On Sunday, June 14, the White House is set to host its first professional sporting event in U.S. history: UFC Freedom 250. Thanks to the UFC-Paramount deal, tonight’s main MMA event between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje will air exclusively on Paramount+. For a free workaround, UFC fans can sign up for one of DirecTV’s Signature packages to get three months of Paramount+ Premium included at no cost. This is on top of DirecTV’s five-day free trial. The UFC’s $60 Million Made-for-TV event intentionally coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday. The FBI will be getting a little help from the UFC this week. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the mixed martial arts promotion UFC said Thursday that UFC fighters will travel to the FBI Special Agent Academy in Quantico, Virginia this weekend to train FBI agents-in-training as well as senior FBI staff from around the world. The federal law enforcement agency and the MMA company say that the athletes and UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard “will provide insight into how they train for competition, as well as demonstrate specific techniques and tactics, offering a unique perspective to the students as they prepare to enter the field office.” The UFC, of course, is set to host an event on the South Lawn of the White House this June. Netflix has another dream fight 10 years too late: Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will go toe-to-toe in an MMA fight on Saturday, May 16. The match will stream live on Netflix from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles — the rest of the card will be announced at a later date. The Rousey-Carano fight will take place inside a hexagon (and not octagon like the UFC) cage. Rousey vs. Carano marks Netflix’s first-ever mixed martial arts event. It is also the first foray into the sport for Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Jake Paul’s events company. Rousey and Carano will face off as featherweights (145 pounds). The fight will be professionally sanctioned under the Unified Rules of MMA and take place over five, five-minute rounds (as necessary) using four-ounce gloves. A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a talented boxer and MMA fighter. Duane Keen, 47, was discovered with serious injuries and pronounced dead at an address in Riverside Drive, Blaenavon, in the early hours of October 17, last year. Kai Pennell, 35, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday where he entered a plea of guilty to Mr Keen’s murder. He also pleaded guilty to destroying property, namely a white Suzuki Swift belonging to Rebecca Phillips. Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the recorder of Cardiff, remanded Pennell, of Riverside Drive, Blaenavon, in custody to appear for sentencing on February 24.
