Cats are one of my favorite things ever to exist. They’re soft, cuddly, and incredibly adorable, and I love them more than words could properly describe. But did you know that they’re also incredibly good at telling you how your computer is running? Well, not your real-life cat. If I talk to Dale, Dougie, or Dipsy, my three furbabies, they’re just going to meow at me and tell me that they’re hungry. I’m talking more about RunCat365, a diagnostic program that is minimized in my system tray and gives me up-to-date information about how my PC is running. Microsoft Windows has been with us for more than 40 years at this point. Over that time it’s managed to gather all kinds of add-ons, companion apps, and utilities that you may not necessarily have discovered. Some of these are made by Microsoft itself. There’s Microsoft PowerToys, for example, which lets you tweak everything from keyboard shortcuts to the layout of your desktop. There’s also Microsoft Journal, a journaling app designed primarily to be used with a stylus on Surface computers. Here though we’re focusing on Microsoft PC Manager, which first appeared in beta form in 2022, and is now available for free to anyone who wants to give it a try. According to new reporting by Semafor, the news wire’s product manager for AI strategy Aimee Rinehart embraced her inner “Star Trek” villain by bluntly telling her stuck-in-the-past, pencil-pushing grunts that resistance to AI is “futile.” Reporters, not heeding her warning, rebelled anyway. The internal controversy played out as AP staffers discussed how the Cleveland paper The Plain Dealer embraced using an “AI rewrite specialist” to turn reporters’ field notes into full-blown articles. The paper’s editor had lamented how an intern pulled out of a reporting fellowship after discovering that the position required feeding notes into an AI writing tool instead of writing stories. Sanford “Sandy” Wernick, a longtime talent manager of clients including Adam Sandler, Lorne Michaels, Tim Herlihy, John Davies and Rob Schneider, who also became partner and senior executive vp at Brillstein Entertainment Partners, died Thursday. He was 86. Wernick died in Rancho Mirage, California, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and loved ones, a family representative told The Hollywood Reporter. Born on March 22, 1939, in the Bronx, Wernick went on to serve in the Army from 1960 to 1962 and graduate from NYU. Before becoming a manager in the 1970s, he worked as an agent and made his way from the mailroom at MCA to vice president of the TV division at ICM. Later in his career, he became a partner and senior executive VP of Brillstein Entertainment Partners. While working in television, Wernick co-created and executive-produced Def Comedy Jam. He was also involved in packaging and producing shows such as Saturday Night Live, The Muppet Show, The Sopranos, Politically Incorrect, Just Shoot Me, NewsRadio, Alf and The Larry Sanders Show. A tenant posted on Reddit to share the message they received from their landlord, who was offering them the opportunity to serve as a resident manager responsible for the entire property in exchange for a small monthly rent credit. On its face, the offer sounds compelling. Who doesn’t want a rent credit each month, especially considering how expensive housing costs have become in recent years? The problem was that the landlord wasn’t exactly offering a credit that reflected just how much work the manager position would entail, and they weren’t willing to negotiate. A landlord offered their tenant the opportunity to be a ‘resident manager’ in charge of the entire property for a $30 monthly rent credit. “Hi. Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for upcoming wedding-set horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which is led by The Night Manager star Camila Morrone. The series comes executive produced by Stranger Things pair Matt and Ross Duffer, and was created by Haley Z Boston, who previously worked on another Netflix horror series, 2021’s Brand New Cherry Flavor.
