Emmerdale confirms whether Moira and Kim’s big change is permanent

Emmerdale star Natalie J Robb has spoken about the recent scenes where her character Moira Dingle and Kim Tate actually came to a mutual agreement, and has opened up about whether the mutual respect will last. There has been rivalry between the two for years, but when Moira was in prison recently, she called Kim to make a deal to sell Butler’s Farm. The scenes showed a mutual respect between the two, with Kim impressed by Moira’s dedication to the farming life. Could that carry on now that Moira is out of the slammer? ITV Related: Best streaming services UK 2026 – including Disney+, Netflix, iPlayer and Apple TV Robb thinks that it could last, but she hopes it never turns into them actually becoming mates. “It’s nice that they don’t get on but they have that mutual respect for each other”, she said. “You really see how Kim knows what that farm meant to Moira. And for her to sell the farm because she thought it was best for Cain, it really opens Kim’s …

Nvidia CEO Says AI Will Be a Permanent Micromanaging Boss Who Never Stops Nagging You

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech As fear over an AI-driven jobs apocalypse continues to simmer, some tech leaders remain adamant that the wide proliferation of AI will lead to more employment opportunities, not fewer. Consider a recent panel at Stanford University, when Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang painted an unusual picture of an AI agent-dominated future. Instead of getting ready to clear their desks, the centibillionaire argued that instead, human workers’ productivity will instead go through the roof — with the minor tradeoff that you’ll be overseen by a nagging AI boss that won’t ever leave you alone. “Your [AI] agents are harassing you, micromanaging you, and you’re busier than ever,” Huang said. “And yet our company is able to do more.” As a result, “we’re gonna create more jobs in the end,” he argued. “There’ll be more people working at the end of this industrial revolution than at the beginning of it.” Huang has previously argued that company leaders are thinking too small …

Lebanon President Says Ceasefire Should Move to Permanent Agreements

BEIRUT, April 17 (Reuters) – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that a ceasefire agreed to by his country should be transformed into “permanent agreements,” without saying whether he was referring to a prospective peace deal with Israel. The televised address was his first speech since the U.S. brokered a ‌ceasefire to end six weeks of ‌fighting between Israel and Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah on Thursday. The text of the deal says Israel and Lebanon would hold direct talks to produce “peace between the two countries.” Aoun thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and regional countries for helping secure the ceasefire. “Now, we all stand before a new phase: the transition from working towards a ceasefire to working towards permanent agreements that preserve the rights of our people, the unity of our land, and the sovereignty of our nation,” he said. Hezbollah has said it opposes direct talks with Israel and its lawmakers on Friday criticised the government for agreeing to hold such negotiations.   Without mentioning Israel, Aoun said, “These negotiations are not a sign of …

Macron and Starmer Welcome Hormuz Reopening and Push for Permanent Navigation Security

Macron and Starmer Welcome Hormuz Reopening and Push for Permanent Navigation Security

PARIS (AP) — The leaders of France and the U.K. on Friday welcomed the announcement by Iran and the U.S. that the Strait of Hormuz is open, but said freedom of navigation must be permanently restored to the key oil route choked by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Keir Starmer said they would keep planning an international mission to restore maritime security, which Starmer said will be deployed “as soon as conditions allow.” They said military planners will meet in London next week. Speaking after a gathering of some 50 countries, Macron said “we all demand the full, immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by all parties.” Starmer said the announcement by Iran and the U.S. that the waterway is open must become “both lasting and a workable proposal.” The Paris meeting is part of attempts by sidelined nations to ease the impact of a conflict they didn’t start and haven’t joined, but that has sent the global economy reeling. Petroleum prices soared after the war …

Politics Home | Keir Starmer Sacks Foreign Office Permanent Secretary Over Mandelson Vetting Row

2 min read49 min The most senior civil servant in the Foreign Office is leaving his role over the Lord Mandelson vetting row. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper have lost confidence in Olly Robbins, who will be standing down as the department’s permanent secretary as a result, PoliticsHome understands. His departure comes after The Guardian reported on Thursday that Mandelson was appointed the UK ambassador to the US in 2024 despite failing his security vetting. No 10 later released a statement saying that the Foreign Office was responsible for the vetting process and went ahead with appointing Mandelson to the job in Washington despite the failure, without telling the Prime Minister or any other minister. Downing Street added that Starmer had been first made aware earlier this week. The Prime Minister is expected to make a statement to the House of Commons on Monday to correct previous statements he has made about the process by which Mandelson was appointed. He is expected to tell MPs that he did not unknowingly mislead Parliament when …

Prince Edward becomes first Royal to visit Andrew in exile to have ‘quiet word’ about brother moving into permanent home

Prince Edward becomes first Royal to visit Andrew in exile to have ‘quiet word’ about brother moving into permanent home

Prince Edward is the first member of the royal family to visit his disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor at his temporary home on the Sandringham estate. The Duke of Edinburgh, 62, is said to have had a “quiet word” with his brother about finally moving to the five-bedroom Marsh Farm house on the royal estate in Norfolk. The former prince is said to be “dragging his heels” about moving into the property, which required weeks of renovations following his sudden move in January. Instead, Andrew, 66, is currently holed up in the nearby Wood Farm, where Edward typically stays during the Easter celebrations. Edward is currently being accommodated in the main house at Sandringham while waiting for his brother to leave with a deadline set for this weekend, The Sun reports. A source told the newspaper: “Prince Edward was the first and only member of the Royal Family to visit. Andrew has been ignored by everyone since he left Royal Lodge, including his daughters and ex-wife who have stayed away. “Edward has already publicly made his …

Laser power stations could keep lunar missions running in permanent darkness

Laser power stations could keep lunar missions running in permanent darkness

Cold, dark crater floors near the Moon’s south pole may hold one of space exploration’s most useful prizes: water ice. Yet those same places sit in permanent darkness, with temperatures dropping below minus 230 degrees Celsius, which makes ordinary solar power a poor fit for missions that want to work there for long stretches. That mismatch has turned lunar power into a problem of geography. The ridges and high points around the south pole receive near-continuous sunlight, while the crater floors that interest scientists most do not. A study in Planet by Professor Lifang Li and Pengzhen Guo’s team at the Harbin Institute of Technology takes aim at that split by asking a practical question: where should laser power stations go if future rovers and equipment are going to work inside those shadowed regions? Rather than treating power delivery as a single beam sent from one spot to another, the team modeled it as a coordinated network spread across the terrain near Shackleton Crater. Schematic of the lunar LWPT system. Multi-site laser power transmission network …

Cloned predecessor to Dolly the sheep goes on permanent display at Scottish museum | UK News

A cloned animal that helped pave the way for the creation of Dolly the sheep has gone on permanent display at a Scottish museum. Morag the sheep and identical twin Megan were cloned from the same embryo and were the first mammals to be successfully replicated from differentiated cells. Their births in June 1995 at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh were hailed as a technical breakthrough and made the birth of Dolly the sheep in July 1996 possible. Image: Dolly the sheep in 2002. Pic: PA Experts said the births of Morag and Megan demonstrated that viable sheep could be produced by nuclear transfer from cells which have been cultured in vitro. Dolly was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell as part of the institute’s research into producing genetically-modified farm animals. Image: Pic: National Museums Scotland/PA Morag has now gone on permanent display at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, as part of a new section exploring the role of science in agriculture. Morag died in …
