Crossfire, the Debut Game From That’s No Moon, Seeks to Revolutionize Cover Shooters

Crossfire, the Debut Game From That’s No Moon, Seeks to Revolutionize Cover Shooters

Going back to play games released decades ago is a quaint experience, looking back at simpler mechanics and level designs, marveling at how far we’ve come. If developer That’s No Moon’s ambitions prove true, its new game, Crossfire, will have us looking at old cover shooters the same way. That’s No Moon revealed Crossfire at Summer Game Fest 2026’s trailer showcase — and yes, it is set in the same universe as the 2007 first-person shooter of the same name that was popular in South Korea and China. But the new version is a radical departure, ditching Counter-Strike-style team competition for a narrative-heavy single-player journey. Judging by the new technology the studio is debuting in the game, there’s far more than a novel story awaiting players. I joined other media in a visit to That’s No Moon’s office just north of Los Angeles International Airport. Part desk-filled work corral for the LA-based chunk of the roughly 230-person staff, part performance-capture studio for the stars of its game, the space feels functional but beloved. Facing the …

Ukraine under heavy drone attack as Zelensky seeks direct meeting with Putin

Russia fired hundreds of drones at Ukraine between late Thursday and early Friday, killing seven people and destroying a factory that produces milk products for children, authorities said. Moscow and Kyiv have intensified drone strikes on each other in recent months as US-led diplomatic efforts to end the war, now in its fifth year, remain stalled over the conflict in the Middle East. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a meeting with Vladimir Putin in an open letter to the Russian leader late Thursday, saying it was only the leaders who could resolve “key issues”. Bipartisan bill seeks federal gambling disorder study as betting spreads across the US

A bipartisan group of lawmakers wants the federal government to take a much closer look at gambling addiction as online sports betting continues to spread across the United States. Reps. Dan Goldman of New York and Blake Moore of Utah have introduced the Gambling Disorder Health Study Act, a proposal that would launch a comprehensive federal review of gambling disorder, including its causes, progression and long-term impacts. Researchers would also examine prevention efforts, treatment options and intervention strategies over multiple years. NCAA decision. Supporters of the bill say the number of jurisdictions with legal sports betting has climbed from a single operational state in 2017 to 39 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico by 2025. During that period, annual wagering volume grew from $4.7 billion to roughly $220 billion across sportsbooks …

Cyprus seeks to Farage-proof its UK military bases – POLITICO

Following the strike, President Nikos Christodoulides called for talks on the future of the “colonial” bases, with Cypriot diplomats expressing “disappointment” at the lack of information-sharing around the incident. It also reopened the issue of how Britain should be allowed to use the bases, with Cyprus calling on the support of fellow EU countries. In March, the European Council gathering EU leaders said it “acknowledges the intention of Cyprus to initiate a discussion with the UK on the UK bases in Cyprus and stands ready to provide assistance as needed.” Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides speaks to the media ahead of a European Council summit in Ayia Napa on April 23, 2026. | Nicolas Tucat/AFP via Getty Images Marc Weller, director of the international law program at Chatham House, said: “Cyprus argues that the U.K. only retained more limited authority relating to defense. While the U.K. view [of full sovereignty] is legally correct, the Iran episode will offer an opportunity for Cyprus to reignite this debate.” The Farage factor Cypriot concerns worsened after Farage initially backed …

(Photo by JAM STA ROSA / AFP via Getty Images) Jam Sta Rosa | Afp | Getty Images “Japan’s door to dialog is always open” to the international community even as it increases defense spending and revises its arms exports guidelines, according to defense minister Shinjiro Koizumi. Speaking at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Koizumi said that Tokyo has consistently respected international law, adding that “Japan’s path as a peace-loving nation has been valued by the region and by the international community. This fact will not be shaken by false claims because it is a fact.” He also said about accusations Japan is engaging in “neo-militarism” that there’s “nothing further from the truth.” China’s defense ministry on May 28 had called on the international community to jointly contain Japan’s “neo-militarism,” according to state media outlet Xinhua. Japan has recently taken steps to expand its defense posture, including lifting its ban on lethal arms exports and mulling changes to Article 9 of its …

DOJ seeks Judge Eleanor Ross recusal in Georgia election case

Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards U.S. District Court Judge Eleanor Ross confirmation hearing, May 14, 2014, Senate Judiciary Committee – C-Span C-Span The Department of Justice on Friday asked Georgia federal judge Eleanor Ross to recuse herself from a pending case involving election records, citing media reports identifying Ross as the same judge who was disciplined for attending a victory party for a district attorney’s campaign. The DOJ said that if Ross is that judge, “it creates the appearance of bias,” because the victory party would have been in May 2024 for Fulton County DA Fani Willis, who prosecuted President Donald Trump for an alleged conspiracy to overturn the results of his 2020 election loss in Georgia to former President Joe Biden. “A judge who attended a party celebrating the election of a Democrat best known for prosecuting a Republican President for alleged election interference cannot then preside over a case concerning that President’s efforts to ensure election integrity,” the DOJ said in the motion for Ross’ recusal, which was filed in U.S. District Court …

Postal Service seeks mail-in ballot voter lists after Trump order

A mail-in ballot featuring California’s Proposition 50 is seen in this illustration taken in Encinitas, California, U.S., October 21, 2025.  Mike Blake | Reuters The U.S. Postal Service proposed new rules Friday that would require states to provide voter-level data on mail-in ballots in federal elections, one day after a federal judge declined to immediately block President Donald Trump’s executive order tightening mail-in voting rules. The proposal would require states to submit to the Postal Service the names and addresses of voters receiving mail-in or absentee ballots, along with unique barcodes tied to each voter’s outbound and return ballot envelopes. USPS said the rule would help determine how many ballots were mailed and allow officials to compare that figure with the number of ballots returned to detect potential issues for further investigation. The rule would apply to general, special and runoff federal elections, but not primaries or ballots sent to military and overseas voters. The proposal shifts USPS from recommending ballot-mail practices to mandating them for federal elections. The rule would require official logos, tracking …

Iran beat Gambia as federation seeks FIFA clarity over visas

ANTALYA, Turkey, May 29 : Iran have asked FIFA to clarify when tournament visas will be issued following the relocation of their World Cup training camp from Arizona to Tijuana, a senior official from the Islamic Republic’s national football federation (FFIRI) said on Friday. The national team came from behind to beat Gambia 3-1 in a World Cup warm-up match in the Turkish city of Antalya, days after their tournament preparations were disrupted by a base camp relocation to Mexico following approval from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and FIFA. Iran are scheduled to play all three of their group matches in the United States but the team’s participation in the June 11 to July 19 tournament has been in question since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in late February. The relocation followed diplomatic friction and visa complications, with Iran now requiring cross-border clearance for their Group G matches against New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt in Los Angeles and Seattle. Mehdi Mohammadnabi, first vice president of FFIRI, told Reuters that Iran had written to FIFA …
