12 Unforgettable Outfits Princess Diana Wore to Trooping the Colour

Trooping the Colour, the traditional military parade held on the streets of London on a Saturday in early June (this year it will be the 13th), is technically a celebration of the monarch’s birthday. However, it also gives the public the chance to observe royal style, and to look back at the royal family’s fashion choices through the years. The late Princess Diana is considered one of the most important fashion icons of the last century, and her historic appearances at the annual celebration saw her grow from a young fiancée on the eve of her wedding to a woman on the verge of separating from the heir to the throne. Diana attended this event as a member of the Royal Family from 1981 to 1992, then saluting Queen Elizabeth II, without ever missing a single one. Every Guest at the Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling Wedding

Every Guest at the Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling Wedding

The British royal family turned out in droves Saturday for the intimate nuptials of Harriet Sperling and Peter Phillips. The couple, who met through their teenage daughters two years ago, exchanged vows in front of friends and family including Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh at All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucester on Saturday, June 6. Summer dresses, hats, top hats, and tails were the order of the day as the congregation entered the pretty village church, which is equidistant from Gatcombe Park—Princess Anne’s Gloucestershire estate where Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall grew up—and the Sperling family home in South Cerney. Among the early arrivals was Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs, co-founder of Beulah London, a label loved by Harriet and the Princess of Wales, and her husband, Rupert Finch, who was linked to Kate Middleton in her pre-royal days. But it was the royal family who stole the show. King Charles III and Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales were there for the romantic occasion. Also in attendance were …

Princess Anne Is Hosting Peter Phillips’s Wedding Reception at Her 19th-Century Mansion

Princess Anne Is Hosting Peter Phillips’s Wedding Reception at Her 19th-Century Mansion

The late queen purchased Gatcombe Park in 1976 as a wedding present for Anne after she married her first husband, Mark Phillips. (According to author Geoffrey Sanders, the estate of more than 500 acres cost about 500,000 British pounds at the time. Its previous owners later said that the royal family was a tough negotiator on the purchase price.) Rebuilt in the 1820s, the Georgian mansion required significant renovations to be inhabitable, but the stonework and floor plan of the main structure and its glass-walled conservatory remained largely intact. Anne used to be a professional equestrian and even competed in the three-day event at the 1976 Olympics. When she moved into Gatcombe Park, she upgraded the stables and turned them into a modern center for such events. From the early 1980s to 2023, Anne used the grounds to host the annual Festival of British Eventing, which attracted riders from around the world. Gatcombe Park in June 1976. Will Kate Middleton Visit the United States This Summer?

Will Kate Middleton Visit the United States This Summer?

Those who closely follow the British royal family often read into even the most subtle of fashion messaging, particularly when it comes from Kate Middleton. On Tuesday, June 2, alongside King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Princess of Wales attended a reception at Saint James’s Palace in London to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK. For the occasion, she chose a red dress with small white hearts by Rodarte, an American brand founded in 2001 by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Britain’s Catherine, Princess of Wales, attends a reception at St James’s Palace in London, on June 2, 2026, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Cancer Research UK. JONATHAN BRADY/Getty Images It was enough to fuel speculation among monarchy watchers, partly because Middleton wears relatively few American labels, generally favoring British designers or local brands on her official travels. Recently, however, the fashion call from across the Atlantic seems to have grown louder. During her recent trip to Italy, the princess also opted for a skirt by Jenni Kayne, a Los Angeles-based …

Who Made the Guest List for Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s Wedding?

Who Made the Guest List for Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s Wedding?

Meanwhile, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s attendance is unknown, as the wedding coincides with the Epsom Derby, where Charles will present a trophy, palace officials have confirmed. Prince Harry, Phillips’s cousin, is also not expected to make the trip to the UK for the wedding. Phillips was close to William and Harry when they were growing up and was cited as a peacemaker between the two brothers when they fell out after Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. “It’s the first royal wedding since Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank, and prior to that Harry and Meghan’s nuptials, but it’s going to be on a much smaller scale to both of those very grand Windsor affairs,” Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, told Vanity Fair. “I think this is going to feel and look a lot more like an intimate family wedding than a royal wedding. Don’t forget it’s [the] second time round for Peter and Harriet, and I think the fact that the reception is at Princess Anne’s home signals …

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Investigation Expands to Include Alleged Behavior at Royal Ascot in 2002

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Investigation Expands to Include Alleged Behavior at Royal Ascot in 2002

Last year King Charles III stripped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of his official titles, meaning that he could no longer consider himself a prince. The move was the most severe consequence the king could impose without the involvement of parliament—but it didn’t end public outcry about Mountbatten-Windsor’s presence in the Epstein files, particularly after he made another appearance in a cache released this past winter. In February, following his appearance in the Epstein files, Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in connection with an investigation into suspicion of misconduct in public office. (Mountbatten-Windsor has previously denied any wrongdoing, and he has not been charged with a crime.) Now the inquiry into Mountbatten-Windsor seems to be widening. According to The Times, police are currently looking into allegations outside of the ones related to the former prince’s inclusion in the Epstein files, including an accusation that Mountbatten-Windsor “behaved inappropriately” toward a waitress at the Royal Ascot horse racing event in 2002. Following his arrest, Mountbatten-Windsor was interviewed under caution by police on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released after 11 …

How Kelly Klein Ended Up With Wallis Simpson’s Pearl Earrings

How Kelly Klein Ended Up With Wallis Simpson’s Pearl Earrings

Nearly 15 years after Simpson wore the pearl earrings to her husband’s funeral, they fell into the hands of another headline-making couple. Simpson died on April 24, 1986 and some of her possessions were auctioned off by Sotheby’s in Geneva. Enter Calvin Klein, creator of the first designer jeans, who purchased the earrings, necklace, and a pearl pendant for his second wife, photographer Kelly Klein, totaling $1.18 million. Kelly later debuted the pieces to attend the 1989 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. In 2007, twenty years after acquiring the pieces, the now-divorced Klein couple put the pieces up for sale at another Sotheby’s auction. “The first time I wore them, it created a lot of drama. I hadn’t realized just how much buzz there was surrounding these pearls,” says Klein told W Magazine in 2007, calling a pearl “the ultimate feminine jewel.” She continued, “All evening long, people came up to me and asked, ‘Are those the pearls?’ It was quite a spectacle.” The Windsor estate sale in 1987 raised $50.3 million—seven …

Newly Unearthed Letter From Princess Diana Reveals Dislike of London and ‘Blissful Honeymoon’ With Charles

It’s not unusual for letters written by Princess Diana to find its way to auction, for as we well know, interest in the late royal remains high. The most recent correspondence to find itself under the hammer is a letter written shortly after her marriage to then then-prince, now King Charles III in 1981. The missive, penned in September of that year, was addressed to one of her school friends, Katherine Hanbury. The wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Bettmann It’s Hansbury who is now offering those items for sale, in an auction to be conducted by Gorringe’s Fine Art & Interiors. Along with the letter, which is accompanied by its original envelope, the lot includes a number of photos from their time together at school, as well as a colorful birthday card depicting a rabbit on horseback blowing a wind instrument, and a program from the Thanksgiving Mass celebrated at St Martin in the Fields Church, London, in November 1997. In one photo from the auction offering, the future princess appears near …

Queen Camilla Has a “Ruthless Streak,” Says One Royals Biographer

Queen Camilla Has a “Ruthless Streak,” Says One Royals Biographer

Queen Camilla did not attend Eugenie’s wedding and skipped Beatrice’s as well. To emphasize Queen Camilla’s resolute character when it comes to severing ties, Wilson recalled an incident from the years before her marriage to Charles, when Camilla allegedly used a hunting whip to ward off some overly intrusive photographers. “She once famously wielded her hefty hunting whip over the heads of photographers who came too close during her problem days before her marriage to Charles,” he noted. “With Andrew, Fergie, Beatrice and Eugenie in her sights, looks like she’ll be cracking it again.” Tensions between Camilla and the York family actually seem to have roots in the past. Indeed, the queen did not attend Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor in 2018, instead attending an already scheduled engagement at Crathie Primary School, near Balmoral. The choice surprised many royal watchers at the time. Camilla also did not show up at Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The ceremony, held in a reduced form due to COVID-19 restrictions, included …

Mindy Kaling Shares Her Motto With the Royal Family

Mindy Kaling Shares Her Motto With the Royal Family

Last year, Meghan Markle invited Mindy Kaling to participate in an episode of her Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan. There, the pair cooked and did crafts for a child’s birthday party. Judging by her appearance on the program, Kaling and Meghan have an easy rapport but don’t seem to be especially close. At one point, for instance, Meghan corrects Kaling about her last name: it’s not Markle anymore, but Sussex. Still, it seems Kaling may have picked up something from her interactions with the duchess. On a visit to Kaling’s Los Angeles office for a Bustle cover story, writer Ashley Spencer spotted an item with a royal connection: a bedazzled picture frame with the words “Never Complain, Never Explain” embroidered on mustard yellow fabric. The phrase should be familiar to royal watchers: It’s a signature line spoken by Queen Elizabeth II that eventually became an unofficial royal family motto. The token was apparently a gift to Kaling from B.J. Novak, her costar from The Office. Kaling and Novak dated in the 2000s; now they …
