Tony Danza, 75, leaves restaurant diners stunned with surprise pop-up performance on NYC sidewalk

Tony Danza is still surprising fans. The 75-year-old singer was recently spotted crooning to diners at Manny’s Bistro in New York City during a surprise performance, which you can watch in the video above. Tony, who made a name for himself in the ’80s in sitcoms like Taxi and Who’s the Boss?, sang “Mack the Knife” by the late American singer Bobby Darin, accompanied by a piano player, a saxophonist, and a cellist. When Omar Limon serves tetelas at Hoja Blanca, a weekly pop-up held midweek at the sleek bar Truss & Twine in Palm Springs, he uses their pointy scalene-triangle shape as a central subject, guiding the viewer’s eye through a series of shapes and colors and contrasts. My first dinner at the Bruce pop-up happened last month out of desperation. I’d planned with a friend to arrive extra early at one of L.A.’s current impossible-to-book restaurants in hopes of snagging a couple of unreserved seats. Then: ugh. Key financial sponsors of Noma’s Los Angeles pop-up say they have withdrawn support from the 16-week dinner series slated to begin in Silver Lake on Wednesday. The move follows reports from former staff who recounted physical, verbal and psychological abuse primarily executed by the restaurant’s co-founder and figurehead, celebrity chef René Redzepi. Representatives for American Express, Resy and Blackbird confirmed Tuesday that the companies are no longer sponsors of the event. The withdrawal was first reported on Monday evening by Expedite, a newsletter that covers technology and the hospitality industry, which noted that Noma had removed mention of American Express from its website. Representatives for Noma did not respond to a request for comment, but on Monday said that the pop-up series would continue. Resurfaced allegations of abuse and an expected protest won’t stop Noma’s sold-out Los Angeles pop-up, which is set to begin on Wednesday evening. A spokesperson for the world-famous Copenhagen restaurant told The Times on Monday that plans for Noma’s 16-week appearance in Silver Lake, with seats priced at $1,500 per guest, will continue as scheduled. The pop-up, the allegations and a public apology by the restaurant’s celebrity chef and co-founder René Redzepi are dividing the restaurant industry and renewing discussions of systemic imbalance and fair compensation. A former Noma employee has for weeks posted a series of anonymous messages to Instagram from other workers and interns recounting physical, verbal and emotional abuse sustained in years prior. These accounts were compiled and posted by Jason Ignacio White, who previously helmed Noma’s fermentation lab. White also posts about his own mental health struggles during his years at the Copenhagen restaurant.
