Disclosing autism to AI chatbots prompts overly cautious, stereotypical advice

Disclosing autism to AI chatbots prompts overly cautious, stereotypical advice

When autistic people ask artificial intelligence programs for life advice, mentioning their diagnosis prompts these systems to recommend highly conservative choices like skipping social events or avoiding romance. This shift in advice reveals a hidden tension where the technology relies heavily on stereotypes, leaving users torn between feeling safely supported and frustratingly infantilized. These findings were published at the April 2026 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. Many autistic individuals face stigma in their daily lives, which can lead to social isolation and communication barriers. To find support without the fear of judgment, some turn to artificial intelligence chatbots. These text-based programs, often called large language models, are trained on massive amounts of internet text to predict and generate human-like writing. Autistic people often ask these programs for help navigating relationships, workplace conflicts, and personal decisions. Users sometimes reveal their autism to the chatbot, hoping the system will tailor its advice to their specific needs. This expectation reflects a broader trend of consumers wanting customized interactions with their digital tools. Virginia Tech computer …

Anthropic just launched Claude Design, an AI tool that turns prompts into prototypes and challenges Figma

Anthropic today launched Claude Design, a new product from its Anthropic Labs division that allows users to create polished visual work — designs, interactive prototypes, slide decks, one-pagers, and marketing collateral — through conversational prompts and fine-grained editing controls. The release, available immediately in research preview to all paid Claude subscribers, is the company’s most aggressive expansion beyond its core language model business and into the application layer that has historically belonged to companies like Figma, Adobe, and Canva. Claude Design is powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Anthropic’s most capable generally available vision model, which the company also released today. Anthropic says it is rolling access out gradually throughout the day to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. The simultaneous launches mark a watershed for Anthropic, whose ambitions now visibly extend from foundation model provider to full-stack product company — one that wants to own the arc from a rough idea to a shipped product. The timing is also significant: Anthropic hit roughly $20 billion in annualized revenue in early March 2026, according to …

Travellers in Tenerife have been told to take “maximum caution” as Storm Therese sweeps the Canary Islands. Tenerife has declared a state of emergency due to heavy rainfall. Access to Mount Teide has closed due to snow, shortly before the busy Easter travel period. Aemet, Spain’s meteorological agency, issued yellow and orange weather warnings across the Canary Islands on Thursday, with strong gusts of wind, downpours, flash flooding and rough seas forecast. Island president Rosa Dávila said that the Island Emergency Plan will remain active while Aemet holds orange weather warnings. Dávila said on Friday: “The night has left numerous incidents such as falling lights, outages, power outages and water accumulation. Several rescues have also been carried out in coastal areas and ravines due to the strong waves and rising water.” Here’s everything travellers need to know about the storm in Tenerife and the latest travel advice. Microsoft’s new AI training method eliminates bloated system prompts without sacrificing model performance

Microsoft’s new AI training method eliminates bloated system prompts without sacrificing model performance

In building LLM applications, enterprises often have to create very long system prompts to adjust the model’s behavior for their applications. These prompts contain company knowledge, preferences, and application-specific instructions. At enterprise scale, these contexts can push inference latency past acceptable thresholds and drive per-query costs up significantly.  On-Policy Context Distillation (OPCD), a new training framework proposed by researchers at Microsoft, helps bake the knowledge and preferences of applications directly into a model. OPCD uses the model’s own responses during training, which avoids some of the pitfalls of other training techniques. This improves the abilities of models for bespoke applications while preserving their general capabilities.  Why long system prompts become a liability In-context learning allows developers to update a model’s behavior at inference time without modifying its underlying parameters. Updating parameters is typically a slow and expensive process. However, in-context knowledge is transient. This knowledge does not carry across different conversations with the model, meaning you have to feed the model the exact same massive set of instructions or documents every time. For an enterprise …

Bali flooding prompts tourist evacuation: Official

BADUNG, Indonesia: Flooding in parts of Indonesia’s popular resort island of Bali prompted hundreds of people, including dozens of tourists, to seek safety, a local disaster official said on Tuesday (Feb 24). Intense rains triggered flooding since late on Monday across several Bali districts and the provincial capital city of Denpasar, said local disaster mitigation agency senior official I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya. There were no fatalities, he said. Waters inundated facilities, such as cafes and gas stations, in the Badung district and forced some tourists to be evacuated on rubber boats. “We are here to visit Bali Zoo … so we were trying to visit the elephants, but due to this condition we couldn’t do this,” 28-year-old Mexican national Briana Palacios told AFP. I improved my speaking skills in a week using these ChatGPT voice mode prompts

I improved my speaking skills in a week using these ChatGPT voice mode prompts

Working from home is quietly doing something to my speaking ability. I’m an experienced writer and a fluent English speaker. It’s been my working language my entire life. But after years of a lonely solo writing lifestyle, I noticed something uncomfortable. I’d join a video interview or a team call, open my mouth, and feel a half-second delay between thought and word that wasn’t there before. My fluency had just gone a little rusty from disuse. So I ran an interesting experiment with ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode as a speaking coach. Each ChatGPT prompt was chosen to help me work through the exact gaps I’d noticed, like hesitation, word choice/retrieval, and a few pronunciation slips. My goal was to not let my overthinking derail my speaking fluency. Pronunciation prompts fix bad language habits Target a few difficult words at a time Saikat Basu/MakeUseOf Saikat Basu/MakeUseOf Saikat Basu/MakeUseOf ChatGPT can model any supported language and its vocabulary at any speed, on demand. The real power is in specificity if we want to improve our speaking skills …

Using books as discussion prompts can help children with language delay

Using books as discussion prompts can help children with language delay

Since the pandemic, more children have been starting school without being “school-ready”. In 2022-23, 33% of all children starting reception in England did not have the skills needed for success in school, rising to 45% of children receiving free school meals. Language deficits are a significant part of a lack of school readiness. These include the failure both to understand and produce language, driven by a lack of vocabulary. These skills are important for regulating attention and behaviour. The inability to understand or express themselves makes engagement in school challenging for children. Early childhood language difficulties have a long term impact. Children with identified vocabulary difficulties at age five are three times more likely to have mental health problems in adulthood, and are twice as likely to be unemployed. What’s more, 81% of children with behavioural problems have language difficulties, and 60% of young offenders have low language skills. Language skill deficits are a major public health concern. One evidence-based way to improve young children’s language development is through dialogic book sharing. This means that …
