Two alumni of the Department of Government Efficiency are bringing their cost-cutting experience from Washington to the private sector, launching Special, a startup that aims to harness artificial intelligence to wring inefficiencies out of what it describes as America’s $10 trillion Main Street services economy. Nate Cavanaugh and Justin Fox spent much of 2025 at DOGE, where they spearheaded the Small Agencies team. Their government stint, under the high-profile effort led by SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, contributed to approximately $215 billion in estimated savings. The pair departed in September 2025. VATICAN CITY (RNS) — Pope Leo XIV published on Monday (May 25) what is already being called the keynote document of his papacy, titled “Magnifica Humanitas” (Magnificent Humanity), a sweeping encyclical addressing what he considers a new industrial revolution fueled by artificial intelligence. While the document extensively reflects on AI and its repercussions on society, war, work and education, its real focus is offering the Catholic Church’s wisdom on what makes humanity, well, human. If the title doesn’t make that priority clear, then the text reinforces it: “Human” is the most repeated meaningful word in the official English version, followed by “social” and “person.” Leo looks with concern at a culture that sees people as “a means of achieving results, a resource to be used and exploited.” He also warns of certain mindsets, such as transhumanism and posthumanism, that are popular in Silicon Valley and that hope to build a human-machine hybrid world or, worse yet, substitute humanity with machines altogether. Married at First Sight UK’s new spin-off series Second Marriage at First Sight is reportedly set to continue pre-production. In a recent BBC Panorama investigation, two women said they were raped by partners they met on the main show, while a third described an allegation of a non-consensual sex act. They all said the show did not do enough to protect them. Channel 4 announced on Monday that it had commissioned an external review last month into contributor welfare on the series following “very serious allegations of wrongdoing against a small number of past contributors”. The broadcaster has also pulled all episodes of MAFS UK from its streaming and linear services in light of the allegations. Now, the Daily Mail claims that upcoming spin-off Second Marriage at First Sight will continue in pre-production while the review is carried out.
