Pajor finally gets her winner’s medal as Barca claim women’s Champions League

OSLO, May 23 : Barcelona’s Ewa Pajor bounced back from five women’s Champions League final defeats to win the title at her sixth attempt, scoring twice to set her side on course for a 4-0 win over OL Lyonnes on Saturday that finally got her a winner’s medal.  The five defeats in the decider – four with German side VfL Wolfsburg and one with Barca last season – had left the Polish striker wondering if she would ever win the competition. On Saturday she took matters into her own hands by scoring the first two goals as the Spaniards romped to victory.  “It’s the best day in my life. It’s a great day. I am grateful to be part of this great team. I don’t know what more I want to say because I am very emotional today,” the 29-year-old Pajor told reporters. “I want to say thank you to my teammates for their hard work every day, to be here again and to win in the final. “Of course, losing five finals was difficult …

Buda Mendes/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Buda Mendes/Getty Images Multi-sport athlete Oksana Masters arrived in Milan Cortina as the most decorated U.S. Winter Paralympian in history, with 19 medals already under her belt from both summer and winter Games. But a series of setbacks had her wondering if she would add to her collection — let alone make it to the start line in Italy. Just two days before the opening ceremony, Masters announced on Instagram that she had been in and out of hospitals with a concussion and recurrent leg infection that kept her from training — not long after recovering from hand surgery for a torn ligament. She said she cried every day leading up to the Games, admitting, “I’m not the same skier as I was training to be.” But she didn’t give up. “I might not be my best, but I will have the …

Dr Hannah Critchlow awarded 2026 Rosalind Franklin Lecture Medal – Humanists UK

Humanists UK hosted the 2026 Rosalind Franklin Lecture, titled ‘The Science of Fate’, delivered by neuroscientist, broadcaster, and author Dr Hannah Critchlow. Chaired by journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed, the lecture explored how our biology, our brains, and our experiences shape who we are – and what that might mean for ideas of free will, identity, and human connection. Hannah began by asking a deceptively simple question: what makes us who we are? From our habits and beliefs to our relationships and emotional lives, she said, neuroscience is increasingly showing how many of our complex behaviours are deeply biologically ingrained. Reflecting on her early experience working as a nursing assistant on adolescent psychiatric wards, she described how this first sparked her desire to understand the brain better – both to improve treatment, and to answer deeper questions about what creates our individual life stories. Hannah staged what was a Humanists UK first: a live electroencephalogram (EEG) demonstration. With an audience volunteer wired up on stage, the room watched the electrical activity of the brain in …

Winter Paralympics 2026: latest medal table for Milano Cortina | Winter Paralympics 2026

Winter Paralympics 2026: latest medal table for Milano Cortina | Winter Paralympics 2026

The Winter Paralympics return to Italy for the second time in 20 years. From the fashion capital of Milan to the dramatic peaks of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Milan Cortina will take place across northern Italy, marking the 50th anniversary of the first Paralympic Winter Games. The medal table prioritises the number of gold medals won. If countries have the same number of gold medals, the order is then dictated by which has the most silvers, and finally bronze if the numbers are still identical. The Paralympics open on Friday 6 March in the Arena di Verona and the Games will will showcase around 665 athletes competing in 79 medal events across six sports – para alpine skiing, para biathlon, para cross-country skiing, para ice hockey, para snowboard and wheelchair curling. There will be a new medal event at these Games as wheelchair curling mixed doubles slides into the mix. The closing ceremony will take place on 15 March in the revamped Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium, the former venue of the 1956 Olympic Winter Games. Source link

Amanda Reid (Para-snowboarding – SB-LL1) Already a two-time Summer Paralympics gold medallist, the remarkable Reid will make history as Australia’s first Indigenous Winter Paralympian in the weeks ahead. The Wemba-Wemba and Guring-gai woman started her career as a para-swimmer, competing at the 2012 Games, before switching to track para-cycling. Success soon followed, with silver at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio before consecutive gold medals in Tokyo and Paris, alongside a dozen world titles. Not content with domination in the velodrome, Reid took up para-snowboarding in 2023 and won …

Donald Trump sparks fresh health concerns at Medal of Honor Ceremony

Donald Trump sparked health concerns once again when he was seen at the Medal of Honor Ceremony on Monday with a red, scabbed rash on the right side of his neck. The rash, which sat between his ear and the beginning of his hairline, was quickly addressed by the White House physician, Dr Sean Barbabella. “President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment,” he shared in a statement. “The president is using the treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks.” Dr Barbabella did not elaborate on what cream he was using or what the underlying issue was.  © InstagramDonald was seen with a red rash on his neck Social media users speculated as to the cause of the rash, with one writing: “Strange marks on Trump’s neck,” while another added that he could have a “nasty” case of shingles or that “he is getting his dry cleaning done on his flights and wearing his …
