White Castle is expanding its menu with the permanent addition of the Southwest Veggie Slider on June 15. The meat-free slider, a first for the chain, boasts a Dr. Praeger’s vegetable-based patty made from sweet potatoes, black beans, corn, red bell peppers, onions and carrots, coated in a crispy brown rice crust. It’s seasoned with smoky chipotle and sweet barbecue flavors and comes topped with jalapeño cheese on White Castle’s signature slider bun, though customers can swap in American or cheddar cheese if they prefer. The slider starts at $2.49, depending on location, and joins the chain’s lineup alongside its beef, chicken and fish offerings. The new menu item was developed …

It’s the daily puzzle that underpins everything else. The meal squeezed in between work and washing up, eaten around crowded tables or in front of the television, shared with friends, partners, children or simply ourselves. Yet despite being one of the most important rituals of everyday life, dinner is rarely afforded the same attention as restaurant openings, viral recipes or elaborate weekend cooking projects. In But First, Dinner: Food for Our Real Lives, food writer Eleanor Steafel turns her attention to those ordinary meals and the lives built around them. Part cookbook, part memoir and part meditation on modern eating, it celebrates the dishes that reliably feed us, comfort us and bring people together. These …

Four coaches have been adorned with striking designs depicting memorable moments from the show, accompanied by the message “Discover Scotland, Home of Outlander”. This “visual takeover” aims to inspire fans to visit the Scottish locations where the series was filmed, encouraging travel via the overnight service that connects London and Birmingham with destinations across Scotland. Heughan, who portrays Highlander Jamie Fraser in Outlander, was present at London Euston station on Thursday to reveal the newly decorated train. The initiative is a collaboration between tourism and events organisation VisitScotland and Sony Pictures Television. Passengers can also look forward to an Outlander-inspired menu on board this summer, which will feature Sam Heughan’s own whisky, The Sassenach. Sam Heughan unveils …

Sisyphus in the Kitchen: The Tradwife Brand and the Closed Menu of Women’s Lives

Sisyphus in the Kitchen: The Tradwife Brand and the Closed Menu of Women’s Lives

The slogan: “Make America Great Again” works by inviting us to long for a past that was ordered, stable, and allegedly better than the present, without ever specifying for whom it was great or what made it so. When that nostalgia is cashed out in concrete proposals about women’s lives, a particular picture emerges in which women appear primarily as wives, mothers, and helpmates whose worth is exhausted by domestic and reproductive labor. This picture, I argue, is hostile to women in that it curtails, on an arbitrary basis, those activities women have available to them to make meaning in their lives. The central claim is that by reviving and seeking to mandate traditional gender roles, these movements constrict the range of life projects women can pursue, relegating women to a more extreme Sisyphean existence than they would otherwise experience. The harm is not that some households choose to organize themselves around these roles, but that the choice to do otherwise is increasingly pushed out of reach. The greater danger lies in enforcing traditional roles …

Your Samsung TV has a secret menu that does 5 things you actually need

Samsung is one of the biggest device manufacturers in the world and for good reason. The company is known for its phones, smart home devices, and TVs, to name a few.
