The Bear star teases acclaimed show’s “gut-wrenching” finale

The Bear star teases acclaimed show’s “gut-wrenching” finale

It will soon be time for fans to say goodbye to The Bear with the acclaimed Disney+ comedy-drama being brought to a close with its fifth season.

Now, one of the stars of the series since season 1, Edwin Lee Gibson, who plays Ebraheim, has spoken exclusively with Radio Times, to tease the show’s final run.

“We knew we were coming back last summer,” Gibson said of when he learned that the show would be getting a season 5. “We didn’t know that it was necessarily going to be the final series, but we kind of figured it out on set.

“Then when the final episode was sent to us, we were all like [disappointed] ‘Ah!’ But you know, you want to go on top.”

When it comes to going out on top, Gibson said that he “really dug” the scripts for season 5, and that he was “really excited about where Ebraheim went from series four to series five”.

“And it was just nice to see how Christopher [Storer, creator] crafted season five, so that the last episode, while it was gut-wrenching, it made sense. Of course, I think there’s still more story there.”

That final statement – that Gibson still thinks there could be more story to tell – will surely give fans hope that even if this is the final season, there could be more stories in the world of The Bear going forward.

When asked about how Ebraheim’s story is different in season 5 to the show’s previous runs, Gibson said: “In a word, more. That’s as much of a tease as I’m gonna give.”

He continued: “I think people will be very happy. But I also think people will be asking for more of him. And I’m very excited about what I think the reaction will be.

“I felt the show was releasing Ebraheim into the wild, if you will, to kind of let express himself a bit more. Because audiences have been asking for it, and I know that the commitment’s to the other characters, but my job as an actor is to make sure that this character doesn’t get lost. But I do think audiences will be really, really happy and really, really clamouring for more of him.”

The Bear season 5 will see all of the central characters return, including Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy, Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie.

The synopsis for the season says that it “picks up the morning after Sydney (Edebiri), Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie ‘Sugar’ (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them”.

The synopsis continues: “With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”

The Bear season 5 will premiere on Disney+ on Friday 26 June 2026. You can sign up to Disney+ from £5.99 a month now.
