POLL: Should Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie be evicted from royal homes? | Royal | News

Some of the findings of the bombshell probe include that the York sisters have been living rent-free in Kensington Palace and St James’s Palace, despite having their own jobs outside royal duties. And for a number of years, their adjusted rents – reduced because the Royal Household properties require tenants with security clearance – were based on outdated open-market valuations. The findings have sparked backlash with former Liberal Democrat minister Norman Baker, who has long been a critic of royal finances, branding the arrangements “outrageous”. But what do YOU think? Should Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie be evicted from royal homes? Vote in the poll and express your opinion in the comment section below. Another revelation is that Andrew received an undisclosed private income from subletting three cottages on his Royal Lodge estate while paying a peppercorn rent for more than two decades. Mr Baker said: “The whole thing is outrageous. If you look at Andrew, this is adding insult to injury. “It shows an absolute total contempt for the taxpayer, not only that Andrew …

Tory Humiliated By Makerfield Poll Placing Conservatives Last

Tory Humiliated By Makerfield Poll Placing Conservatives Last

A senior Conservative was left red-faced on Sunday when presented with the results of an opinion poll of the Makerfield voters. Sky News presenter Trevor Phillips showed shadow home secretary Chris Philp the findings from a Survation survey of 369 people set to vote in the crunch by-election. The graph showed put the Conservatives in last place on 2% in the constituency. The Green Party were just in front on 3%, the Liberal Democrats on 4%, Restore Britain on 7%, Reform UK on 40% and Labour in the lead on 43%. Phillips said: “Before 2024, you used to come second between 20 and 30% of the vote. “Now there are three parties that could describe themselves as being of the right, or centre right, and you – you’re the official opposition – you’re the least popular of the three! “Reform, Restore, Conservatives.” Pointing to the graph, he said: “Look, there are the Tories, down there at the bottom. What the heck happened?” Sky News’ graph of the Survation opinion poll The Tory MP replied: “By-elections …

Next James Bond poll: Fans’ 007 favourites – and why they may not work

Next James Bond poll: Fans’ 007 favourites – and why they may not work

The search for the next James Bond is under way – and naturally, everyone has an opinion. Radio Times asked readers who they would like to see step into 007’s tuxedo next, with around 2,000 fans weighing in on one of the biggest casting questions in modern cinema. The results were, in some ways, exactly what you might expect. Henry Cavill came out on top, with 101 mentions – 18.4 per cent of the candidate mentions counted – while Tom Hardy followed close behind on 84, and James Norton was not far off with 77. Beyond these names, a familiar shortlist emerged: Cavill, Hardy, Norton, Tom Hiddleston, Theo James, Idris Elba, Jason Statham and Aidan Turner. But are fans looking backwards rather than forwards? The picture has shifted dramatically in recent weeks, with Amazon MGM Studios confirming that “the search for the next James Bond is under way”, and acclaimed casting director Nina Gold – whose credits include Game of Thrones, The Crown and Star Wars – recruited to help find Daniel Craig’s successor. Gold’s …

Poll shows Bass, Raman and Pratt in tight race for mayor

Poll shows Bass, Raman and Pratt in tight race for mayor

Karen Bass, Nithya Raman and Spencer Pratt are locked in a tight battle for Los Angeles mayor, according to a poll released Thursday, with incumbent Bass holding what pollsters called a statistically insignificant lead ahead of Tuesday’s primary. Bass had 26% support from likely voters, followed by City Councilmember Raman with 25% support, according to the poll by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, which was co-sponsored by The Times. Pratt, the former reality TV personality making his first bid for elected office, had support from 22% of the likely voters surveyed. Up until this latest poll, Bass had enjoyed a substantial lead over her challengers, with analysts predicting she would garner enough votes to make a Nov. 3 runoff with either Raman or Pratt. The latest survey suggests any of the three could advance. “You’ve got three very different candidates, each with very different constituencies, all within the margin of error. It’s going to boil down to turnout,” said Mark DiCamillo, the director of Berkeley IGS polls. The poll also showed that in …

Former PM Tsipras looks to unite Greece’s fragmented opposition with new party – POLITICO

The 53-year-old pediatrician emerged as a figurehead in a wave of protests against the country’s political establishment, following the crash and a perceived cover-up by the authorities. She ultimately alienated many people, however, with comments that veered close to right-wing populism on topics such as abortion rights and relations with Turkey. “Her positions are very reminiscent of [Italy’s] 5Star Movement, but with a much stronger patriotic and nationalist slant and a focus on corruption,” Seriatos said. “While it started with moral capital and it seemed that many people would be receptive to what it had to say politically, she is on a downward trajectory,” he added. Critics have also accused her of surrounding herself with figures who maintain pro-Russian views or ties to Moscow. Another party from the right of the political spectrum is likely to emerge from former Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras. He was expelled from the party back in 2024 after strongly criticizing government policies, including on the relationship with neighboring Turkey, as well as what he considers “woke” …

French poll sees far-right Bardella winning, far-left Mélenchon surging in 2027 election – POLITICO

French poll sees far-right Bardella winning, far-left Mélenchon surging in 2027 election – POLITICO

Mélenchon qualifying for the two-candidate runoff next year is seen as a nightmare scenario by most of France’s political center-right and center-left, because polling predicts he would lose heavily to the far right. The Odoxa poll showed the leader of France Unbowed winning 16 percent of the vote in the first round, up from 12 percent in a similar poll conducted last month. The poll placed him virtually level with Philippe, who slipped to 17 percent from 21 percent. Mélenchon was also the most popular left-wing politician among left-wing voters, ahead of rivals such as former President François Hollande and MEP Raphaël Glucksmann. Some 49 percent of left-wing voters supported Mélenchon, compared to 43 percent for Hollande and 36 percent for Glucksmann, the poll said. “For Édouard Philippe, this poll in May is sounding alarm bells, with a double hit … that shows him dropping behind Bardella in the second round and within range of Mélenchon,” wrote Odoxa head Gaël Sliman. An Odoxa poll published in November projected that the National Rally leader would beat …

Poll of judges, lawyers sees grave Trump threat to rule of law

Poll of judges, lawyers sees grave Trump threat to rule of law

Sometimes it seems as though the only thing that stands between a functioning democracy and a full-on Trump autocracy is a thin, black-robed line. Although the Supreme Court, in general, and conservative appellate courts, in particular, have bowed and granted President Trump permission to do pretty much anything he wants, they haven’t thoroughly capitulated to his endless grasping for ever more power. (The way invertebrate congressional Republicans have.) At the lower-court level, judges have repeatedly ruled in ways intended to check Trump, most notably when it comes to violating civil and constitutional rights in pursuit of his indiscriminate immigration dragnet. The tendency to slow-walk his administration’s response to those rulings — and ignore others that Trump thinks he can safely snub — only contribute to the perception of presidential lawlessness and a sense that our judicial system is being strained to something approaching a breaking point. Go ahead, if you’d like, and dismiss those concerns as just so much overwrought hand-wringing, or the mindless anti-Trump blathering of your friendly political columnist. A new survey of …
