Initial reports suggest the aircraft was backing up on the runway when the signaller tripped and was hit by the plane, according to local police. One woman claimed the man, who hasn’t been identified, went under the plane while it was moving in front of “screaming” passengers. Recalling the horror incident one passenger told Radio Canada the moment she saw a man go under the plane while it was moving. She reported panicked scenes on board, adding: “Many were screaming.” Emergency raced to the airport at approximately 7.30pm. The victim was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead. Yves Beauchamp, President and Chief Executive Officer of Montréal Airport said: “The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply. “During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences.” Montreal police said the investigation has been handed over to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). (AP) — Federal investigators have pulled intact data cards from a state police helicopter and Cessna plane that collided at a small airport in central Pennsylvania, killing the plane’s pilot. Aaron McCarter, investigator-in-charge with the National Transportation Safety Board, called the recovery of the cards “very good news from a data standpoint” during a media briefing Friday morning. But neither aircraft was required to have the black boxes that airliners must have to record flight data and cockpit audio, McCarter said. “We don’t know exactly what kind of parameters are on these data cards, but in some cases we get fortunate” and the cards have robust flight data, McCarter said. The crash at the small airport in Carlisle, about 110 miles (170 kilometers) northwest of Philadelphia, involved a Bell 407 helicopter and Cessna 150, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A plane that crashed at a remote military site in western Alaska, killing all eight people on board, was making its second runway approach in heavy fog when it lost contact, authorities said Friday. The Cessna’s two pilots could not see the gravel airstrip and were flying solely by instruments when the plane crashed about midday Thursday, Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief, told a virtual news conference. Regulations required that they abort their first landing attempt because of the lack of visibility, he said, and the plane crashed on its second attempt, about one-third of a mile (0.5 kilometers) from the runway. The runway is surrounded by mountainous terrain on three sides, and the Federal Aviation Administration recommends pilots use GPS and other instruments when they land there. On board were the pilots, two employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and four contractors. The crash happened at Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, approximately 450 miles (725 km) west of Anchorage, Alaska. “This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, commander of Alaskan Command, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region and Eleventh Air Force, said in a statement. The radar site is managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center. A light aircraft has crashed at an airfield during a show, leaving the pilot with serious injuries. Emergency services rushed to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome near Maldon in Essex at around 2.25pm on Sunday (August 16). Essex Police attended the scene after receiving reports of an incident involving a light aircraft during an air show. The pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft. They were rushed to a hospital in London. A spokesperson for the force said those attending the event were urged to follow the instructions of organisers and emergency service personnel. They added: “The public are asked to please avoid the area to allow responders the space to work at the scene.” No further injuries were reported at the aerodrome, which was the birthplace of the Royal Air Force. It was also used in World War One to counter attacks from German Zeppelins and bombers.
