Elon Musk’s X grilled over ‘appalling and offensive’ Grok posts on Hillsborough | Science, Climate & Tech News

X has been questioned by MPs over “the most appalling and offensive” AI posts about the Hillsborough disaster.  Over the weekend, Grok, X’s AI tool, was found to be falsely blaming Liverpool fans for the 1989 disaster, which led to the deaths of 97 fans, and using derogatory language about the city. A Sky News analysis also found highly offensive AI-generated posts containing profanities about Islam and Hinduism and disparaging the religions with racist vitriol. During a foreign affairs select committee hearing in Westminster on Monday, X’s head of global government affairs, Wifredo Fernández, was asked about the recent spate of posts. Image: Emily Thornberry MP. File pic: Reuters Emily Thornberry MP, chair of the committee, described them as “the most appalling and offensive messages to Hillsborough victims” and asked Mr Fernandez about action taken by X. “I understand there were some unacceptable responses,” he told MPs. “We actioned those posts with our policies and our engineering teams are investigating the issue to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” The UK government previously described them as …

Nashville opposes Elon Musk’s Loop tunnel — a decade later, still no proof it beats a subway

Nashville opposes Elon Musk’s Loop tunnel — a decade later, still no proof it beats a subway

Nashville’s Metro Council voted 20-15 to formally oppose the Boring Company’s Music City Loop, a proposed 13-mile underground tunnel system that would shuttle passengers in Tesla vehicles between downtown Nashville and the airport. The non-binding resolution signals growing resistance to a project that the state of Tennessee is pushing forward anyway, with bills in the legislature to strip Nashville of oversight authority over the tunnel. Nashville doesn’t want it, Tennessee is forcing it The Metro Council resolution, introduced by Councilmember Delishia Porterfield, cited the Boring Company’s “lack of transparency, inadequate community and Metropolitan Council engagement, and troubling labor and safety practices.” The vote was 20-15, with two abstentions. 🔥 “IT’S A TRAIN.” Since even Boring’s own estimates show the Elon tunnel will only handle a tiny fraction of NASHVILLE traffic, Joe Lee suggest tying some Tesla cars together and putting them on a track for a real solution 🚂 (The anti-tunnel resolution passed) pic.twitter.com/v7MXMpKWh6 — The Tennessee Holler (@TheTNHoller) March 4, 2026 The resolution can’t actually stop the project. Elon Musk’s Proposed Tesla Tunnel Loop Met With Opposition by Nashville Metro Council

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Elon Musk’s proposed Tesla tunnel loop under the streets of Nashville was met with opposition Tuesday by the metro council, which passed a resolution to put their concerns about safety, transparency and a lack of local input on the record. The resolution, with 20 members voting for and 15 against with two abstaining, can’t force one of Musk’s companies to stop, stall or change their plans for the Music City Loop. But Nashville officials want to register their grievances after the politically connected tech billionaire’s company, The Boring Company, teamed up with willing state government partners to bypass local authority. In July, Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and The Boring Company announced plans for the Music City Loop, featuring an initial 13-mile (21-kilometer) stretch that would include connecting the airport and downtown, which was later expanded to about 25 miles to include a second leg west of downtown. They promised a project that would come at no cost to taxpayers, albeit with free use of some state land near the Capitol. …

Residents Say Elon Musk’s AI Facility Is Like Living Next Door to Mordor

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Elon Musk’s new AI data center has turned a formerly quiet Mississippi town into a noisy nightmare. The $20 billion facility, run by Musk’s AI firm xAI, is powered by 27 methane gas turbines that run day and night, belching fumes and emitting a constant noise like jet engines, NBC News reports. The turbines were trucked in because Southaven, the unsuspecting rural community that Musk chose to build the data center in, can’t provide the electricity the facility needs.  And, of course, the rapid pace of the AI industry can’t stop to wait for more sustainable energy options to be built up — or to hear out the protests of locals who are alarmed at how the tranquility of their town was blown up practically overnight by an installation that feels like it was designed by Sauron himself. The noise drove resident Krystal Polk to move out of her home which her family owned during a time when many …

Government Insiders Concerned by Musk’s Erratic and Sycophantic Grok Being Deployed for Incredibly Sensitive Purposes

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech The Trump administration is scrambling to replace Claude, the chatbot embedded throughout the Pentagon’s entire scaffolding, with Elon Musk’s pet AI system, Grok. On paper, xAI’s Grok makes sense: the AI model is already used in select parts of the Department of Defense, not to mention other parts of the federal government. Musk should also be deeply familiar with the contours of the federal government, given that he spent the better half of 2025 gnawing the wires out of its walls. In practice, however, Grok also carries some deep flaws. It performs notably lower on AI benchmark tests than other leading models, and it’s garnered a rather infamous reputation for erratic, disgusting, and outrageous outbursts. It’s also decidedly not the choice of federal insiders, who told the Wall Street Journal there are significant concerns about the safety and efficacy of Grok. Per the WSJ, multiple officials said Grok is more susceptible to “data poisoning” than other AI systems, …

Musk’s AI power plant generates sound and fury in Mississippi

She acknowledged there may be some benefits from the xAI project, but she fears it’s already coming at her family’s expense. Two of her children developed respiratory problems since the plant went online, she said. The nonprofit Southern Environmental Law Center has said gas turbines produce pollution and release hazardous chemicals, including formaldehyde. Opponents of the Southaven turbines said their concerns have nothing to do with politics. Gossett, a former small-business owner, praised Musk’s success and the work Musk did as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, calling it “a service.” He said that after another 2 a.m. wakeup, though, he has had enough. “You need to come over and stay at my house for a week,” Gossett said, addressing Musk. Jason Haley, an IT worker, co-founded the Safe and Sound Coalition, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group pushing to shut off the turbines. Jason Haley, who can see xAI’s campus from his backyard, has questioned why greater noise controls for the turbines weren’t put in place from the start.Houston Cofield for NBC News …

UK connects first mobile network to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites | Science, Climate & Tech News

O2 has become the first mobile network in the UK to switch on user access to satellites, meaning that people living in rural areas with no signal may now be able to connect to mobile data. The new connection should bring coverage to an area around two-thirds of the size of Wales, according to O2. When traditional services like 4G aren’t available, customers on the network will now automatically connect to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites. Starlink is a network of satellites in low-earth orbit that are designed to offer an alternative to traditional data coverage. Image: Starlink satellites visible in the sky over Hungary. File pic: AP However, one consumer tech expert told Sky News that it would be “a while” before O2 customers felt the benefit of the new service. “Reliable signal is the lifeblood of any mobile network, yet our latest survey found that many customers experience inconsistent coverage with O2, awarding it just two stars out of five for connectivity,” said Lisa Barber, Which? tech editor. “Given this poor rating, improving network …

Meet Marc Toberoff, Elon Musk’s Hollywood-Loving Lawyer Facing Off Against Sam Altman

Meet Marc Toberoff, Elon Musk’s Hollywood-Loving Lawyer Facing Off Against Sam Altman

“He’s literally The Rockford Files. This guy, sitting out there in Malibu,” says Stuart Manashil, a talent manager and producer who’s worked with Toberoff on projects like an upcoming remake of 1988’s cult classic martial arts film Bloodsport, an adaptation of the book the 1987 psychological thriller Angel Heart was based on, and a TV series, Crystal Lake, based on the Friday the 13th movies. “He’s not in a trailer—but he’s in an office and it’s him and an assistant. And he’ll just keep going.” “When I originally started doing this with IP in Hollywood, it was like, ‘Toberoff, you’re a bottom-feeder.’ And I would say, ‘Yeah, I’ll see you down there,’ ” he says, adding that he has a full team working for him. Things changed as the streaming era took off and companies loaded up on well-known properties. His ability to untangle the rights for content, allowing it to be made, became a valuable currency. Producers and writers increasingly viewed Toberoff as a resource in a complicated legal landscape. When director Lee Daniels was …

Tesla fans think this reviewer will have to shave his hair due to Musk’s ,000 Cybercab claim

Tesla fans think this reviewer will have to shave his hair due to Musk’s $30,000 Cybercab claim

Elon Musk has reiterated his claim that Tesla will sell the Cybercab directly to consumers for under $30,000 before the end of the year, following the first production unit rolling off the line at Giga Texas on February 17. The announcement immediately set Tesla fans ablaze, not with discussions about the vehicle’s autonomy challenges, but with AI-generated images of YouTuber Marques Brownlee sporting a freshly shaved head. Calm down, everyone. You almost certainly won’t get to see MKBHD’s bare head. The bet For those who missed the origin story, tech reviewer MKBHD made a bold bet following Tesla’s “We, Robot” event in October 2024. After Musk unveiled the Cybercab as a $30,000 electric robotaxi, Brownlee was so skeptical of Tesla hitting the price and delivery timeline that he vowed to shave his head on camera if Tesla actually delivers a Cybercab to a consumer for $30,000 or less before 2027. Now that the first Cybercab has rolled off the production line, Tesla fans are flooding social media with memes of a bald MKBHD. Advertisement – …
