TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday released a proposed redraw of the state’s congressional lines that, on paper, would create four new GOP-leaning seats — an aggressive proposal that the governor is using to try to challenge anti-gerrymandering language in the state Constitution. The Florida Legislature is set to begin a special session Tuesday to consider the maps, which are overwhelmingly expected to pass out of the GOP-dominated body, though even some Republicans have expressed annoyance about how DeSantis has handled the process. The map was first released to Fox News, which got a view of the new proposal before Florida lawmakers had a chance to see it. The release came in the form of a graphic that clearly outlined the political leaning of each seat in blue and red, which itself could cause legal heartburn because the Florida Constitution includes anti-gerrymandering language, known as Fair Districts, that prevents the use of partisan “intent.” The current congressional …

The More in Common study suggests Rachel Reeves, Wes Streeting and Yvette Cooper are among those who could be kicked out by voters at the next election. Labour leadership hopeful and former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner would also lose her seat, as would the likes of John Healey, Ed Miliband, Hilary Benn, Lisa Nandy, Pat McFadden, Jonathan Reynolds and Darren Jones. Although Keir Starmer would be re-elected in the traditionally safe Labour seat of Holborn and St Pancras, his majority would be slashed. Reform would win a staggering 324 seats – just short of an overall Commons majority – while the Greens would see their number of MPs quadruple to 21, the poll said. MANILA: Vietnam’s Communist Party won nearly 97 per cent of the 500 seats in the National Assembly, according to results released by the parliament on Mar 22, confirming its overwhelming dominance after a vote in which almost all candidates were fielded by the ruling party. The party’s 482-seat haul was roughly in line with the number it held in the outgoing parliament. Turnout at the five‑yearly elections for members of the parliament and for local councils exceeded 99 per cent, authorities have said, in line with past elections. The unicameral parliament has virtually no power to challenge the party’s key decisions, including on personnel, but it has occasionally amended proposed laws. The National Assembly is scheduled to hold its first weeks-long session from April 6. During that plenary, lawmakers are due to confirm new state leaders to be named by the party, including the prime minister and the president.
