Uber surprised robotics company Serve by selling its entire stake

Uber has sold off its entire stake in Serve Robotics, the autonomous delivery robot company that spun out of the ride-hailing company more than five years ago. Uber made the disclosure in a regulatory filing that was first reported by Bloomberg. Uber’s exit from Serve Robotics has been brewing for at least a year, according to regulatory filings that show the company reduced its stake in 2025. Still, the final selloff came as a surprise to Serve, which learned about it once it was officially disclosed, according to a source familiar with the events. Uber could not be immediately reached for comment. The divestiture comes as the two once-tight companies have started to diverge on the business side. Serve got its start as Postmates X, the robotics division of the on-demand delivery startup Postmates that Uber acquired in 2020 for $2.65 billion. A year later, the division spun out as an independent company called Serve Robotics, a name taken from the autonomous sidewalk delivery bot that was developed and piloted by Postmates X. Uber not …

Sen. Bernie Moreno says former son-in-law Max Miller shouldn’t serve in Congress following abuse allegations

Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, said Sunday on X that his former son-in-law Rep. Max Miller “needs to seek professional help” and should not serve in Congress following domestic abuse allegations made by Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the senator’s daughter. “Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible,” Moreno said in a lengthy post to X, the first time he has discussed his daughter’s divorce and the allegations against Miller in depth. “As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help,” Moreno continued. “He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter.” The senator said in the post, “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them.” “He should not serve in the House of Representatives,” Moreno said. “I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he …

The best ice-cream makers in the UK for gelato, soft serve and sorbets – tested | Ice-cream and sorbet

I love a scoop or two of the good stuff, even more so when the mercury hits 30C and ice-cream starts feeling less like an indulgence and more like an essential survival tool. This is why owning an ice-cream maker has always made sense to me. I’ve been using the original Ninja Creami for years now, but before that I was spending a small fortune on gelato, fruity sorbets, frozen yoghurt and other such desserts from the frozen aisle. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. Some might argue that the best ice-cream makers are a luxury, but if you’re a true dessert devotee, I believe they can earn their keep in no time. A tub of Häagen-Dazs will set you back almost £6 nowadays, which is an expensive habit if you’re getting through a pot a week during the hottest months of the year. With your own ice-cream machine, you get an endless supply whenever you fancy it, and you can get …

The Hamptons Hedges, Trees, and Hydrangeas That Serve as Status Symbols Out East

The Hamptons Hedges, Trees, and Hydrangeas That Serve as Status Symbols Out East

Crape Myrtles Fact: Most trees bloom in the spring. Another fact: Most second (or third or fourth or, frankly, fifth) homeowners aren’t in the Hamptons until Memorial Day. So what’s a Hamptonite to do? Enter the crape myrtle. According to Linda Silich, landscape designer and one of the founders Groundworks Landscaping in East Hampton, the tree is becoming “ubiquitous in the Hamptons due to being one of the few trees that blooms in the summer that comes in white, pink, purple, and beautiful bark.” Trending in particular? The single-stem crape myrtle, which gives a more streamlined and elegant outdoor look. Even better than one crape myrtle are multiple. “They look really great to create a tunnel,” says Silich. How much does a crape myrtle cost? As with every plant, it depends on size and type. A medium-size tree (let’s say 14 feet) is around $800, although the one linked here isn’t a single stem. Prices for those are more in the $1,000 to $1,500 range (and that’s if you want to do the planting yourself—avoiding …

What happens inside a tennis player’s brain as they try to return a 148mph serve?

What happens inside a tennis player’s brain as they try to return a 148mph serve?

The fastest serve so far at this year’s Wimbledon tennis championships was struck by the Argentinian Thiago Agustín Tirante on the opening day. His serve of almost 148mph (238km/h) was still some way under the Wimbledon record of 153mph, set by Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in 2025. And despite Tirante giving his opponent less than a fifth of a second to play each serve, he lost the match in straight sets. Which means his rocket serves were successfully returned on lots of points. Our emerging understanding of how the human brain works can help explain how this feat is achieved. Whether you’re a player or a spectator, the ability to see a tennis ball travelling that quickly across the court is a marvel of human physiology. At nearly 150mph, the ball is travelling faster than anyone can watch it move. By the time your brain has processed the sight of the ball leaving the racket, it is already well on its way to the other end of the court. Yet professional tennis players return these …

Trump’s doctor says he is in excellent health and ‘fully fit’ to serve

Donald Trump’s physician says the president is in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief after a medical exam Tuesday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. A report from Dr. Sean Barbabella, released late Friday, says Trump underwent a CT scan and other heart imaging, along with cancer screenings and other preventative assessments carried out by 22 specialists. Trump, 79, said after the three-hour visit Tuesday that everything checked out “PERFECTLY.” The president weighed in at 238 pounds (108 kilograms), up 14 pounds (6 kg) from a medical exam in April 2025. His doctors gave him guidance on his diet, physical activity and weight loss, but concluded his “cognitive and physical performance are excellent.” With his 6-foot, 3-inch (1.9-meter) frame, Trump has a body mass index of 29.7. An index of 30 is considered by doctors to be obese. The report also documented bruising on Trump’s hands, explained as “minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking,” and said it was “a common and benign effect of aspirin therapy.” …

In his first encyclical, Pope Leo XIV says AI must serve humanity, not the powerful few

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — Pope Leo XIV took direct aim at the power of Big Tech in his first encyclical on Monday (May 25), warning that artificial intelligence risks widening inequality, weakening democracy and undermining what it means to be human. The document, titled “Magnifica Humanitas” (Magnificent Humanity), frames AI as the new industrial revolution and makes an appeal to “disarm AI” by removing it from military and economic interests, subjecting AI companies to stricter state and international regulations and inviting the broad participation of individuals and communities in shaping the future of this rapidly developing technology. “Disarming AI means freeing it from the mentality of ‘armed’ competition, which today is not limited simply to the military context, but is also an economic and cognitive phenomenon,” Leo wrote. “Disarming does not mean renouncing technology, but preventing it from dominating humanity,” he added. “For this reason, merely regulating it is insufficient; it must be disarmed, welcoming and accessible,” the document read. Leo also took on Big Tech in the document, highlighting the dangers of having a …

Damon joined Colin Jost’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Aziz Ansari’s FBI Director Kash Patel in a Washington, DC bar where the three bonded over drinks. “It’s nice to have my sneaky bar here where I’m not going to run into anyone from work, because none of Trump’s people like drinking as much as I do,” Jost’s Hegseth says just as Damon’s Kavanaugh busted through the bar crowd, still wearing his justice robe. The judge bangs his gavel on the bar and says: “Order! I find in favor of six Bud Lights and three shots of Jamo!” The barman, played by Kenan Thompson replies: “Yep, a 6-3 decision coming …
