Scotland face Bolivia on Saturday night in their final friendly ahead of World Cup 2026. The Tartan Army face Haiti in their opener in June before battling it out with Morocco and Brazil in their other Group C games. Clarke’s side, who topped their qualifying group ahead of Denmark after winning four of their six outings, are making their first World Cup appearance since France 1998. Scotland have won just four of their 23 games in World Cup history and Clarke will be desperate to get his side out of the group for the first time ever. Bolivia, who are ranked 76th in the FIFA rankings, failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada after losing a play-off against Iraq. Scotland face Israel in their Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifier on Friday, with Melissa Andreatta’s side looking to maintain top spot in their group. Scotland, who are still unbeaten in qualifying after winning two and drawing two of their games, are top of Group B4 ahead of Belgium based on goal difference. Andreatta’s side, who made their World Cup debut at the 2019 tournament, are guaranteed a play-off place but they’ll be desperate to top the group to have better seeding for the next qualifying stages. Scotland face third-placed Israel twice in a matter of days and if they better Belgium’s two results against strugglers Luxembourg, they’ll top the group. Israel, who are ranked 65th in the FIFA rankings, lost their first two qualifiers before beating Luxembourg twice in the last international break to give them a small chance of catching Scotland and Belgium. Robert Wilson was jailed for eight years for sexually attacking two women (Image: Police Scotland) A vile sex offender who targeted a woman in a care home with a progressive brain disorder and raped another has been jailed for eight years. Rapist and former care worker Robert Wilson, 53, sexually assaulted Yvonne Carnie, 68, at an East Lothian residential home “on various occasions” between August 2022 and February 2023. Ms Carnie suffered from a progressive cerebral condition which affected her mobility was receiving care at the home when sick Wilson preyed on her. Ms Carnie died in 2025 before she could see her attacker brought to justice. Speaking outside court on Tuesday, her children said Wilson showed “calculated, predatory disregard” towards their mother “worsened by his lack of remorse and sickening denial”. A court found Wilson raped another woman in Tranent, East Lothian, in 2013. He was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on April 29, and on Tuesday at the same court he was jailed for eight years. Yvonne Carnie’s family said she …

The views are remarkable. From one window, gorse-gold hills roll west towards mountains patched with snow. On the other side, fields of new spring lambs slope down to a silver sea. Until March 2026, a single from Inverness to Scrabster on Scotland’s north coast was £28. Now, thanks to a new bus fare cap in Orkney, Highland and Moray, no journey in the area costs more than £2. A police officer has been found guilty of raping two women and subjecting a third to a campaign of violent abuse. Cameron Ross, 39, carried out his serious sexual assaults in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in 2012 and 2014. He then abused his third victim in Inverness between 2019 and 2022. Ross denied any wrongdoing but was found guilty on Monday following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh. Judge Alison Stirling denied the abuser bail and remanded him in custody ahead of sentencing on 2 July. Police Scotland said the force’s professional standards department will begin an investigation into gross misconduct upon the conclusion of the criminal proceedings. Chief Superintendent Helen Harrison said: “Ross’ actions go against everything Police Scotland stands for. “Our thoughts are with the victims in this case and I hope this conviction provides them with some measure of closure. “I commend their strength in reporting these crimes and bringing this individual to justice.” During the trial, jurors heard how Ross raped the first woman after they met …

As a travel editor, I’m always asked the same question: what are your favourite countries to visit? I’m met with bated breath as they anticipate my reply, expecting something quirky like Uzbekistan or glitzy like the Maldives. Rarely do they guess that the UK is an immovable fixture on my list of top three destinations in the world.  I didn’t board a plane or sleep in a hotel until I was 17 years old. Instead, my childhood was a flurry of caravan and camping holidays. The European People’s Party — the largest group in the chamber — is keen to get the trade deal on the books, and negotiators hope a majority will back it. Zeljana Zovko, the EPP lawmaker representing the center-right group in the negotiations, told POLITICO that the deal “will save our businesses and give them breathing space to continue trade with our most important trading partner.”  Failure by the Parliament to ratify the compromise would humiliate Bernd Lange, the chair of the chamber’s trade committee and the Parliament’s chief negotiator. Lange declared himself satisfied with the result despite the concessions. “We are ensuring stability and security for European manufacturers, fully aware that we cannot, of course, always guarantee that the U.S. will abide by the agreement,” he said. The German Social Democrat had assembled a broad coalition of lawmakers to demand that extra conditions be attached to the accord to shield the EU from Trump’s periodic attempts to coerce America’s longtime allies.
