“Everything is soaked”: Hawaii residents return to flood-ravaged homes

“Everything is soaked”: Hawaii residents return to flood-ravaged homes

As floodwaters begin to recede on Oahu, residents are returning home to assess the damage and, in many cases, what’s been lost. Officials lifted evacuation orders across parts of the island’s North Shore, including Waialua and Hale’iwa, after fears over the aging Wahiawa Dam eased and water levels dropped. But the return has revealed the storm’s full impact: homes pushed off foundations, streets still partially submerged, and families sifting through mud-soaked belongings in search of anything salvageable. In communities like Laie, the destruction has been especially severe. Local officials estimate roughly 100 homes were damaged overnight as floodwaters surged through neighborhoods, filling garages and living spaces with debris. Residents described water rising to waist level in just hours — overwhelming properties that had never flooded before and leaving behind a thick layer of mud and debris. Rescue efforts during the storm underscored the scale of the crisis. More than 230 people were pulled from dangerous conditions statewide, while crews conducted dramatic rooftop evacuations at the height of the flooding. The United States Coast Guard, working …

Nostradamus’ chilling predictions for 2026 revealed – ‘soaked in blood’ | World | News

Nostradamus’ chilling predictions for 2026 revealed – ‘soaked in blood’ | World | News

French prophet Nostradamus continues to provide insights into potential future events. This year is no exception. The 16th-century seer predicted a number of alarming incidents that could unfold before our eyes. Nostradamus composed all his predictions in mysterious quatrains, which contained the destiny of global events. Many featured in his 1555 work ‘The Prophecies’, which included no fewer than 942 quatrains. The specific quatrain reads: “Seven months great war, people dead through evil/ Rouen, Evreux the King will not fail.” It’s easy to connect this verse to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Some claim Nostradamus predicted warfare in the past, with his line “Within two cities, there will be scourges the like of which was never seen”. This supposedly predicted the atomic bombs America detonated on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War Two. Amongst Nostradamus’ more peculiar predictions, this passage reads “The great swarm of bees will arise by the night ambush”. Some suggest this could happen this year as the passage correlates to the number …

‘I’m thinking of building an ark’: the Cornish village soaked by 41 consecutive days of rain | UK weather

‘I’m thinking of building an ark’: the Cornish village soaked by 41 consecutive days of rain | UK weather

“I’m thinking of building an ark,” said Sarah Cowen, an artist and cafe owner. “It’s been horrendous. We’ve never known anything like it. The mud, the silt, the endless rain.” Cowen is one of a hardy, if soggy, bunch who live or work in and around the parish of Cardinham, on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, which has endured 41 consecutive days of rain – and counting. “This is definitely global warming. You get either baking sun or continuous rain,” Cowen said. The locals don’t have to look at the weather forecast here at the moment. “You know it’s going to be rain,” Cowen said. The Met Office revealed this week that Cardinham was one of three places in the UK that had had 40 days of rain in a row. The other two are North Wyke, a little farther east in Devon, and Astwood Bank in Worcestershire. Feel like the rain hasn’t stopped? ☔ For some places, it really hasn’t! 😦 North Wyke, Cardinham and Astwood Bank have recorded rain every single …
