Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti on making the funniest scene of the year

Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti on making the funniest scene of the year

TELLURIDE, Colo. — Standing ovations at film festivals are a rite: part appreciation, part obligation, part a need to stretch your legs after sitting for a couple of hours. But for an audience to explode and roar their approval in the middle of a movie? That rarely, if ever, happens. Except it did, midway through the Telluride Film Festival world premiere of Jesse Eisenberg‘s delightful comedy “The Debut.” The applause followed a scene between Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti that took its audience on such an exhilarating journey that there was almost no choice but to cheer in admiration, as if to say: What did we just see? Sitting in the theater, Eisenberg, producer Emma Stone and Paul Giamatti looked at each other and asked themselves the same question but for a different reason. “It was hard to process and, at the same time, just so affirming,” Eisenberg told me a couple of hours after the premiere. The next day, sitting down to grab a quick bite with Moore and Giamatti, that giddy feeling had not dissipated, …

Robert Pattinson in Primetime Is a Showstopper at Venice

During the extended ovation, the crowd, which included filmmakers like Ari Aster, Chloe Zhao and Mona Fastvold, cheered “Lance, Lance, Lance” and then, “Phoebe, Phoebe, Phoebe,” for her motion picture debut. Pattinson, for his part, could not stop running his hand through his hair and whispering excitedly to his nearby partner, Suki Waterhouse. Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse on September 5, 2026. TIZIANA FABI/Getty Images After the premiere, Waterhouse slipped out of her red carpet heels and into sensible loafers before the journey to the afterparty. A fleet of private water taxis provided by A24 met guests at the Hotel Excelsior—a main hub of the festival—to take them on a sunset boat ride to the St. Regis hotel, where the Primetime after-party was held. Bespoke Primetime hats were up for grabs that displayed the film’s name in English and Italian (Prima Serata), and guests sipped on Aperol spritzes and ate personal pizzas as the cast and crew arrived. At the after party, Oppenheim raised a toast to his editor, Mike Harkin, gathering the crowd inside …

Damien Chazelle’s La La Land Celebrates a Decade of Enchantment in Venice

Damien Chazelle’s La La Land Celebrates a Decade of Enchantment in Venice

Embarrassing or not, the result is truly incredible to watch. In keeping with an event celebrating a film from the past, Bucking Fastard made Kate look back at her own past—and her relationship with her sister and costar. “It’s interesting hearing your sibling’s perspective of what your childhood was like because I’m the older sibling with Rooney, but I’m also the younger sibling with my older brother,” says Kate. “She has a different perspective of what our dynamic was. But now as adults, I really look up to Rooney and I like to let her lead. I don’t know what she would say, but I definitely now as adults really let her lead and want her to lead in a lot of ways. But it’s impossible to ignore all of the family dynamics of an entire childhood, so a lot of that came into play.” If anything, working together forced the sisters to stop trying to distinguish themselves from one another and embrace just how similar they really are. “You spend a lifetime trying to …

Emmerdale reveals hidden element to Sadie King’s return scene – did you spot it?

Emmerdale has included an Easter egg for fans in Sadie King’s explosive return scene as Patsy Kensit has rejoined the soap after two decades. Kensit’s villainous Sadie has landed back in the Dales via helicopter – to mirror her exit scene back in 2006 – following Jimmy King’s sad death in the marquee crash. Now the soap has revealed a hidden clue in Sadie’s comeback scene in the form of a QR code sticker on the helicopter door. Taking to Twitter/X, the ITV soap has brought the QR code to the attention of fans who were too captivated by Sadie’s arrival to notice. “Did anyone scan?” Emmerdale asked in a post, accompanying the caption with a side-eye emoji for good measure. As it turns out, the QR code leads fans directly to the National Television Awards (NTAs) page to vote for Emmerdale at the UK’s big TV night. Meanwhile, viewers remain divided over Sadie’s shocking reappearance as she seems hellbent on making Nicola’s life miserable. In the aftermath of the deadly crash, Sadie has been …

Back to School Teen Social Scene

Back to School Teen Social Scene

As August concludes, many young people lament the return to another school year. Amidst readying themselves for the academic pressures of high school or college, they must also prepare for what tends to be a social shuffling of sorts, with new alliances, proximate friendships, and budding or broken romances. Whether they are extroverts ready to dive in or socially reticent, navigating a dynamic social landscape can feel like riding an emotional rollercoaster. For caring adults who love and feel invested in their kids’ well-being, it is hard to be a passive observer. There are ways parents can play a supportive role without riding the coaster alongside them. Developmental Considerations For parents of younger teens, observe their social interactions, both in person and online. Allow them to take their own steps to build strong social connections or avert negative peer influences. Practicing independently with parents close by sets them up for the next stage. As teens get older, parents observe fewer of their social interactions. By then, you want your teen to feel comfortable coming to …

Dave Franco Says Raunchy ‘Idiots’ Scene Is “Craziest Thing” He’s Done

Dave Franco Says Raunchy ‘Idiots’ Scene Is “Craziest Thing” He’s Done

If you’re an emerging director, chances are you’ll hear a word of encouragement from Dave Franco.  Jeremy Saulnier certainly did after the actor saw the filmmaker’s breakout self- and crowd-funded revenge thriller, Blue Ruin (2013), starring his childhood best friend Macon Blair. When Blair himself took a crack at the director’s chair a few years later, Franco also reached out to compliment his Sundance-winning I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. The Palo Alto native admits his generosity is partly motivated by a desire to get on talented directors’ radars for future roles, but it’s mainly about softening the industry’s competitiveness. “We don’t tell each other enough how much we enjoy each other’s work. There’s such a competitive spirit within the industry that I just want to put out some good vibes, especially if it’s someone’s first time putting out a movie,” Franco tells The Hollywood Reporter in support of Idiots’ Aug. 28 theatrical release. “So I guess I play the long game sometimes, but it doesn’t normally lead to collaboration. More often …

Collector Hasnaine Yavarhoussen Wants to Elevate Madagascar’s Art Scene

Collector Hasnaine Yavarhoussen Wants to Elevate Madagascar’s Art Scene

In 2019, just four nations mounted their debut pavilions at the Venice Biennale. Madagascar was one of them, and Hasnaine Yavarhoussen’s sponsorship was largely what made it possible. The year before, the Malagasy art collector and entrepreneur met with artist Joël Andrianomearisoa to discuss the country’s participation and his support. At the time of their meeting, Yavarhoussen had limited knowledge about Malagasy artists; his almost decade-old collection didn’t even include any artworks by them. But the chat with Andrianomearisoa, who splits his time between Paris and Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital, was so convincing that it led Yavarhoussen to help fund the inaugural Malagasy Pavilion. It also inspired Yavarhoussen to collect work by Malagasy artists and to make plans to provide long-term support for other artists from Madagascar. Related Articles “I was thinking: Okay, what would be the impact on Madagascar?” Yavarhoussen recalled in an interview about that pivotal meeting. A member of Tate’s Africa Acquisitions Committee, Yavarhoussen went on to found Fonds Yavarhoussen in 2019 with the goal of supporting and promoting Malagasy art and culture, …

Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend was at scene when she died, police report says | US News

Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend and his brother were on the scene when she died, according to Sky’s US partner NBC News, citing a police incident report. The Heroes and Nashville actress, who died on Sunday aged 36, was found in cardiac arrest by police at an apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina. Officers responded to a call made by an acquaintance, and the star was found “unresponsive” inside the residence where she had been temporarily staying, according to the coroner’s office. It said first responders tried to save Panettiere but their resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at 2.32pm local time (10.32pm UK time). In the heavily redacted report, the Greenville Police Department said former boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother, Zach Hickerson, were at the scene inside the Judson Mill Lofts complex. Matthew Bryan, the responding officer, said he spoke to Zach Hickerson first, who was “very emotional” while emergency medical services (EMS) were “working on Hayden”, according to the report.
