SXSW London’s Art Program Spotlights Spain’s ‘Underrated’ Art Scene

SXSW London’s Art Program Spotlights Spain’s ‘Underrated’ Art Scene

South by Southwest (SXSW) London returns for its second edition next week, taking over more than 20 venues clustered around the Trueman Brewery in Shoreditch. Known for its mix of technology, business, and music, and its focus on navigating global uncertainty, this year’s festival will also spotlight five visual artists exploring how technology is reshaping the creative industries. After launching in Austin, Texas, in 1987 as a music industry conference and festival, SXSW has grown into a massive global event. While still centered in Austin, London became its first European edition last year. Related Articles Titled “Spain in Transmission: New Digital Work,” the art program at the London event is curated by Patrick Moore, the former director of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Five artists are involved: Enrique Agudo, Filip Custic, Jesús Moratiel, and Marina Núñez — all from Spain — while American artist Molly Gochman is bringing her Dispersed Geographies installation from the streets of New York to London. Each has created work that interrogates themes of identity, borders, humanity, and memory. Moore, who is …

Iran Conflict Spotlights Nuclear Energy As Key To Global Energy Security

Iran Conflict Spotlights Nuclear Energy As Key To Global Energy Security

The ongoing disruptions tied to Iran’s energy infrastructure and the Strait of Hormuz, have once again exposed the fragility of global oil supplies. As oil prices swing on geopolitical headlines, the founder and executive chairman of Nano Nuclear Energy, Jay Yu, underscored the critical alternative during a recent Fox Business appearance: nuclear power offers “consistent baseload energy”, while oil remains “a finite commodity” vulnerable to conflict. Jay Yu emphasized that the current spotlight on nuclear is drawing “institutional investors, and venture capital money is pouring in”. This renewed focus extends beyond immediate headlines to next-generation technologies. On what he described as a historic day for the company, Nano submitted its construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the KRONOS MMR microreactor, which is the first commercial-ready micro reactor to reach this milestone in the nation and one of only a handful of Generation IV designs to do so. Energy security has emerged as a pressing concern amid the Iran conflict, complementing the well-documented power demands from the AI-driven data center boom. Yet …

Wisconsin judicial race spotlights state GOP’s struggles

Wisconsin judicial race spotlights state GOP’s struggles

Wisconsin Republicans are bracing for a lopsided state Supreme Court race next week, as liberals are all but expected to expand their majority. It underscores how the state GOP has struggled to compete in critical elections over nearly the last decade.  Democratic-backed judicial candidate Chris Taylor leads the conservative favorite, Maria Lazar, in recent polling, and Taylor’s campaign… Source link

Asia Pacific Maritime 2026 spotlights next-energy technologies and innovation

Asia Pacific Maritime 2026 spotlights next-energy technologies and innovation

Asia has become a strategic crossroads in energy transition. The region is home to major shipbuilding nations, emerging electric vessel markets, offshore operators, energy exporters, classification societies and financial centres – all the players needed to take next‑energy technologies from concept to open water. The region is also where some of the first commercial-scale electrification and hybridisation projects are being launched. For example, the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA) – a Singapore-based industry initiative aimed at decarbonising the maritime industry – has delivered Voltai, Singapore’s largest electric supply boat, and is pioneering a milk run trial designed to consolidate deliveries and reduce emissions.  Additionally, CSA is delivering its second e-vessel: Singapore and Southeast Asia’s first fully electric tug. Insights from these CSA projects, ongoing trials and critical enablers for scaling marine electrification will be highlighted at APM 2026. The conference will feature close to 100 industry experts who will speak on practical solutions that can optimise vessel operation. The keynote session, The Maritime State of Play and What’s Next for Asia, will examine how new regional …

You’re probably not using Spotlight’s best features

You’re probably not using Spotlight’s best features

My experience with macOS Tahoe has been bittersweet. For starters, “Liquid Glass” is a dud — the name and the visual design. The first thing I did after upgrading was to make my Mac as less liquid-glassy as possible. But, I appreciate the love Apple has so kindly bestowed upon Spotlight — macOS’ default search utility. Indeed, it was high time Spotlight got a revamp: the tool had more or less remained the same since its introduction in macOS X 10.4 Tiger in 2005. In macOS Tahoe, Spotlight search is faster and more flexible than ever. If you’re still rocking a third-party search app on your Mac, it’s probably because you aren’t using Spotlight’s full potential. Navigate between apps and files seamlessly Seek and ye shall actually find One of my major qualms with Spotlight was how the search results mixed in apps, filenames, and associated files. Many a time, this inadvertently made me open an associated file instead of the app I wanted. Thankfully, Spotlight in macOS Tahoe makes it easier to switch between …

Corsican nationalist’s assassination spotlights criminals’ grip on island

Corsican nationalist’s assassination spotlights criminals’ grip on island

Alain Orsoni in Paris, May 1, 2006. STÉPHANE LAVOUÉ/PASCO&CO The latest murder is irrefutable evidence of the criminal grip on Corsica and a spectacular challenge to the authorities tasked with maintaining order. While the entire judicial hierarchy and the highest-ranking police and gendarmerie officials on the island gathered on Monday, January 12, in Bastia for the formal opening of a new appeals court, Alain Orsoni, a key figure in the island’s nationalist history, was killed at his mother’s funeral in the family village of Vero, in the south of the island. The newly created National Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime immediately joined the case, alongside the Marseille-based interregional force specializing in the fight against criminal gangs. Shortly after 4:30 pm, before the gathered family, the priest was conducting the final rites of Orsoni’s mother’s burial. Then, according to Ajaccio Prosecutor Nicolas Septe, Orsoni stepped slightly aside before suddenly collapsing. The prosecutor said the victim had been fatally shot from a long distance of “several hundred meters” and that only one bullet appeared to have been …
