Thelma and Louise star, 70, hasn’t aged a day in stunning red carpet appearance

Thelma & Louise actress Geena Davis looked younger than ever as she stepped onto the red carpet at the amfAR Gala Cannes on Thursday night ahead of her hosting duties. The 70-year-old stunned in a white, off-the-shoulder gown with a plunging neckline framed by structured folds that showcased her lithe figure.  Geena brought the drama with a lengthy, voluminous train and completed the look with a diamond cuff and dangling diamond earrings. She wore her brunette locks in stylish, subtle waves down her back and looked confident as she prepared to host the fundraiser.  The star, who has been a staunch feminist and activist for women in film for decades, opened up to The Times about how aging had taught her to accept her beauty.  © Variety via Getty ImagesGeena looked incredible in the plunging gown “It’s a struggle. It’s [always been] a struggle,” she said of having self-confidence. “It’s got much better over the years. I feel like I’ve got more attractive with every decade. Lady Louise Windsor directs Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh during rare public appearance

Lady Louise Windsor made sure to take her part-time role at the Royal Windsor Horse Show seriously on Saturday, with the young royal even seen directing her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, around. Wearing a hi-vis jacket and a blue velvet hat, Lady Louise acted as a steward at the event, helping people to their assigned spots and making sure they remained behind the metal barriers. Although she made sure her parents were observing all of the rules, Lady Louise could be seen happily chatting to the pair, who have been attending most days of the show this year. At one point, she was even seen making her father laugh as she mimicked carriage driving, a hobby that she is very fond of. She was later seen directing the pair to the next event that they wanted to observe, before they went their separate ways. © Alamy Stock PhotoThe royal made her father laugh Lady Louise’s job HELLO! understands that the young royal takes on a part-time job at the show, held in …

Inventor Beulah Louise Henry’s unstoppable rise to becoming ‘Lady Edison’

Inventor Beulah Louise Henry’s unstoppable rise to becoming ‘Lady Edison’

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. Beulah Louise Henry was just nine years old when she came up with her first invention in 1896, a device that allowed a man to tip his hat without ever putting down his newspaper.  By her death in 1973, at the age of 85, she’d come up with so many more—a doll with eyes that changed color with the press of a button, a sewing machine without a bobbin (a threaded spool that slowed down work because it had to be frequently refilled), a clock designed to help kids learn to tell time, and others—that the press even dubbed Henry “Lady Edison.”  Her ideas, she once told a reporter, were “messages from a guiding spirit.” Beulah Louise Henry’s early life Henry grew up a daughter of fortune in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her father Walter was a prominent lawyer and orator. Her mother, who was also named Beulah—a common tradition in the late 19th century—was a homemaker and the daughter …

Exclusive: Lady Louise Windsor doing ‘extremely well’ in carriage driving, says insider

Like her grandfather before her, Lady Louise Windsor has taken up the reins in the world of carriage driving. At 22, she continues to follow, or rather drive, in the late Duke of Edinburgh’s footsteps, with one trainer telling HELLO! that Louise is “doing extremely well”.  Sara Howe, who owns and runs the Bradbourne Riding & Training Centre in Sevenoaks, sees Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth’s youngest granddaughter out at competitions. “I think she’s doing extremely well with the time and the commitment of everything else she has to do,” Sara exclusively told HELLO!. “She’s a pleasure to work with.” “She certainly tries. She gets frustrated when it goes wrong, like the rest of us do. So she still goes home and practises and comes back and there’s an improvement,” the trainer added of Louise. “She looks more than good.” Although Louise might not be winning the class she’s in, she’s certainly not at the bottom, as Sara pointed out. “If you look at the results, and if you’ve got ten in a class or 15 …

55-Foot Louise Nevelson Sculpture Housed in NY Synagogue Is For Sale

55-Foot Louise Nevelson Sculpture Housed in NY Synagogue Is For Sale

In 1985, Paul Schwartz, and his wife Amy, were shul shopping after moving from Manhattan to Great Neck, New York, when they came across Temple Beth El. Upon entering the synagogue’s vast sanctuary, Schwartz nearly fell over upon seeing what lay behind the bimah, the raised platform where services are led: a white, 55-foot-long, 16-foot-high Louise Nevelson wall sculpture with a built-in Torah ark and an eternal light by Nevelson hanging above it. “I knew immediately what it was,” Schwartz told ARTnews recently, adding that only days earlier he had read an article about Nevelson by critic Clement Greenberg. “I said, ‘Oh my God, Amy, I could sit in front of this and meditate.’” The Schwartzes have been Beth El members ever since. Related Articles The sculpture, The White Flame of the Six Million, was commissioned and donated to the synagogue by real estate developer Wilfred Cohen and his wife, Rose, who were Beth El members. The occasion was the addition of a 1,900-seat sanctuary, designed by Armand Bartos & Associates, onto Beth El’s original …

At Centre Pompidou-Metz, the late resurrection of sculptor Louise Nevelson

At Centre Pompidou-Metz, the late resurrection of sculptor Louise Nevelson

“Rain Forest Wall” (1967), by Louise Nevelson. TOM HAARTSEN/ARS/NY/ADAGP/MUSEUM BOIJMANS VAN BEUNINGEN By taking the risk of staging a retrospective of Louise Nevelson (1899-1988), the Centre Pompidou-Metz once again proves itself to be one of the few French museums where artistic curiosity still thrives. Why a risk? First, because while the artist and her work were internationally recognized from the 1960s to the early 1980s, her fame subsequently collapsed. A legal dispute among heirs prevented exhibitions for nearly 20 years, and when they resumed, it was slowly and modestly, in the United States and Europe. That is the first challenge. The second difficulty lies in the physical nature of Nevelson’s most remarkable works. These are environments made from assembled wooden volumes, most often painted black, to which the artist frequently added irregular columns and sorts of altars or chests. Created for the American Pavilion at the 1962 Venice Biennale or for exhibitions at New York’s Whitney Museum and MoMA, these installations were monumental and rarely preserved intact – especially since Nevelson did not hesitate to …

Exclusive: Dr Louise Newson wants us to stop talking about menopause

When Dr Louise Newson starred in the Davina McCall documentary Sex, Myths and The Menopause back in 2021, her expert comments were pivotal in shifting the conversation on women’s health in the UK.  Before the show aired most women of perimenopausal age were struggling with symptoms, scared of HRT and feeling gaslit by doctors who, to be fair, were also untrained in what their symptoms meant. Now, with more research and sharing of real life stories on platforms such as Second Act, we are all a lot more clued-up on recognising the symptoms. The campaigning from Dr Newson, our columnist Mariella Frostrup and all at the Menopause Mandate even created change in the NHS when they finally added perimenopause screening to the women’s health MOT test. © InstagramPenny Lancaster and Ateh Jewel celebrated the first birthday of the Menopause Mandate So why, five years on, as Dr Newson is set to appear in a new documentary Balance : A Perimenopause Journey, does she want us to stop talking about the menopause?  “I don’t like the …
