The Royal College of Nursing has “no position” on the debate around gender ideology and biological sex, a senior executive has told an employment tribunal. Patricia Marquis, executive director of Royal College of Nursing (RCN) England, said the organisation seeks to balance the views of its 600,000-strong membership, which she claimed is “pretty reflective of society” and has “a range of views on many issues”. Ms Marquis was giving evidence in Dundee on Wednesday in Sandie Peggie’s employment tribunal against the RCN union, in what is expected to be the final day of evidence. WASHINGTON — Another top FBI official is leaving the bureau after just a year on the job. Andrew Bailey, who joined the FBI in the new position of “co-deputy director” in September 2025 to work alongside then-Deputy Director Dan Bongino, is stepping aside, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News. Bailey confirmed his move later Monday morning on social media. An internal FBI email said Bailey was leaving for family reasons, the two people familiar with the matter said. Bailey had been the attorney general of Missouri before resigning his position to join the FBI last year. On Sunday, he dismissed calls for AI regulation on the grounds that doing so would surrender America’s position in the global AI arms race. “Look, we’re leading China in AI,” the president told reporters. “We’re the most sophisticated country in the world. London dealer Sid Motion will close her eponymous gallery in London’s South Bermondsey district when its fall exhibition closes. She opened the gallery a decade ago. “As I look ahead to the future, I can see that the gallery is not in the financial position to fully honor the extraordinary potential of each of my artists, and I will not compromise when it comes to supporting them in the way that they deserve,” said Motion in a statement on her website. “Closing the gallery is a positive and conscious decision. As Iran war escalates, U.S. is fighting from a weakened position
President Donald Trump is ramping up the war in Iran once again, but this escalation comes while the United States has comparatively fewer tools in its military arsenal — and to soften the war’s economic effects. Since the total breakdown of the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran in early July, the conflict has intensified, with the countries exchanging fire for 11 days straight, resulting in four American deaths. The total number of U.S. deaths since the war began in February now stands at 18, alongside nearly a hundred casualties, per reporting from the New York Times. The escalation comes as the U.S. is in a weaker position than when it started, with historically low levels in the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, and with comparatively diminished military and diplomatic resources. On Monday, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that the reserve fell to about 311 million barrels of oil over the previous week, the lowest level since March 1983.
