Mike Myers makes unrecognizable rare appearance to honour Eddie Murphy at the AFI Life Achievement Awards

Mike Myers makes unrecognizable rare appearance to honour Eddie Murphy at the AFI Life Achievement Awards

There are red carpet moments, and then there are movie history moments. Mike Myers delivered the latter in spectacular style as he stepped out in one of his most unexpected appearances in years to honour longtime friend and collaborator Eddie Murphy at the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Awards. In a move that instantly delighted fans, Mike appeared wearing a full green prosthetic mask, transforming himself into none other than Shrek, the beloved ogre he famously voiced. It was a playful, deeply nostalgic tribute that nodded to the pair’s enduring on-screen partnership. Because of course, long before this awards night reunion, the two icons created cinematic magic together in Shrek, with Mike voicing the grumpy-but-lovable ogre and Eddie bringing the endlessly energetic Donkey to life. Their chemistry became the beating heart of the franchise, turning it into one of the most successful animated series of all time. © Getty Images for AFIDave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, posed with AFI Lifetime Achievement award, and Mike Myers attend the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award Taking to the stage, still fully …

Eddie confirmed Saturday that his son Eric and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin had a baby girl named Ari Skye. “They just had a baby girl,” Murphy told E! News at the American Film Institute achievement award ceremony April 18. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye.” Fans were stunned when the couple announced their engagement back in November 2024, making Eddie and Martin — who starred together in comedies Boomerang (1992) and Life (1999) — part of the same family. Speaking about becoming a grandfather, Eddie said that he didn’t have any advice for the new parents, …

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Stevie Wonder Honor Eddie Murphy at AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Stevie Wonder Honor Eddie Murphy at AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Kevin Hart opened up the tribute to Murphy, by talking about the influence he had over every comic’s career and the walls he broke down as a black comedian. This was a prevailing theme throughout the night. “He’s our power. He’s our friend,” Hart said. “And even you white people think he’s your friend, and he’s done a lot to show you different! He’s given us the gift of laughter across generations.” In video interstitials, Murphy reflected upon his career. He pointed out that in Beverly Hills Cop, his character flipped the script on the usual tropes by having a black man not just tolerated in a position of power, but to take charge. He cited Peter Sellers as an inspiration to play multiple roles in movies like The Nutty Professor and Coming to America. He also pointed out that the industry initially complained about the novelty of Boomerang‘s all-black cast when it first premiered. Stevie Wonder received a standing ovation when he took the stage. Murphy famously parodied Wonder on SNL, but the two …

Eddie Murphy Receives 2026 AFI Life Achievement Award at Starry Gala

Eddie Murphy Receives 2026 AFI Life Achievement Award at Starry Gala

Eddie Murphy didn’t have a ton to say after a two-hour tribute inside Hollywood’s Dolby Theater Saturday night as he received the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award. But he did have some jokes. “Have these always been this size? It seems like this is small. Is it?” Murphy asked as he held the silver star trophy. The crowd — filled with a who’s who of comedy heavyweights, studio heads, Oscar winners, filmmakers, actors and fans — laughed at the quip. But there might’ve been some truth to it, too, as no award could measure up to the larger-than-life career Murphy built across five decades. At 65, Murphy said he found his way to the stage at just the right time. Accomplished enough to deserve it, young enough to fully enjoy the friends, collaborators and family members who filled out the black-tie event, and still spicy enough to toss out some of his signature humor. Spike Lee, the last in a starry parade of presenters to honor Murphy, had the task of presenting him with that …

Brewers Inherit ‘Rally Tortoise’ After Manager Pat Murphy Is Told No Pocket Pancakes in TV Interview

Brewers Inherit ‘Rally Tortoise’ After Manager Pat Murphy Is Told No Pocket Pancakes in TV Interview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — First, the Milwaukee Brewers had “pocket pancakes.” Now, they have pocket turtles. This all probably needs an explanation. During a game last August, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was caught taking a pancake from the pocket of his hoodie for a midgame bite, right in the middle of a dugout interview during a game against the Nationals. It wasn’t necessarily new for Murphy, who’s been known to have everything from waffles to eggs rolls close at hand should he get the munchies. Back to the turtle — er, tortoise. The Brewers were supposed to play the Royals on Friday night on Apple TV, though the game was called 90 minutes before first pitch because of the rain. During a pregame interview with Apple’s reporter, Tricia Whitaker, Murphy said he was informed “under no uncertain circumstances, no pocket pancakes” during their talk, so he pulled out what was supposed to be a pocket turtle. “This is Bobby Jr.,” Murphy said in presenting it to her, having named the creature after his longtime …

Evloev edges Murphy to set up UFC featherweight title shot

Evloev edges Murphy to set up UFC featherweight title shot

LONDON, March 21 : Russia’s Movsar Evloev overcame a point deduction for a foul to edge a majority decision win over Lerone Murphy at Saturday’s UFC fight at the O2 Arena, likely punching his ticket to a title fight against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in his next bout.  With the two fighters putting their undefeated records on the line to decide who will face the 37-year-old Australian Volkanovski for the belt, the bout turned into an intriguing clash of styles. Evloev, who is known for his wrestling, tried to showcase his striking while Murphy displayed some superb defensive work on the ground.  Murphy evaded the fearsome grappling attack of his Russian opponent for the first two rounds of the five-round bout, using a selection of stiff right hands to keep him at bay, and Evloev took the chance to exhibit some of the dangerous spinning strikes he has added to his repertoire since his last fight in December 2024.   Evloev finally managed to take the fight to the mat early in the third round but Murphy …

Peaky Blinders icon Cillian Murphy talks stopping generational trauma

Peaky Blinders icon Cillian Murphy talks stopping generational trauma

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine. Tommy Shelby has been in our heads for 13 years, but even longer in Cillian Murphy’s. British TV viewers first encountered the Birmingham gangster in September 2013, when he rode a black stallion through the streets of 1919 Small Heath. For Murphy, presently sitting opposite me in a London hotel suite, the introduction came months before that, when he first opened Steven Knight’s script and realised Shelby was a part in a million. “I could tell that it was special,” says Murphy, a glossy amalgam of expensively barbered hair and radiant skin that belies his 49 years. “I read the opening sequence where he rides into Birmingham. That wordless, western style, it was instantly iconic, if that’s not an oxymoron. So bold and so confident. I knew I wanted to do it.” Murphy compares Peaky Blinders to a motorbike ride where, “Tommy Shelby is driving the motorbike and I’m in the sidecar going, ‘OK man, I trust you,’ and then he’s off. Very quickly I became the …

The Cork-born star led the acclaimed crime drama for nearly a decade, portraying the ruthless leader of the Birmingham-based Shelby family. While the series concluded in 2022, Murphy is set to reprise his role in the forthcoming spin-off film, The Immortal Man, which will see Shelby drawn back from self-imposed exile amidst the turmoil of the Second World War. Speaking at a recent press conference, the 49-year-old actor expressed immense pride in the show’s enduring legacy. “I feel really, really proud of the work. It’s nuts that it’s been so long. The end of 2012 is when we shot the original series,” he stated. “So many people have watched it, …
