Three more charged with Henry Nowak protests violence as police release update | UK | News

Three more people have been charged with violent disorder after protests in Southampton earlier this week following the murder of Henry Nowak. Connor Bishop, 24, of Oxford Street, Southampton, Reece Robinson, 21, of Soberton Road, Havant, and Noah Etherington, 18, of Rowbury Road, Havant, will appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning, Hampshire Police said. The charges come in the wake of protests following the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa, 23, to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 21 years for the murder of 18-year-old Mr Nowak in December. Anger erupted after police body-worn video was released showing Mr Nowak being placed in handcuffs moments before he became unconscious and subsequently died. The treatment of the 18-year-old triggered a political row, with the Prime Minister urging politicians to heed the teenager’s relatives’ calls not to use the case “to cause disturbances”. Violent protests erupted near where the student was fatally stabbed, after Digwa claimed he had been the victim of a racial attack, while Mr Nowak was handcuffed by police who ignored his pleas …

The government says the development on the Adriatic coast would be transformational for the former communist nation as it seeks to enter the high-end tourism market and pushes for European Union membership. But the venture, spanning an abandoned island and a nearby stretch of seafront on Albania’s southern coast, has drawn opposition from environmental campaigners and critics of long-time Socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama. Kushner and Ivanka Trump found the site on a barefoot hike The luxury project has two components: a coastal development in the Narta Lagoon area, which is a wildlife reserve, and a smaller resort on the nearby uninhabited island …

The Central Jewish Council filed an emergency lawsuit, citing Ye’s history of antisemitic remarks, including admiration for Adolf Hitler and the sale of swastika-emblazoned merchandise. Despite widespread controversy surrounding the artist, the Amsterdam District Court found no grounds to bar the scheduled performances on June 6 and 8. “There are no indications that West’s presence in the coming days will lead to concrete public order dangers,” the court stated. The Manhattan Institute Helped Kill DEI. Now It’s Coming for Protests

A right-wing think tank responsible for the emergence of zero-tolerance policing in 1990s New York City and the Trump administration’s scorched-earth campaign against “diversity, equality and inclusion” programs is behind state-level legislative efforts to classify minor protest-related crimes as “civil terrorism.” The Manhattan Institute, cofounded in 1978 by former Central Intelligence Agency director William Casey, is in the midst of a yearlong campaign to pass state-level legislation reclassifying minor crimes like vandalism, blocking a roadway, or trespassing during a protest as felonies that would carry 18-month prison sentences as punishment. The Manhattan Institute’s push to criminalize forms of nonviolent disobedience as a form of terrorism comes amid a broader Trump administration effort to crack down on leftist organizations, causes, and social movements, while recasting acts of nonviolent civil disobedience as potential crimes. “Today’s left-wing agitators deploy random acts of lawlessness designed to inconvenience and disrupt as many civilians as possible, hoping to pressure them to get the government to change course. This tactic is reasonably described as a form of terrorism, though the activists aren’t …
