list filtering by Unwatched, Bookmarked, and Downloaded, along with preferred topics. Image capture during enrollment has also been improved. Thank you for your feedback! New in this release: – Refreshed look with Liquid Glass.– List filtering by …

Google Says Pixel Phones Won’t Get Apple’s Liquid Glass Design

Google Says Pixel Phones Won’t Get Apple’s Liquid Glass Design

The Android operating system for Pixel smartphones is not going to take design cues from Apple and adopt a Liquid Glass aesthetic, Google Android president Sameer Samat said recently (via 9to5Google). In response to a social media mockup of an Android device with a Liquid Glass design, Samat said, “Not happening! Y’all are wild.” The mockup was in response to a teaser video for The Android Show: I/O, which depicted the Android mascot pulling a light switch and turning translucent. The teaser led Android users to believe that Google would adopt an iOS-like design for Android. Google’s Pixel devices use its Android operating system, but Google also allows other smartphone makers to use Android. Companies like Oppo and Xiaomi have variants of Android that have been updated with similarities to Apple’s Liquid Glass, and even Samsung has mimicked some of Apple’s design elements. Apple introduced the Liquid Glass design in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26, with a unified design across all of its software platforms. The new design has …

The 50-year quest to create a quantum spin liquid may finally be over

The 50-year quest to create a quantum spin liquid may finally be over

For minerologists, a mine is an invitation. The earth has been broken open, its veins laid bare – and those who enter hope to find unknown wonders. In the 1970s, Kali Kafi mine near the small Iranian town of Anarak fulfilled that hope. There, among the dusty desert rocks, Joachim Otteman and Darius Adib saw a bluish-green glow. They took samples of the glassy mineral and analysed its structure back in the lab. What they knew was that this geological species had never been catalogued – they named it anarakite, and it lay forgotten for decades. What they didn’t know was that the emerald glow they unearthed may have been hiding a remarkable quantum secret. This isn’t any ordinary rock. Anarakite – later renamed herbertsmithite – could be a rare type of matter known as a quantum spin liquid (QSL). Whether these occur naturally is hotly debated, but if the physicists who think they can are right, nature could be creating highly entangled states. Physicists know how to create entanglement, too, but only in limited …
