This evening a once-in-a-generation solar eclipse captivated the UK, delivering the clearest spectacle of its kind since 1999. Millions of Britons turned their eyes to the skies to catch the spectacular solar eclipse with crowds of people coming together at viewing spots across the country. Sony Pictures Revenue Down 13 Percent in Q1 2026
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s operating income for its fiscal first quarter (the three months ending June 30, 2026) was up 21 percent to $154 million from the comparable period a year before, with Q1 sales down 13 percent to $1.98 billion year-on-year. SPE comprises the motion pictures division, television productions and media networks. The motion pictures unit (which includes movie sales from theatrical, home entertainment and television/streaming) saw Q1 revenue fall 13 percent to $645 million from $742 million from a year ago, the drop attributable to lower revenues from theatrical in the period. SPE released only one theatrical movie in North America in the period, the Nate Bargatze comedy The Breadwinner. In the same period the year before SPE released four films — Until Dawn, 28 Years Later, Karate Kid: Legends and Materialists. SPE’s overall increase in profitability for the quarter is also partly down to the decreased marketing costs due to the reduced number of theatrical releases. The motion pictures unit’s next quarter should see a massive spike in revenue and profit with the …
Satellite company taking pictures all over world told by Trump team to go dark over Middle East
A San Francisco-based satellite company says it temporarily restricted access to its widely used images during the Iran war, at the request of the Trump administration. Planet told SFGate it limited access because the government expressed concerns about the “potential misuse” of its ultra-high-definition images. “These are extraordinary and dynamic circumstances, and these decisions have been made in an effort to balance national security and personnel safety concerns with our transparency mission,” the company told the outlet, adding that it had released “nearly all” of the images it restricted between March 9 and July 1. Planet added that it is “temporarily reinstating a delay on publishing of images” over Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan as the Iran war has ratcheted back up. The Independent has contacted the White House, Pentagon and Planet for comment. NASA has shared a major discovery on Mars as its space rover searches for signs of life on the red planet. The Curiosity Mars rover captured a new 360-degree panorama from the red planet, capturing its geological features as it climbed up the Valle Grande valley. Scientists in charge of the mission said they’ve never seen so many polygon features – closed, flat geometric shapes – in one place on Mars. Ashwin Vasavada of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said: “We’ve seen a lot of fascinating landscapes through Curiosity’s eyes, but this sea of polygons took our breath away. “We measured their shapes and chemistry carefully and are hopeful there are clues in the data as to how these features formed.” Curiosity also captured a 360-degree panorama of the strange features on June 19 and 20, but not to the same scale as Wednesday’s discovery.
