Amazon and Nvidia just got a lot closer. The two companies announced Wednesday an expanded partnership that includes a deal to add another 2 million Nvidia GPU chips to Amazon’s data centers. These GPUs, which are designed to handle the heavy compute demands of training and running AI models, include Nvidia Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra GPUs. The chips will head to Amazon Web Services’ data centers in 2027 and 2028.  The announcement, made during Nvidia’s quarterly earnings call, comes just five months after Amazon agreed to deploy more than 1 million Nvidia GPUs across AWS infrastructure starting this year. Nvidia said in a statement that since then, “demand has exceeded those expectations.” Neither company shared financial terms. It’s unclear what the exact return will be for Nvidia. But considering GPU unit costs, the deal is worth tens of billions of dollars. The announcement is notable not just for its size and the speed in which it grew, but also because it extends beyond Amazon buying more Nvidia chips. And it’s happening even as Amazon …

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court handed an initial win to the Trump administration Monday in its effort to implement an executive order aimed at limiting who can receive mail-in ballots ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. At issue are provisions that seek to create a federal list of eligible voters and order the U.S. Postal Service to deliver ballots only to those people. The justices, divided 6-3 along ideological lines with conservatives in the majority, lifted an injunction a Massachusetts-based judge imposed in June that prevented key aspects of the executive order from going into effect this year in California and 22 other states that had challenged it. The court also granted a similar application filed by Alabama and 11 other states. The White House praised the court’s ruling, calling the executive order’s provisions “commonsense measures.” “This Administration will continue to lawfully enact the agenda President Trump was elected on — which includes the safety and security of our elections,” White House spokesperson Lauren Bis said in a statement. But with the start of voting for this fall’s midterm elections just weeks away, legal and practical challenges loom over whether the U.S. Postal Service and other federal agencies can finish carrying out Trump’s directives. The conservative-led high court on Monday paused a lower court’s ruling that had blocked key parts of an executive order that Trump issued back in March. The lower court’s ruling applied to 23 mainly Democratic-led states, plus Washington, D.C., that sued the administration. The Supreme Court’s decision did not weigh in on the legality of Trump’s executive order, which has so far not directly affected eligible absentee voters’ option to cast ballots by mail. (RNS) — Faith groups suing President Donald Trump’s administration filed a motion Thursday (Aug. 20) alleging the Department of Homeland Security committed “multiple egregious violations” of a court order that barred warrantless surveillance at their churches. The motion, filed on behalf of the 11 religious plaintiffs, also asked the court to issue an order showing why DHS shouldn’t be held in contempt. “Given the blatant and repeated nature of Defendants’ violations, the harm to fundamental rights of religion and expressive association, and the threat of future similar violations, Plaintiffs also respectfully request the Court’s expedited consideration of this motion,” the filing reads. The religious plaintiffs — which include denominations such as American Baptist Churches USA and several regional bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — sued the administration last July challenging the government’s decision to rescind the “sensitive locations” policy that had previously discouraged immigration raids at locations such schools, hospitals and churches.
