MOCA Gala 2026 honors Kara Walker and Paul McCarthy

Artist Piero Golia was the creative director of this year’s MOCA gala, which honored artists Kara Walker and Paul McCarthy, pictured here with Golia, along with MOCA trustee Eugenio López Alonso. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles hosted its annual gala over the weekend, bringing art world and Hollywood royalty to Little Tokyo — from Barbara Kruger and Charles Gaines to Ava DuVernay and Keanu Reeves. It was the second year that the gala took on the “Moca Legends” format, which recognizes figures who “cement the museum as a global leader in contemporary art,” per MOCA. This year’s event honored artists Kara Walker and Paul McCarthy, along with MOCA trustee Eugenio López Alonso. When entering the galleries for cocktail hour on Saturday, guests essentially walked into a small but immersive slice of these artists’ worlds. An installation conceived by the evening’s creative director, artist Piero Golia, celebrated Walker’s seminal “Monuments” commission and McCarthy’s famous “White Snow.” Trees from the “White Snow” project were lit up moodily throughout the space. Ron Paul: The Federal Reserve Is Why The People Are Unhappy

Ron Paul: The Federal Reserve Is Why The People Are Unhappy

Authored by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity, According to the University of Michigan’s latest Index of Consumer Sentiment, a record number of Americans have negative views of the economy. This is yet more evidence that the American people are dissatisfied with their economic condition. Some commentators have claimed to be perplexed by the people’s negative views of the economy since government statistics show that most Americans have good jobs that pay them good salaries. One problem with this defense of the economy is that government statistics are manipulated to understate the true rates of inflation and unemployment. Trip Powers, writing on Substack, looks at the situation using a more accurate definition of unemployment than what is used by the government. By, for example, including those who have given up looking for work and those working part-time because they cannot find a full-time job, the unemployment rate is over ten percent. An unemployment rate that high indicates a significant economic downturn. The main reason why even many Americans with above …

The 83-year-old musician joined host and creator Amelia Dimoldenberg for the “first date” format, which sees celebrities interviewed over fast food. Their conversation, held over vegan chicken nuggets and chips at Camden’s Temple of Seitan, touched on subjects including dentists, tattoos, and favourite dance moves. At one point, Dimoldenberg asked Sir Paul to name his favourite Beatle. Sir Paul replied: “Well, there’s only one left now. Currently, it’s Ringo. “During the Beatles, I think we all used to look up to John, because he was like the leader, even though there wasn’t officially a leader of the group. “He was very witty and it was great to have in …

Doctor Who TV movie director on potential Paul McGann spin-off

Doctor Who TV movie director on potential Paul McGann spin-off

Doctor Who TV movie director Geoffrey Sax has said he would be open to returning to the franchise for a potential Paul McGann spin-off series. McGann made his debut as the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 TV movie, which was originally intended as a potential pilot for a new series. While that full TV revival did not materialise at the time, McGann’s Doctor has retained a devoted following over the past 30 years, with fans continuing to call for the actor to be given his own full-fledged spin-off or miniseries. Interest in McGann’s Doctor was only heightened by his surprise return in 2013 minisode The Night of the Doctor, which finally showed the Eighth Doctor’s regeneration and helped cement the incarnation’s place in modern Doctor Who mythology. Asked whether he would be open to being involved in any future McGann-led project, Sax told Radio Times: “I would absolutely be open to being involved.” He added: “I’d love to. I’d love to work again with Paul. I think now, 30 years on, especially with this renewed …

‘Chicken Shop Date’ with Paul McCartney makes beautiful music

Chicken Shop Date has seen host Amelia Dimoldenberg flirting with some serious names over the last 10 years, from Billie Eilish to Keke Palmer, SZA to Cher. Her latest illustrious guest? Sir Paul McCartney. Having recently closed out The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the music legend and Beatle is hitting the press circuit to promote his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. On Friday, he headed for the titular chicken shop, where Dimoldenberg asked him the tough questions. Notably, McCartney’s in the same seat where Dimoldenberg previously interviewed Paul Mescal, who’s playing the Beatle in Sam Mendes’ upcoming biopic. McCartney’s no stranger to buzzy British web series and podcasts, appearing on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners, Marina Hyde and Richard Osman’s The Rest Is Entertainment, and Tom Holland’s The Rest Is History. ‘I can gauge John’s reaction: that’s good, stick that in’: Paul McCartney on how old bandmates – and Oasis – inspired his nostalgic new album | Paul McCartney

‘How far do you want to go back?” In his office overlooking Soho Square in London, Paul McCartney and I sit together on a small sofa, reminiscing. The room smells deep and resinous and faintly ecclesiastical. There is a large green glass candle on the windowsill, and beyond, a view of plane trees, a flood of early afternoon sunlight. The building was bought by McCartney in 1974, and has long served as a home for his publishing company and other enterprises. On another floor, two members of his team survey prints of his late wife Linda’s photographs, spread out on the boardroom table. An assistant is busy arranging a bagel order, while in the small lift, someone is ferrying a trolley full of drinking glasses up to the kitchen, a convivial clink-clatter echoing through the floors. McCartney and I are discussing the earliest sounds he can remember, what Seamus Heaney once called “linguistic hardcore”; that is, the sounds that unconsciously bed the ear, providing a kind of aural foundation. The Boys of Dungeon Lane, McCartney’s …

Doctor Who TV movie director recalls Paul McGann’s series hopes

Doctor Who TV movie director Geoffrey Sax has reflected on hopes that the 1996 film could have launched a full Eighth Doctor series, revealing that Paul McGann was even viewing potential homes in Vancouver. The feature-length special, which starred McGann as the Doctor, first aired in the UK on 27 May 1996 and was a co-production between the BBC, Universal and Fox, with hopes that it could relaunch Doctor Who for a new era. However, Sax has now recalled that while there was excitement around the project potentially continuing, he does not remember much discussion about a follow-up series taking place on set. “I don’t remember a single discussion about it,” he told Radio Times. “We were there to do the film, and that was it. “When I got the call, I think they’d only just got the green light, and they wanted to go into production pretty well straight away.” Sax explained that by the time he arrived in Vancouver, much of the production was already underway. “By the time I flew out there, …

In rusted collars and empty chairs, I still live with my beloved ghosts | Paul Daley

Sometimes it seems like my world is inhabited by ghosts, such are the remnants and reminders of past lives all around me. The dead dogs are everywhere. On a coatrack on the hallway wall just near the front door outside my study hang their sun-bleached and harbour-rusted collars and leads, memorial stalactites to much-loved animals who’ve never really left us. Their tags are clipped on the fridge and one is screwed into the tree in the back yard under which its wearer is buried. The name tag of Nari, Paul Daley’s dog, screwed into a tree. Photograph: Paul Daley The ashes of the last to die sit in their urn on the mantlepiece to my right. We haven’t quite come around – or been able – to scatter her yet. Too soon! Photographs of them as shiny pups are on the fridge. Line drawings (kindly sent by a professional artist acquaintance when he read of my grief at losing the last one, Ronda) and watercolours, one by an artist daughter, the other by a talented …
