Triomics nabs $22M to bring oncology-specific AI to cancer centers

Triomics, a startup building an AI-powered platform to help oncologists and administrative staff automate data-heavy tasks like clinical trial matching and appointment prep, has raised $22 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Battery Ventures, with participation from returning backers Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed, Y Combinator, and others. The good news is that oncology breakthroughs are keeping patients alive longer.  That welcome trend, however, is creating dense, multi-year medical records that take healthcare staff a long time to review and decipher. A typical medical chart includes physician progress notes, imaging and pathology reports, and even scans of faxes. “We have seen medical records [with] thousands of pages of information,” Triomics co-founder Sarim Khan told TechCrunch. Founded in 2021, the startup raised a $15 million in Series A in mid-2024. Initially focused on helping doctors identify the most suitable clinical trials for their patients, Triomics expanded its platform as LLM capabilities grew. Over the last couple of years, Triomics added verifiable patient summaries to its platform, surfacing key information directly inside the tools …

SpaceX’s Starlink nabs American Airlines contract, another win for its IPO

SpaceX’s Starlink nabs American Airlines contract, another win for its IPO

American Airlines said Tuesday it plans to install Starlink on more than 500 narrow-body Airbus aircraft beginning early next year, the latest carrier to pick the SpaceX unit for inflight Wi-Fi service. The deal provides more than just financial lift for Starlink, the satellite communications network and the only SpaceX business unit that generates meaningful revenue. It also hands SpaceX a win over the competition — such as Amazon Leo and other legacy providers like Viasat. Starlink satellites use a low Earth orbit to provide broadband internet for consumers as well as enterprise customers like American Airlines. The company has pursued contracts with airlines and cruise operators with some success. United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa Group, British Airways, and Alaska Airlines (which merged with Hawaiian Airlines) have equipped some aircraft with Starlink, according to SpaceX’s IPO registration filing that was released last week. American Airlines is the latest, although not all of its aircraft will get the Starlink upgrade. The airline’s new Airbus A321XLR and A320neo aircraft will get Starlink; its Boeing aircraft are …

AWS nabs white hot gen AI media creation startup fal, becoming its preferred cloud provider

Generative AI’s rapid transition from text-based chatbots to high-fidelity media—spanning images, video, spatial 3D, and audio—has exposed a glaring bottleneck in the modern tech stack: infrastructure. Rendering pixels in real-time requires a staggering amount of compute, and developers are increasingly struggling to manage fragmented GPU clusters just to keep their applications online. Enter fal, a generative media creation platform that has quietly become the connective tissue for 2.5 million developers across the globe, offering literally hundreds of leading AI image, video, and audio creation and editing models — from proprietary ones like OpenAI’s ChatGPT-Images-2.0 and Google’s Nano Banana Pro 2 to open source rivals — all through its unified interface and APIs. Today, the San Francisco-based startup, recently valued at a massive $4.5 billion following a $300 million Series D round led by Sequoia Capital, announced it has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider. While the financial terms of the deal weren’t made public, the move signals a maturation in the generative media space, shifting the focus from simply building foundational …

ICE Nabs Illegal Alien Pedophile In Virginia; Sanctuary Officials Ignored Detainer

Authored by Steve Watson via Modernity.news, ICE has arrested an illegal alien child sex predator in Abigail Spanberger’s Virginia. Authorities there tried to protect him by declining an ICE detainer last year and releasing him back into the community. Of course they did. The suspect, Roni Mendez-Escobar, a Guatemalan national, faced charges including multiple felony counts of possession of obscene material and child pornography with intent to distribute. 🚨 HOLY CRAP! ICE has just arrested an illegal alien CHILD S*X PREDATOR in Abigail Spanberger’s Virginia She tried to PROTECT him. She ran as a “moderate.” In practice, she’s letting kids get abused by illegals! This isn’t an isolated failure. It’s the predictable result of Virginia Democrats turning the state into a magnet for criminal illegal aliens while American families bear the cost. …

Minions & Monsters Nabs John Powell as Composer

Minions & Monsters Nabs John Powell as Composer

John Powell, the two-time Academy Award nominee for his work on How to Train Your Dragon and Wicked, is set to score Illumination’s Minions & Monsters.  The move reunites the music meister with Illumination, for whom he composed the score to 2023’s Migration and 2012’s The Lorax. Coming out of the Despicable Me movies, which is the biggest global animated franchise in history, Minions & Monsters in the third spin-off that focuses on the  excitable small, yellow little creatures that seem to only exist to serve an evil master. This one is being billed as “rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story” of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created. It is also being described as a love letter to classic Hollywood, which will allow Powell to let loose a variety of styles. But he better get a move on as the movie opens July 1. Minions & Monsters is directed by Academy …

InScope nabs .5M to solve the pain of financial reporting

InScope nabs $14.5M to solve the pain of financial reporting

Even without a background in accounting, anyone who has ever glanced at a 10-K or 10-Q can tell that preparing financial statements is a complex, tedious process. While legacy platforms like Workiva and Donnelley Financial Solutions aim to streamline financial reporting, longtime accountants Mary Antony (pictured right) and Kelsey Gootnick (pictured center) found themselves exhausted by various manual hurdles within these tools (co-founder and CTO Jared Tibshraeny is pictured left). The duo met seven years ago at Flexport, where Gootnick served as the company’s controller and Antony served as assistant controller. They stayed in touch even after Antony moved to Miro and Gootnick to Hopin and later Thrive Global. No matter where they worked, Antony and Gootnick kept running into the same manual challenges. “The way financial statements come together, it’s just patched together in a lot of spreadsheets, moved into a bunch of Word documents, emailed back and forth between people,” Antony told TechCrunch.   So, in 2023, the pair decided to launch InScope, an AI-powered financial reporting platform that helps companies and accounting …

Daniel Munoz/AFP via Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Daniel Munoz/AFP via Getty Images MILAN — 21-year-old American speedskater Jordan Stolz won his third medal at the Milan Cortina Olympic Games Thursday. Stolz came in second, getting a silver medal in the 1500m — his hopes of winning four gold medals at these Winter Games foiled by a highly competitive field. Stolz was OK with it. “Two gold medals in itself is already a huge accomplishment and silver is not bad,” he says, “The pressure with expecting four gold medals — that’s not something I was thinking about too much. I was just focusing on my race and what I can control.” The time it took him to skate 3.75 laps around the track — 1:42.75 — would have broken the previous Olympic record, had the record not already been broken twice in the event. Chinese skater Zhongyan Ning skated a few pairs ahead of …
