There was more to the ceremony than the winners, though: there were several moments that stood out as highlights, ranging from Hamnet star’s Jessie Buckley’s acceptance speech to host Alan Cumming’s running joke centred on Paul Mescal. We’ve run through the most notable takeaways from the 2026 Baftas below. Paul Mescal Attends Ahead of Beatles Biopics

Paul Mescal Attends Ahead of Beatles Biopics

Paul McCartney was able to count on a little help from his friends, as Paul Mescal was among the attendees at a special screening for the legendary Beatles musician’s new documentary project. Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville‘s movie Man on the Run screened Wednesday at a London event ahead of its global streaming launch via Prime Video on Feb. 27. The Amazon MGM Studios documentary centers on McCartney’s life in the 1970s following the contentious breakup of the Beatles and includes his music success throughout the decade with the group Wings. “I want to say thank you to Morgan for keeping all the embarrassing moments in that I asked him to take out,” McCartney joked from the stage as he and Neville introduced the movie. “No, he’s made a good film, so thank you, Morgan.” Paul Mescal (left) and Gracie Abrams attend the London screening of Man on the Run. Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney has the internet in a chokehold

Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney has the internet in a chokehold

The first official look at Sam Mendes’ ambitious four-film Beatles project has landed, and the internet appears to be in rare agreement when it comes to Paul Mescal stepping into the role of Paul McCartney. And honestly? I get the hype. It’s giving less “actor playing Paul” and more “the spirit of McCartney himself briefly possessed this man,” sparking the kind of collective approval that almost never happens online. The stills offer the public its first real glimpse at Mendes’ unprecedented “cinematic event,” set to hit theaters in April 2028, which will tell the story of The Beatles across four interconnected films, each centered on a different member of the band — Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Mashable Trend Report SEE ALSO: The internet’s British boyfriends, ranked While anticipation has been high since the project was announced, Mescal’s McCartney has quickly emerged as the early standout, fueling excitement that Mendes’ high-risk, high-concept take on the most famous band in …

The Beatles movies first looks see Paul Mescal and co. transform

We’re still more than four years away from The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinema Experience being released, but already excitement is at fever pitch for the star-studded movies. Now, for the first time, we’ve been given a glimpse of what the central four actors – Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan – will look like as the Fab Four. The first look came via the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), which was given exclusive postcards promoting the new films and has hidden them around their campus. They have also posted pictures of them on Instagram. The postcards each feature a picture of one of the stars in character, revealing who they are playing. For instance, Mescal’s reads “Paul Mescal is Paul McCartney”. You can now see the full images in the gallery below. Oscar nominations snubs and surprises: Paul Mescal and Ariana Grande among biggest oversights

Oscar nominations snubs and surprises: Paul Mescal and Ariana Grande among biggest oversights

SNUB: CHASE INFINITI, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER Hudson’s inclusion meant that Chase Infiniti did not get her first Oscar nomination for One Battle After Another. Her performance as the teen Willa, wrapped up in a life-or-death situation of her parents’ making, was the heart of Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece, and an arrestingly great screen debut. SNUB: AMANDA SEYFRIED, THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE  Amanda Seyfried was not as widely expected to get a leading actress nomination as Infiniti was, but she deserved one for her visceral, ecstatic turn as Shakers founder Ann Lee. With only one nomination to her name, for playing Marion Davies in Mank, Seyfried is becoming one of our most underappreciated talents, at least as far as awards are concerned. SURPRISE: AMY MADIGAN, WEAPONS  Oscar voters hate to be boxed in, and apparently this year they heard the cries about biases against horror movies. Zach Cregger’s Weapons was certainly one of the most talked about films of the year, but that doesn’t always translate at awards time. But Amy Madigan, who seemed …

Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal And Hamnet Cast Dance To Rihanna On Set

Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal And Hamnet Cast Dance To Rihanna On Set

Hamnet may be one of the biggest tearjerkers of the year, but as a new clip shows, the cast found moments of lightness while making the film. A newly-released video from the set of Hamnet shows Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal dancing to Rihanna’s We Found Love while filming on location in London’s Globe theatre. In the clip, Jessie and Paul can be seen carrying Jacobi Jupe (who played Hamnet) on stage and bouncing him around as the cast dances around them on stage in costume. Co-stars Noah Jupe and Joe Alwyn can also be seen on stage in full Elizabethan garb, busting moves to the pop song. At one point, Paul also twirls the young actor around, while Jessie jumps around next to them. Finally, the camera pans to show the entire theatre, full of extras, and the director, Chloe Zhao, joyfully dancing along with the rest of the cast to the Rihanna tune. The moment of catharsis was filmed during the movie’s haunting finale, as Agnes watches Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, from the crowded …

The Irish actor, 29, stars opposite Jessie Buckley in Chloe Zhao’s film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel Hamnet, which is receiving rave reviews from critics along with plenty of Oscars buzz ahead of its UK and Ireland release date on 9 January. Meanwhile, Mescal has also been promoting his other film The History of Sound, a wartime love story in which he stars alongside Josh O’Connor. In a joint interview with O’Connor for The Guardian, Mescal acknowledged that he is five or six years into his career, adding that while he feels “very lucky” he is also learning that “I don’t think I can go on doing it as much”. Asked if he meant he might start rationing …
