Minions & Monsters Nabs John Powell as Composer

John Powell, the two-time Academy Award nominee for his work on How to Train Your Dragon and Wicked, is set to score Illumination’s Minions & Monsters.  The move reunites the music meister with Illumination, for whom he composed the score to 2023’s Migration and 2012’s The Lorax. Coming out of the Despicable Me movies, which is the biggest global animated franchise in history, Minions & Monsters in the third spin-off that focuses on the  excitable small, yellow little creatures that seem to only exist to serve an evil master. This one is being billed as “rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story” of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created. It is also being described as a love letter to classic Hollywood, which will allow Powell to let loose a variety of styles. But he better get a move on as the movie opens July 1. InScope nabs .5M to solve the pain of financial reporting

InScope nabs $14.5M to solve the pain of financial reporting

Even without a background in accounting, anyone who has ever glanced at a 10-K or 10-Q can tell that preparing financial statements is a complex, tedious process. While legacy platforms like Workiva and Donnelley Financial Solutions aim to streamline financial reporting, longtime accountants Mary Antony (pictured right) and Kelsey Gootnick (pictured center) found themselves exhausted by various manual hurdles within these tools (co-founder and CTO Jared Tibshraeny is pictured left). The duo met seven years ago at Flexport, where Gootnick served as the company’s controller and Antony served as assistant controller. They stayed in touch even after Antony moved to Miro and Gootnick to Hopin and later Thrive Global. No matter where they worked, Antony and Gootnick kept running into the same manual challenges. “The way financial statements come together, it’s just patched together in a lot of spreadsheets, moved into a bunch of Word documents, emailed back and forth between people,” Antony told TechCrunch.   So, in 2023, the pair decided to launch InScope, an AI-powered financial reporting platform that helps companies and accounting …

Stolz came in second, getting a silver medal in the 1500m — his hopes of winning four gold medals at these Winter Games foiled by a highly competitive field. Stolz was OK with it. “Two gold medals in itself is already a huge accomplishment and silver is not bad,” he says, “The pressure with expecting four gold medals — that’s not something I was thinking about too much. I was just focusing on my race and what I can control.” The time it took him to skate 3.75 laps around the track — 1:42.75 — would have broken the previous Olympic record, had the record not already been broken twice in the event. Chinese skater Zhongyan Ning skated a few pairs ahead of …

Bolna nabs .3M from General Catalyst for its India-focused voice orchestration platform

Bolna nabs $6.3M from General Catalyst for its India-focused voice orchestration platform

Industry reports and the growth of voice model companies in the Indian market suggest that there is a growing demand for voice AI solutions in the country. Voice is a popular medium for communication among people and businesses in India. That’s why enterprises and startups are eager to use voice AI to be more efficient at customer support, sales, customer acquisition, hiring, and training. But recognizing market demand is one thing — proving businesses will pay is another. Y Combinator rejected the application from Bolna, a voice orchestration startup built by Maitreya Wagh and Prateek Sachan, five times before finally accepting it into the fall 2025 batch, skeptical that the founders could turn interest into revenue. “When we were applying for Y Combinator, the feedback we got was, ‘great to see that you have a product that can create realistic voice agents, but Indian enterprises are not going to pay, and you are not going to make money out of this,’” Wagh told TechCrunch. The startup applied with the same idea for the fall batch …

KPop Demon Hunters Nabs 2 Wins at 2026 Golden Globes

KPop Demon Hunters had a “Golden” night at Sunday’s Globes, taking home two awards. The Netflix-Sony Pictures Animation surprise hit scored the win for best animated feature and best original song for “Golden.” Songwriter and singing voice of Rumi, one of three members of the movie’s fictional, demon-fighting K-pop group, got emotional accepting the award for best original song. Sunday’s award wins mirror exactly that of the first award show of 2026, the Critics Choice Awards. “I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fill one dream to become a K-pop idol and was rejected. [I] disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it,” she said through tears, referencing the 10 years she spent training at one of the biggest labels in Korea, SM Entertainment. “Now I’m here, as a singer and a songwriter,” she continued met with cheers from the audience. “Rejecting is redirection, so never give up. It’s never too late to shine like you were born to be.” KPop Demon Hunters has become …
