Texas Tech’s Appeal to NCAA for Sorsby Reinstatement Denied, According to AP Source

Texas Tech’s appeal to the NCAA to have Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility reinstated has been denied, in a ruling that is separate from the transfer quarterback’s lawsuit against that same governing body. A person with knowledge of the NCAA’s decision told The Associated Press on Friday night that the NCAA for the second time denied Texas Tech’s petition to restore the quarterback’s eligibility. He was ruled ineligible after he acknowledged gambling on sports, including on his own team while at Indiana. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to the AP because there was no announcement about the appeal decision from either the NCAA or the quarterback’s current school. That came while the NCAA and Sorsby were still waiting for a ruling from a Texas judge after the quarterback filed a lawsuit May 18 seeking a temporary injunction against the NCAA in hopes of playing this season for the Red Raiders after transferring from Cincinnati. A two-hour hearing was held Monday in the 99th District Court in Lubbock County, where Texas Tech is located. As of …

DraftKings fights NCAA trademark lawsuit over March Madness betting promotions claims

DraftKings fights NCAA trademark lawsuit over March Madness betting promotions claims

DraftKings is pushing back hard against the NCAA’s trademark lawsuit, telling a federal court the sports betting company legally used phrases connected to the men’s basketball tournament and did nothing that would confuse customers about any relationship with the college sports organization. In a response filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and seen by ReadWrite, the sportsbook operator denied allegations that its promotions and betting products improperly traded on NCAA branding. The company said the NCAA “has no valid claim against it” and argued the association is not entitled to damages or other relief. Former Abilene Christian basketball player permanently banned after NCAA manipulation findings

Former Abilene Christian basketball player permanently banned after NCAA manipulation findings

The NCAA says former Abilene Christian basketball player Airion Simmons broke the association’s gambling rules after investigators determined he shared confidential team information with bettors and agreed to influence his play during a 2024 game against Tarleton State. The ruling, released Friday (May 15) by the Division I Committee on Infractions, centered on a March 20, 2024, matchup between Abilene Christian University and Tarleton State University. NCAA officials said Simmons accepted $3,500 after agreeing to “play[ing] bad” during the game as part of a betting scheme tied to outside gamblers. Former Abilene Christian men’s basketball student-athlete violated sports betting integrity rules:https://t.co/C73syI1XiM — NCAA News (@NCAA_PR) May 15, 2026 According to the negotiated resolution, the case surfaced after another former Abilene Christian player disclosed details while attending a Division II school in September 2025. The player told coaches and NCAA officials that Simmons and another teammate discussed “a way to get paid to lose the game” while they were playing video games before the Tarleton State matchup. Investigators were also told about a FaceTime call involving …

Trinidad Chambliss Is Making Millions Playing College Football. The NCAA Wants to Stop Him.

The story of Trinidad Chambliss has the hallmarks of sports cinema: the unassuming hero coming from an inauspicious beginning in search of a chance. Chambliss played his senior year of high school six years ago, in the fall of 2020. In peak-pandemic times, even something as simple as working out was a challenge, so his coaches at Forest Hills Northern High School personally delivered weights to players’ homes. Lockdown also made exposure hard to come by for players like Chambliss. “Because of COVID, it really, really knocked everybody in his class,” says Cheryl Chambliss, Trinidad’s mother, referring to the athletes who graduated high school in those years. “Especially him, for a loop, because the recruiting was little to nothing.” Chambliss was a talented multisport athlete but undersized even by Division II standards. “He was always chasing weight, and chasing weight is not easy,” says his dad, Trent, who basically trained Trinidad from birth. (His name, by the way, has nothing to do with the country—his mother has told reporters she would have named a girl …

NCAA seeks faster trial over DraftKings disputed March Madness branding case

The NCAA is asking a federal judge in Indiana to speed up its trademark fight with DraftKings, saying the normal court calendar could let the sportsbook ride another March Madness wave before the dispute is decided. In a filing reviewed by ReadWrite and dated Wednesday (April 15) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the association asked to move an initial pretrial conference forward and set a compressed schedule that could send the case to trial in February 2027. The group says timing matters because the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments create a short, valuable burst of attention every spring. In its motion, the NCAA said, “DraftKings’s challenged conduct is closely tied to the annual rhythm of the marquee collegiate sporting events, during which consumer engagement is at its peak and the value of the NCAA Basketball Marks is at its highest.” It then warned the court that “Absent an accelerated timeline, DraftKings is likely to continue to exploit that cycle, causing ongoing harm to the NCAA.” NCAA March Madness court …

2026 NCAA Basketball Finals TV Ratings Rise

2026 NCAA Basketball Finals TV Ratings Rise

A pair of powerhouse matchups in the NCAA basketball championships resulted in big audiences for the men’s and women’s finals. Both games showed year-to-year ratings gains — which is particularly notable for the men’s side, as Monday’s final aired on TNT Sports rather than CBS; the broadcast network’s years with the title game typically bring in larger audiences. Michigan’s 69-63 win over Connecticut Monday night averaged 18.3 million viewers on TBS, TNT and TruTV, up a little from the 18.1 million who watched the 2025 title game on CBS (with the caveat that Nielsen has added a big data component to its ratings measurement this season). Monday’s telecast improved by about 23 percent over the last time TNT Sports carried the championship in 2024 and was the most watched men’s title game since 2019. The women’s championship game Sunday afternoon on ABC and ESPN, meanwhile, delivered 9.88 million viewers who watched UCLA thump South Carolina, 79-51. The game grew about 16 percent from 8.5 million viewers last year and finished as the third most-watched women’s …

Michigan celebrates after defeating UConn in the NCAA college basketball tournament national championship game at the Final Four, Monday, April 6, 2026, in Indianapolis. Michael Conroy/AP hide caption toggle caption Michael Conroy/AP INDIANAPOLIS — High-scoring Michigan had to get down and dirty to dig out the national title Monday, making only two 3-pointers all night but still muscling its way to a 69-63 victory over stingy, stubborn UConn. Elliot Cadeau led the Wolverines with 19 points, including the team’s first 3, which came 7:04 into the second half. The second, from freshman Trey McKenney, came with 1:50 left and felt like a dagger, giving the coach Dusty May’s team full of transfers a nine-point lead. To no one’s surprise, UConn fought to the finish. Solo Ball banked in a 3 to cut it to four with 37 seconds left — and after two missed free throws, UConn’s Alex Karaban (17 points) barely grazed the rim on a 3 that would’ve cut the deficit to one with 17 seconds left. Michigan also got outrebounded 22-12 on …

Coming to UCLA we all set out for a goal, and I imagined this moment,” Jaquez said. “I imagined it so many times, and I am just so, so proud. … Crying a lot, the confetti, all of the fans being here to support us, my family being here, it just means everything. Bruising Bruins dominate South Carolina, win an NCAA national title

It was dominating. It was overwhelming. It was powder-blue pummeling, eight-clap crushing, Westwood wonderful. Break out a new banner. Make room in the Pauley rafters. A new collection of heroes is coming home, and they started the party early. For the first time since 1978, and the first time in the NCAA era, the UCLA women are national basketball champions after a 79-51 finals blowout victory Sunday over favored powerhouse South Carolina. “Oh my gosh,” said weeping star Lauren Betts after the final buzzer.
