The Daily Show shreds Ivanka Trump’s ‘out-of-touch’ interview about $1.4 billion private island project

Days after Ivanka, 44, boasted on a podcast about developing the Sazan Island into a private eco-resort with her husband, Jared Kushner, Daily Show anchor Michael Kosta played a clip from her interview and slow-clapped as he sarcastically said, “Let’s give it up for this couple.” “And for those of you who are thinking, hey, before buying a private island, shouldn’t billionaires maybe read the room?” Kosta said. “What you don’t understand is, the island doesn’t have rooms yet. They can’t lay the foundation for those rooms until they burn down all those stupid trees, okay?” Ivanka said on David Senra’s podcast Sunday that she and Kushner found the island while they …

AUKUS unveils undersea drone project to deepen defense partnership – POLITICO

AUKUS is a trilateral security partnership established in 2021 by Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. It focuses on countering China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region by enhancing the three countries’ military capabilities through the deployment of nuclear-powered submarines, what is known as the “Pillar One” of the alliance. The three countries also are cooperating to develop advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cyber capabilities, and other undersea and defense systems — referred to as “Pillar Two.” The alliance encompasses Australia’s acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines from the United States, the joint development of a new AUKUS-class submarine, and the creation of facilities to host U.S. and British submarines on Australian territory. In mid-2025, the U.K. and Australia scrambled to reassure Washington of their commitment to AUKUS after the Pentagon ordered a review of the pact, fueling fears that the United States could retreat from the agreement. Those concerns eased in October, when U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his backing for the alliance. “The United States, as we’ve said from the beginning, and …

Critics Oppose Wyoming Hydroelectric Project, Pointing to Climate-Driven Drought Crisis

Critics Oppose Wyoming Hydroelectric Project, Pointing to Climate-Driven Drought Crisis

A proposed pumped-water electricity storage facility at Seminoe Reservoir could decimate the prized Miracle Mile trout fishery on the North Platte River and jeopardize a bighorn sheep herd that wildlife officials rely on to support the species’ populations in other areas, critics of the $4 billion project say. Anglers, business owners and wildlife biologists joined state and federal regulatory officials Thursday to testify before the Legislature’s Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee. They cautioned that a primary federal permitting review — by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission — is too lax on “acceptable” impacts and riddled with inaccurate assumptions fed to it by project developer rPlus Hydro. “These concerns are not theoretical for us,” Casper Mayor Ray Pacheco told the legislative panel. “Casper relies directly on the North Platte River for drinking water, wastewater treatment, recreation, tourism and the quality of life.” The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s concerns regarding impacts to the Ferris-Seminoe bighorn sheep herd, mostly due to blasting and industrial traffic during the project’s five-year construction period, “may be unresolvable,” one …

At this weekend’s box office, Obsession pulled off the incredibly rare feat of posting results for its second weekend that were around 30% higher than its opening. Barker’s first film made $17.2 million when it debuted and $22 million this past weekend. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the $10 million bid for his next film will have to wait as Barker signed a deal prior to the release of Obsession with Universal Pictures/Focus Features, which gives their production banner Blumhouse-Atomic Monster the right of first refusal for Barker’s next film. The buzzy horror Obsession is a new spin on the long-running “be careful what you wish for” trope. Michael …

Every ‘Star Wars’ Project That’s Coming After ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ (and a Few That Aren’t)

Whew, buddy, where to start with this one? This project, initially announced in 2023, has cycled through various creative teams, including writers George Nolfi, Damon Lindelof, and Steven Knight, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct. After Nolfi boarded the project, there’s been next to no news on this one, and it feels safe to assume it’s DOA. Lindelof did recently confirm that he was fired from the project in 2023 along with his co-writers, telling the House of R podcast that he’d envisioned a film that would have explored the duelling forces of nostalgia and revisionism and “do a Protestant Reformation inside ‘Star Wars’,” but that the movie’s relationship to the broader franchise—including “where it was inside of the canon, what its relationship was to Episode IX”—ultimately made it a tough script to crack. Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Film Searchlight Pictures/Everett Collection Waititi always seems to have about a dozen irons in the fire at any given time, but the Thor writer-director has supposedly been developing a Star Wars project since 2020. Work on that …

I turned my Obsidian vault into an automatic project tracker with one free plugin

Building a large library of notes inside Obsidian is easy, but finding specific information across thousands of files makes it genuinely difficult over time. While it is great when you are a beginner, once you start spending twenty minutes looking for a single note, you see the issue. The Dataview community plugin is exactly what you need to turn your local file system into a searchable database. Related 6 Reasons Why Obsidian Is My Go-To App for Deep Research Projects Deep research feels lighter with Obsidian on hand. Manage data in Obsidian vaults Huge vaults hide your notes unless you turn them into a database Jorge Aguilar / MakeUseOf Obsidian runs on local, plaintext Markdown files, which makes it great for fast writing and note-taking. Since writing is easy, no matter how many files you create, you can quickly build up hundreds or even thousands of notes. That’s also where the problem starts if you want a good vault. Finding specific information across a library that large gets genuinely difficult over time, and manual navigation …

Iran Propaganda Push Seeks to Project Unity Despite Internal Divisions

By Parisa Hafezi and Angus McDowall DUBAI, May 21 (Reuters) – Iran’s leaders are splashing propaganda posters across Tehran boasting of national unity and victory over a global superpower, just months after crushing protests with mass killings and as war worsens economic pain for their people.   Alongside the images of Revolutionary Guardsmen and a blockaded Strait of Hormuz, authorities are staging military-themed mass weddings and public gun training sessions in mosques to vaunt a spirit of national resistance.   Unlike the revolutionary religious messages of the past, today’s propaganda emphasises nationalist themes aimed beyond a hardline support base. “The old ideology of the Islamic Republic no longer really ‌had much traction within the society. And therefore there was a ‌need to draw on other elements of Iranian identity that could mobilize masses,” said Ali Vaez, Iran project director at the International Crisis Group.  How far it may enjoy any success among a deeply disillusioned population, however, is debatable, Vaez and other analysts say.  While Iran has managed to withstand U.S. and Israeli airstrikes and brought …

Biggest U.S. wind project yet is set to go online next month

Biggest U.S. wind project yet is set to go online next month

A wind project billed as the largest clean energy installation in the U.S. is due to come online next month, even as the pipeline of new large-scale renewables dries up amid pressure from the Trump administration. The SunZia wind farm in New Mexico, providing 3.5 gigawatts of power capacity — enough to power one million homes annually — will be operational as soon as June 15, according to people familiar with the matter. The project includes a 550-mile transmission line carrying electricity to Arizona, and has been in the works for two decades. The Pattern Energy Group LLC development is likely to be one of the last in a shrinking pool of blockbuster deals to reach fruition, with President Trump’s government ending lucrative federal tax incentives and delaying permitting for renewables. The Pentagon is also sitting on a growing backlog of dozens of proposed U.S. wind farms and withholding authorizations key for developing the power projects. A spokesperson for Pattern Energy declined to comment. Roughly 5,000 wind turbines for other projects are awaiting final approval …
