Tampa Bay Rays Sign Veteran Reliever Craig Kimbrel to Shore up Bullpen

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays signed right-handed reliever Craig Kimbrel to a major league contract on Tuesday to shore up their bullpen. The Rays placed right-hander Jesse Scholtens on the 15-day injured list with a right wrist strain to make room for Kimbrel on the active roster. The New York Mets designated Kimbrel for assignment on Friday after the nine-time All-Star allowed 10 runs over 15 innings in 14 appearances. He signed a free agent contract with the team in January. The 37-year-old Kimbrel has 440 saves with 10 teams in his 17-year career. He won a World Series with Boston in 2018 and was the 2011 NL rookie of the year. The Rays have the AL’s best record at 34-17, but their bullpen’s ERA of 4.40 is 21st in the majors. Copyright 2026 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Flood risk continues in Hawaii as North Shore residents return to destroyed homes

Cleanup efforts were underway as locals came together to help displaced families returning to destroyed homes. Mac Burton, who lives in Wailua Beach, went out into the streets of the North Shore community Sunday to help his neighbors. Cleanup, he said, is going to take months. “Anything that was, you know, 4 feet or below, it is just completely wiped out,” he said. Mac Burton recorded flooding in his neighborhood in Waialua, on Oahu, on Friday morning.Mac Burton Burton said that many homes still have standing water in them and that even when the water level goes down, they’re left with “a ton of mud.” Wood homes that are still standing will face mold and water damage, he said. “Everyone’s kind of in the street, just shoveling out mud and pulling out soaking debris and doing whatever they can to kind of start drying things out,” he said. “But we’re still without power here, so it’s making some of those efforts a little more difficult.” Burton was awake when the flooding began early Saturday. Vancouver Art Museum Announces Major Gift of Stephen Shore Photographs

The Vancouver Art Gallery announced this week that it has received a gift of more than 800 works from American photographer Stephen Shore’s series “Uncommon Places.” The donation comes from the Vancouver-based Chan family, which has long supported the museum. Taken on road trips across North America between 1973 and 1981 and originally published as a book, “Uncommon Places” is considered a landmark in the history of contemporary photography. The series consists of color pictures of quotidian places and objects that, along with the work of William Eggleston and others, helped establish the legitimacy of color in fine art photography. Widely exhibited at the time, the series was also an influence on younger photographers such as Andreas Gursky, who encountered Shore’s work while in school. By the time he began making color work in the 1970s, Shore had already had a remarkable career. At age six, he received a darkroom setup from a relative; at age 14, the Museum of Modern Art bought three of his pictures. Between 1965 and 1967, while still a teenager, …

Whatever it takes? EU in race to shore up sovereignty – The Debate

Can Europe man the ramparts on its own? As the US war secretary snubbed a NATO defence ministers’ meeting in Brussels, EU leaders converged on the 16th-century Alden Biesen castle in Belgium’s Limburg province to answer former Italian prime minister Mario Draghi’s call for a “big bazooka” approach to reform and competitiveness.  But behind the walls of the one-time headquarters of the Knights of the Teutonic Order lies a rift: between France, which is pushing a “Buy European” approach to strategic autonomy; and a converging German-Italian couple, which is more focused on lightening regulation and striking new trade deals.  Read moreEU leaders back major economic overhaul to counter pressure from US, China and Russia How much of a sense of urgency is there when it comes to safeguarding strategic industries, energy, defence and financing of the 27-member EU’s needs?
