How youth reference groups can help amplify research findings in public discussions and improve policymaking – Evidence & Policy Blog

Lucas Walsh, Mark Rickinson, Blake Cutler and Joanne Gleeson This blog post is based on the Evidence & Policy article, ‘How youth reference groups can contribute to amplify research findings to public discussions and potentially improve policy making‘, part of the part of the Evidence & Policy Special Issue: The Role of Youth-Led Research in Policy Change. Where youth engagement in policymaking is often tokenistic or absent (Waite et al, 2024), this could be improved by collaborating with young people as research evidence users.  In a previous post, we examined what it means for practitioners to use research well (Rickinson et al., 2024). The Quality Use of Research Evidence (QURE) Framework guides how research can effectively be applied in practice. High‑quality, relevant research needs to be thoughtfully integrated into professional practice through critical engagement and deliberate implementation. Quality use is best supported by individual skills, mindsets and relationships, as well as organisational leadership, culture and infrastructure to enable effective evidence use. We’ve now applied the QURE Framework to better understand what enables quality use of research …

Exclusive: Elizabeth Debicki Explains the Sly, Sparkling Royals Reference In Her Vintage Tiara and Vera Wang Gown

During fittings this weekend, Wang, Debicki, and her longtime stylist Elizabeth Saltzman figured out how to make the regal headpiece work with the romantic gown. “The dress wanted something, but it didn’t want it to sort of overpower anything,” Debicki says. “Then my brilliant stylist just went, ‘Why don’t we just turn it around and put it on the back of your head?’ There were 10 people in the room, and everyone went, ‘Oh, yeah.’” Photographer Elias Tahan Photographer Elias Tahan Saltzman and Wang, both former editors at Vogue, have known each other for years, and Debicki said that working on the dress as it evolved over 12 sketches and iterations was an educational experience. “It was like being sat in front of a documentary that I didn’t even know I wanted to watch about fashion,” she says. “For me, I was just eating Swedish fish, just watching them talk for hours.” Her appropriately Grecian sandals were made custom by London-based Footwear for Film, and the details were hand-foiled. Debicki made a special trip to …

The Key Historic Reference Behind Charli XCX’s Deceivingly Simple Met Gala 2026 Look

The Key Historic Reference Behind Charli XCX’s Deceivingly Simple Met Gala 2026 Look

For his spring-summer 1988 haute couture collection, Saint Laurent himself paid homage to Vincent van Gogh’s 1890 masterpiece Irises with two jackets. One of which, which was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art  in 2024 as part of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” was seemingly a key reference for Charli’s dress. Both the jacket and the painting also appear in “Costume Art.” Naomi Campbell and another model wear Yves Saint Lauren’s Van Gogh-inspired floral jackets. Yves Saint Laurent, spring-summer 1988 . Two of these, Irises and Roses are part of the  Met’s collection, and hang in adjacent galleries. They were owned by the artist’s mother until her death in 1907. The evening jacket by Saint Laurent is a worthy masterpiece to reference Van Gogh’s: the painting was recreated with embroidery by the French embroidery house Maison Lesage, and, according to the museum’s records, the embellishment work …

King Charles makes reference to ‘victims’ in US speech amid Epstein scandal | Royal | News

With the Queen sitting nearby the King said: “Distinguished members of the 119th Congress, it is here in these very halls that this spirit of liberty and the promise of America’s Founders is present in every session and every vote cast. Not by the will of one, but by the deliberation of many, representing the living mosaic of the United States. “In both of our countries, it is the very fact of our vibrant, diverse and free societies that gives us our collective strength, including to support victims of some of the ills that, so tragically, exist in both our societies today.” There have been repeated calls by the family of Virginia Giuffre, a victim of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, for a meeting with the King and Queen, but sources have previously said the couple will not meet them. Palace sources said such a meeting would not be possible during the four-day state visit as it could jeopardise legal proceedings and stop justice for victims. Meanwhile, referencing the gunman who attempted to storm the White …

Queen supports abuse survivors in speech seen as reference to ‘Epstein issue’ | UK News

The Queen expressed her solidarity and sympathy with female survivors of violence and sexual abuse in a major speech, being viewed as “a very thinly veiled reference to the ‘Epstein issue’”. Camilla warned that a “culture of silence” can “empower violence against women and girls” in a speech to mark International Women’s Day, at St James’s Palace on Tuesday. Pic: PA The Royal Family has been faced with numerous allegations about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s links with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein that have continued with the release of the Epstein files. The former prince denies any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. The Queen, who is a long-time campaigner against domestic violence and sexual abuse, spoke on Tuesday about the her meetings with French abuse survivor Gisèle Pelicot and the family of Carol Hunt, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Hertfordshire in 2024. She was wearing a badge, given to her by Ms Pelicot, which read “Shame Must Change Sides”. Image: Camilla wore …

King Charles will make veiled reference to Iran War in Commonwealth Day message | UK News

The King will describe this as “a time of great challenge” as “across the world, communities and nations face the increasing pressures of conflict” during his message to mark Commonwealth Day. In an extract released ahead of the annual event on Monday, celebrating the Commonwealth nations, King Charles, who is also head of the Commonwealth, writes: “We join together on this Commonwealth Day at a time of great challenge and great possibility. “Across our world, communities and nations face the increasing pressures of conflict, climate change and rapid transformation. Yet it is often in such testing moments that the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth is most clearly revealed.” It can be seen as a veiled reference to recent hostilities between US and Israeli forces and Iran, as well as conflicts from Ukraine to Sudan. Scientists also designated 2025 as the third warmest year on record, with the climate crisis a long-held concern of the King. But wanting to convey an optimistic tone and outlook about the role of Commonwealth nations, he also writes: “Working together, …

Prince Harry appears to reference Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor controversy in new interview

Prince Harry has appeared to address the arrest of his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, for the first time in a new interview.  Speaking to Channel 4 News from Jordan, where he visited this week with his wife, Meghan Markle, Harry said there has been “a lot of stuff in the news”, which may have been referring to the ongoing situation with the royal family back in the UK.  Speaking about Gaza, he added: “It goes at an incredible pace and what’s been happening in that region has been going on for a long time and it drops out of the news. So I think it was a really important time for us to collaborate and come here and shine a light and focus on the very real humanitarian catastrophe that has happened and continues.” At the start of the interview, however, the journalist conducting the interview said: “I understand you don’t wish to talk about your family, your uncle, things back in London, you’re here because you don’t want to distract from the work you’re doing …

Kwame Adusei is creating a reference point for an African fashion house in L.A.

Kwame Adusei is creating a reference point for an African fashion house in L.A.

Raiven, left, and Sylvie wear Kwame Adusei Kayco jumpsuits, Stuart Weitzman shoes. Nana Kwame Adusei moves inconspicuously around his light-flooded Fashion District studio and atelier in a flowing white shirt, wide black shorts, baseball hat pulled low and tabi boots, observing as much as he is guiding. It’s a shoot day, and Adusei is adjusting one of his archive pieces — a corseted jumpsuit with stirrups in distressed industrial gray — on two models. Posing in Adusei’s designs, the women move like they’re wearing a second skin: earth angels in polyamide, comfortably communing with each other and their environment. As a designer, Adusei is known for making these kinds of clothes: the ones that feel like an intrinsic part of a lived experience and only exist as a result of a deep consideration of people’s literal and metaphorical movements. Looking at his designs in action, I have a thought that I haven’t stopped thinking since: “Kwame Adusei likes women.” Adusei was born in Accra, Ghana, and raised in a house with three older sisters. He’s …
