Tigers’ Triple-A Manager Says He Was Fired After Sending ‘Inappropriate’ Text to Female Colleague

Tigers’ Triple-A Manager Says He Was Fired After Sending ‘Inappropriate’ Text to Female Colleague

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — The Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A manager says he was fired this week after sending an “inappropriate” text message to a female colleague. The Tigers announced Tuesday that Gabe Alvarez had been fired for what they called a “violation of club policy,” but they did not specify the violation. Alvarez told ESPN on Wednesday that he sent “a single text message to a colleague that I intended as a lighthearted joke. “Shortly after sending it, I recognized that the message was inappropriate and did not reflect the values and judgment I strive to uphold, and I immediately reached out to clarify my intent,” he said. “I never intended to cause discomfort or offense, and I regret that the message created this situation. This was an isolated incident and not reflective of my long-standing record of professionalism, respect for colleagues, and conduct over the course of my career.” The 52-year-old Alvarez played parts of three big league seasons as a third baseman for Detroit and the San Diego Padres before working as an assistant …

This extension finally turns KDE into a tiling window manager

This extension finally turns KDE into a tiling window manager

KDE is great. It’s probably my favorite desktop environment, and I’ve been on a bit of a hopping spree lately. It’s mostly stable, and offers a ton of customizability baked into the system menus itself. Still, by nature of its design, KDE does not support tiling at all, at least in its vanilla state. Yes, there are ways to manually tile windows together, but it’s a lot less intuitive than proper auto-tiling layouts. Disappointed as I was, I decided to dig up some recommendations. Of these, I had used Bismuth previously. Unfortunately for me, Bismuth didn’t have any support for Plasma 6, which is the current version of KDE. Things changed when I laid eyes on Krohnkite. This simple extension made tiling in KDE a lot more effortless, while retaining enough customizability. Related I switched my Linux desktop environment from GNOME, and it’s so much better One offers more control, the other is a bit more opinionated. Installing Krohnkite was a bit of a challenge Make sure to grab the most up-to-date fork Krohnkite isn’t …

I stopped paying for file manager apps after discovering what Android already has

Like many folks, I also used to rely on third-party apps to manage files on Android. I wanted better organization, faster file transfers, and advanced tools like file compression. Frankly speaking, the built-in options felt too basic. Well, I used to think like that until I tried Android’s built-in file management features. After using them for a while, I realized that I didn’t need my third-party app at all. Surprisingly, Android already offers an array of powerful file management features that rival popular apps. Related My Samsung has security features I’ve never seen on any other Android phone Samsung is clearly ahead of the curve. I didn’t realize Android’s file manager is this good Don’t underestimate it Most Android devices have a preinstalled file manager. If you own a Pixel phone, you have Files by Google; Samsung users have My Files. However, these apps are also easier to overlook. At first glance, I found Android’s built-in file manager too basic. I thought they were nowhere closer to dedicated third-party file managers. Once I started exploring, …

Manager at Lucy Letby hospital arrested on suspicion of perverting course of justice | UK News

A manager at the hospital where Lucy Letby worked has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with an investigation into the child killer. They were detained as part of the probe into corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital, Cheshire Constabulary said. Officers carried out a search warrant at a property on Wednesday and the individual was arrested and later bailed pending further inquiries. Their name has not been made public. “Both the corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter elements of the investigation are continuing and there are no set timescales for these,” the force said. The force previously arrested three individuals who were part of the senior leadership team at the hospital between 2015 and 2016 on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. They were bailed pending further enquiries. The individual arrested on Wednesday is one of those three people. The Rise of the House Manager

The Rise of the House Manager

Here is the promise of a house manager. Hire one, and soon someone else could be doing your laundry, washing your dishes, prepping your meals, and completing those Amazon returns you’ve been meaning to make. They could reorganize the utensil drawer, notice if your kid is outgrowing their shoes and order more, take your car to the repair shop, and be at home to meet the plumber. If your child needs food for a class party, a house manager could make the dish and drop it off; if that child also has a pet lizard, a house manager could buy the crickets to feed it. House managers are not a nanny or a house cleaner. They’re a “chief of staff for the home,” a “personal assistant for Mom,” and “a clone of myself,” according to the more than a dozen people I spoke with who have either hired one or work as one. They are, in effect, what might have once been called a housekeeper—a person who helps oversee a household’s basic functioning. Middle- and …
