Neil Woodford facing City watchdog injunction | Money News

Neil Woodford facing City watchdog injunction | Money News

The City regulator is seeking an injunction against the former star fund manager Neil Woodford, claiming he is breaking the terms of a ban related to the collapse of his flagship fund in 2019. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said on Monday it had started civil proceedings against Mr Woodford and UAE-registered W4.0 – a subscription-based platform. “The FCA alleges that Mr Woodford and W4.0 are providing regulated investment advice and making financial promotions through the… platform… without authorisation,” the watchdog said. Money latest: New savings account likely to turn heads – but there’s a catch Mr Woodford founded W4.0 as an “investment strategy” community, according to his profile on LinkedIn. He has been approached for comment on the FCA’s claim, which is understood to relate to interaction with UK consumers. The W4.0 website says in relation to its work: “We exist to explain active investment strategies – with full transparency – so you can see what’s inside, why it’s there, and the thinking behind it. “We are not regulated by the FCA or any …

William Shatner, Neil deGrasse Tyson on Physics, Space, New Album

William Shatner, Neil deGrasse Tyson on Physics, Space, New Album

William Shatner and Neil deGrasse Tyson regaled an enthusiastic crowd with stories of everything from our understanding quantum physics to Shatner‘s space flight to the meaning of the universe on Wednesday night during a conversation dubbed “The Universe Is Absurd!” at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. The event was actually the second of a two-night event wherein the close friends ribbed each other and shared personal anecdotes of their adventures together, including their 2024 trip to Antarctica, where they first met. The audience may have even learned a few things about astrophysics along the way. (“The electron is so small, we do not know how small it is,” Tyson shared. “Every measurement of the electron is smaller than our attempts to measure it. As far as we’re concerned, it’s infinitesimally small.”) The topic of Shatner’s age (95 years) came up quite often. At one point, he mentioned his forthcoming heavy metal album (yes, you read that right), out in October. (“Why does everyone approach me with a smile when they hear ‘heavy metal album’?” …

There’s a Season 3 of Good Omens, Even After All of the Neil Gaiman Accusations

There’s a Season 3 of Good Omens, Even After All of the Neil Gaiman Accusations

Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. The One Episode of Season 3 of Good Omens Is Here, and I Want to Know Why I mean, I know why. It’s because of money, but I still want to know why. I say that as someone who literally watched the first season of Good Omens once a year since its 2019 release, up until the second season came out. Just to catch you up, season three of the popular show has been released as a single, 90-minute episode as a compromising response to Neil Gaiman being accused of sexual misconduct by several women. On the one hand, I understand there had already been a lot of work put into the third season by the cast and crew by the time the allegations came out. On the other hand, Gaiman has been a part of each season’s screenwriting, including the third season, even though he and his production company are no longer involved with …

Neil Gorsuch’s right-wing book tour blows up in his face

Neil Gorsuch’s right-wing book tour blows up in his face

Neil Gorsuch is on a book tour, and his itinerary reads less like a publicity schedule than a pilgrimage route through the modern right-wing media ecosystem. The conservative Supreme Court justice’s rollout for his new children’s book, “Heroes of 1776: The Story of the Declaration,” includes “Fox & Friends,” Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, Megyn Kelly’s podcast, National Review and stops at the presidential libraries of Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon and George W. Bush.  But Gorsuch’s interviews have not been confined to “the stories of ordinary people willing to do extraordinary things,” as the book jacket reads. Throughout the tour, he has repeatedly insisted the Supreme Court is not a partisan institution. So there is something almost darkly ironic about watching Gorsuch embark on one of the friendliest media tours imaginable — one carefully routed through the movement that elevated him and celebrated his confirmation to the Supreme Court as one of the signal achievements of the modern conservative project — only to discover that even this is no longer enough for today’s right. Although Gorsuch’s …

Neil deGrasse Tyson: ‘I expect the alien files will be anticlimactic’

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson predicted that government files on UFOs and unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) “will be anticlimactic.” “The impending release of U.S. government files on aliens and U.F.O.s is a good thing, even if it feels like a distraction from other important files we’ve all been waiting to be disclosed. I expect the alien… Source link

Neil Patrick Harris’ teen twins step into spotlight with striking rare appearance on red carpet

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka stepped out in coordinated outfits with their 15-year-old twins, Harper and Gideon, for the premiere of The Lost Boys on Broadway on April 26. The family infused their red carpet sartorial agendas with a matching black-and-red twist. Neil donned a burgundy blazer that was layered over a black graphic T-shirt and styled with simple black pants. Meanwhile, David wore a black shirt with a bold red tie for a pop of color. The couples’ kids looked so grown up as they posed alongside their famous parents. Harper opted for a red minidress that was layered with a black fishnet top and black fur jacket. The ensemble was styled with lace stockings, a silver-studded leather belt, and knee-high black boots. Her blonde locks were left down in soft waves and she carried a matching red handbag. Gideon rocked a black-and-red checkered shirt with a sleek black blazer and matching tailored pants.

Neil Robertson calls for ban on Ronnie O’Sullivan’s chalk: ‘All the players hate it’

Neil Robertson calls for ban on Ronnie O’Sullivan’s chalk: ‘All the players hate it’

Neil Robertson has called for a ban on the chalk used by Ronnie O’Sullivan during the World Snooker Championship, claiming that “all the players hate it” and suggesting it causes problems on the baize. O’Sullivan’s hopes of a record eighth world title at the Crucible were ended by old rival John Higgins in a 13-12 thriller on Tuesday, with Robertson beating Chris Wakelin in the evening session to set up a meeting with the Scot. Higgins suffered a notable kick in the deciding frame while potting a red, and subsequently ran out of on the next black, though held on to knock out O’Sullivan. Chalk marks were also evident during the match on the table. O’Sullivan is one of only a handful of players on the World Snooker Tour (WST) to still use the traditional Triangle Chalk. While almost all players use Taom Chalk, which reduces kicks and leaves no marks on the table, there are no restrictions in events on the type used. Robertson, though, admitted he was glad to avoid a meeting with …
