Democrats raised $500 million in Q1 from main fundraising platform

Douglas Rissing | Istock | Getty Images ActBlue, a donation website helping Democratic candidates raise small-dollar donations raised $568 million in the first quarter of the year, according to the organization. That’s a 50% increase over what was raised in the same quarter during the last midterms in 2022. The total included $391 million to federal candidates and $119 million for state and local candidates, the group said. In addition to federal, state and local candidates, ActBlue is also used by other Democratic groups. About $58 million was raised for charities and civic organizations, according to the group. ActBlue said it received 15 million total contributions, including 686,000 new donors, according to the group. The average donation through the platform was $38. ActBlue’s announcement comes ahead of its official filing of their March fundraising details. Politicians often tout small-dollar donors as evidence of grassroots support while also raising money from congressional leadership and corporate political action committees that take in larger donations. The following contest is … one of the strangest we’ve seen in pro wrestling in a while. WrestleMania 42 is a few weeks away, and a surprise entrant has inserted himself into the Las Vegas action — and I’m only tangentially talking about Pat McAfee, the former NFL punter-turned-podcaster and part-time Monday Night Raw commentator. On Friday night’s SmackDown, longtime WWE Superstar Randy Orton’s secret adviser putting even more voices in his head was revealed to be none other than McAfee, for some reason. For many fans, it felt out of left field, to borrow an analogy from a legitimate sports competition. Orton and McAfee don’t seem to share any particularly meaningful connection and they generally don’t even work on the same WWE show. In wrestling parlance, McAfee wasn’t even a heel until the reveal — a turn — he worked as Raw‘s babyface announcer. Multiple explosions ripped through the city of Bujumbura after a fire broke out late on Tuesday at a military arsenal in Burundi’s economic capital, an army spokesman said. Fear of a coup in the small African Great Lakes nation gripped the population after a projectile landed close to the national radio broadcaster, a resident living near the affected building told AFP, requesting anonymity. In a video seen by AFP, a tall mushroom cloud of smoke loomed over a neighbourhood in Bujumbura at nightfall, which another resident described as “spreading terror” across the city. Very tall flames were also visible in a photo sent to AFP, while a Burundian media platform also relayed reports of gunfire. “A serious electrical accident in the ammunition store of the FDNB (Burundi National Defence Force) based in Musaga is the cause of the explosions currently being heard in the economic capital Bujumbura,” Burundian army spokesman Gaspard Baratuza said.
