Teenage girl raped as she slept by evil baby-faced 19-year-old | UK | News

A 19-year-old has been jailed after sexually assaulting and raping a teenage girl as she slept. Ryan Upton, of Moorland Road, Sandbach, Cheshire, pleaded guilty to rape and assault by penetration. Upton and the victim had been at an address in Crewe on Boxing Day 2024 when he had sexually assaulted her while she was asleep, Cheshire Constabulary said. Upton also raped the victim who fled from the address following the assault. A passer-by found the victim who helped her to call the police. Upton was then arrested but in an interview with investigators, denied the offences. However forensic tests provided a positive DNA match for Upton who was then charged with the crimes which he later admitted in court. DC Sallis, of Cheshire Constabulary, said: “This lengthy custodial sentence reflects the severity of what Upton did – something which he ultimately had no choice but to admit due to the strength of the forensic evidence against him. “We would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for reporting this offence …

Feeling like you slept poorly might take a heavier toll on new parents than actual sleep loss

Feeling like you slept poorly might take a heavier toll on new parents than actual sleep loss

A new study published in Sleep Health: Journal of the National Sleep Foundation suggests that depression and anxiety may play a growing role in sleep problems among new parents, particularly as their baby gets older. Becoming a parent is often described as one of life’s most joyful experiences, but it can also be exhausting. Frequent night wakings, feeding schedules, and the stress of caring for a newborn can disrupt sleep for months. Previous research has long shown that poor sleep and mental health issues like depression and anxiety are linked, but most studies have focused solely on mothers and the early weeks after birth. Researchers wanted to better understand how sleep and mental health influence each other over time and whether the same patterns apply to fathers. Led by Avel Horwitz and Liat Tikotzky of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, the research team followed 232 couples from late pregnancy through their baby’s first year. Participants reported on their sleep and mental health during pregnancy (the third trimester) and again when their baby was …

Vivid dreams trick your brain into thinking you slept well

Vivid dreams trick your brain into thinking you slept well

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. Picture your perfect morning wake-up. Your eyes flutter open, the sun is gently streaming in through the window, and you actually feel rested from the night before instead of groggy. That sensation of getting a really good night’s sleep comes from more than just the recommended seven to nine hours of shut eye. It’s also up to our perception of how deeply we slept without interruption. And dreams may be the key to that perception. Our dreams—particularly the more vivid and immersive ones—could help us feel like our sleep was deeper and restorative. Instead of tiring us out, all of that dreaming may make us feel more rested, according to a study published today in the journal PLOS Biology.  Deep sleep is often thought of as the brain being more “switched off,” with slower brain waves, little activity, and no awareness of the outside world. In this school of thought, the deeper the sleep, the less active the brain.  …

Drug dealer admits killing vulnerable former chef who slept beside dogs | UK News

A drug dealer has admitted beating a vulnerable former chef to death after allegedly forcing him to sleep beside dogs. The body of Dimitrios Tsavdaris, 55, was found in the foetal position inside a “cuckoo” flat in Hackney, north London, after weeks of violent attacks, the Old Bailey was previously told. He had been taken there from the home of Bamidele Fawehinmi in Wickford, Essex, where he allegedly slept on a mattress in a garage beside American pitbull cross-breed dogs. The victim was a frail “vulnerable person”, weighing just over eight stone, who may have been dead or dying for several days before his body was discovered on 29 January 2024, jurors heard. He had sustained multiple fractures to his ribs, face and breastbone, as well as internal injuries and old and new bleeding on the brain. On Thursday, partway through his retrial at the Old Bailey, Fawehinmi, 33, from Haringey, north London, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm. He was remanded into custody to be sentenced on 8 May. Read more …

Watch: Tech Entrepreneur Claims His AI Agent Built Itself A Face While He Slept

In what could mark a new milestone in the evolving saga of personal AI agents, social media entrepreneur Alex Finn claimed on Tuesday that his self-hosted Clawdbot autonomously designed and animated a visual representation of itself, complete with an animated owl body, while he slept. The clip depicts an owl-bodied figure moving across a persistent on-screen interface, responding to delegated tasks and spawning subagents as additional animated characters when the system distributes work. “Last night while I was sleeping my ClawdBot Henry built himself a face,” Finn wrote on X. “Without me asking, he built an entire visual interface for himself so I can watch him work.” He described the always-on display – running on a secondary monitor – as making the AI feel like “a coworker/friend,” providing real-time visibility into its activities. Ok this is wild. Last night while I was sleeping my ClawdBot Henry built himself a face Without me asking, he built an entire visual interface for himself so I can watch him work Now whenever I give him tasks his Owl …

The 13 best hybrid mattresses for every sleep style, slept on and tested by experts

The 13 best hybrid mattresses for every sleep style, slept on and tested by experts

Score: 9/10 We like: Unparalleled combination of bounce, support, comfort and heat regulation We don’t like: The eye-watering price Reviewed by Simon Lewis Most hybrid mattresses have 1,000 to 2,000 springs and a few layers of different foams. This one contains 7,300 springs, five layers of foam and various temperature-controlling natural materials. There are 11 layers in total, which might sound like overkill, but once you’ve slept on it, other hybrids seem like works in progress. So, what do they all do? Well, the base is basically an entire pocket-sprung mattress in its own right, and it’s what gives the Ultra its bounce. Above that are a layer of smaller springs and two layers of yet smaller micro-springs arranged to support the hips and shoulders. Other hybrid mattresses claim this kind of contouring, but the Ultra is the first where I can feel it; I have a bad back and this helps align my spine, reducing pain. Another function of the micro-springs is to stabilise the edges. There’s no droop at the sides, so you …

Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Sleep Plan: He Slept Two Hours a Day for Two Years & Felt “Vigorous” and “Alert”

Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Sleep Plan: He Slept Two Hours a Day for Two Years & Felt “Vigorous” and “Alert”

One potential drawback of genius, it seems, is restlessness, a mind perpetually on the move. Of course, this is what makes many celebrated thinkers and artists so productive. That and the extra hours some gain by sacrificing sleep. Voltaire reportedly drank up to 50 cups of coffee a day, and seems to have suffered no particularly ill effects. Balzac did the same, and died at 51. The caffeine may have had something to do with it. Both Socrates and Samuel Johnson believed that sleep is wasted time, and “so for years has thought grey-haired Richard Buckminster Fuller,” wrote Time magazine in 1943, “futurific inventor of the Dymaxion house, the Dymaxion car and the Dymaxion globe.” Engineer and visionary Fuller intended his “Dymaxion” brand to revolutionize every aspect of human life, or—in the now-slightly-dated parlance of our obsession with all things hacking—he engineered a series of radical “lifehacks.” Given his views on sleep, that seemingly essential activity also received a Dymaxion upgrade, the trademarked name combining “dynamic,” “maximum,” and “tension.” “Two hours of sleep a day,” …
