Strange New Worlds Season 4 Trailer, Premiere Date Revealed

It’s a bold new world for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the series prepares to launch season four. The team behind the Paramount+ show hit the CCXP Mexico stage on Saturday to reveal that the fourth season premiere will debut globally on July 23. The 10-episode season rolls out weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 24 for the series that was last seen with the season three finale that began streaming in September. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds castmembers Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding and Paul Wesley announced the return date and debuted the new season’s teaser trailer in front of a packed auditorium at the annual event in Mexico City. Anson Mount leads the series as Capt. Christopher Pike, while Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn and Carol Kane round out the cast. “It’s a form of escapism,” Wesley said in explaining the enduring appeal of the Star Trek franchise and its optimism. “It’s a form of us believing in that kind of future.” The crowd was clearly thrilled …

The Star Trek Communicator Is Now a High-End Wristwatch

The Star Trek Communicator Is Now a High-End Wristwatch

After the damp squib that was Rolex’s anniversary celebration at this year’s Watches and Wonders in Geneva (maybe Rolex will bring back the Milgauss in 2027?), we started to worry that truly WIRED timepieces would be few and far between this year. Then we found the Retrovision ’64 by Hautlence. Clearly channeling none other than Captain Kirk, the high-end Swiss brand has turned Star Trek’s iconic Communicator into a full-on luxury wristwatch—and we’re very much here for it. Fans of the ’60s sci-fi series will be delighted to recognize the characteristic cover and perforated grille, which, oh yes, flips up to reveal the watch workings underneath. However, despite the light-hearted design cues, those workings very much lean into serious horology. The Retrovision ’64 is a high-end wristwatch masquerading as a Star Trek communicator. Inside the retro-futuristic case beats an in-house caliber equipped with a linear jumping hour mechanism developed in collaboration with Geneva-based artisan …

‘Project Hail Mary’ Author Andy Weir Takes a Shot at ‘Star Trek’

‘Project Hail Mary’ Author Andy Weir Takes a Shot at ‘Star Trek’

The author of Project Hail Mary is firing a photon torpedo at Paramount+’s Star Trek efforts. Bestselling writer Andy Weir criticized modern Trek shows while on the Critical Drinker podcast last week, and even revealed he pitched a Trek show that was shot down by Paramount. The topic began with the podcast’s host, Matthew Marsden, saying how refreshing the box office hit Project Hail Mary has been, especially for audiences who grew up on Star Trek and now suffer from “a lack of” such sci-fi efforts nowadays. “Yeah, I saw a … I forgot who it was — I wish I could remember who it was who said it, some analyst — he said something like: ‘All modern science fiction TV shows and movies have been heavily influenced by the original Star Trek — except for the current batch of Star Trek shows,’” Weir said. Marsden replied, “Yes!” and they both laughed. At first, Weir left that comment open to interpretation, but then added, “I’m Gen X, so my sci-fi was like original series Star Trek …

William Shatner Reacts to Stephen Miller Complaint Over Woke Star Trek

William Shatner Reacts to Stephen Miller Complaint Over Woke Star Trek

William Shatner had a fascinating response to Stephen Miller‘s suggestion that the star’s insight was needed to improve the Star Trek franchise. Last week, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy shared a post from the X account End Wokeness that featured a viral clip of new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The clip showed castmembers Tricia Black (playing Lt. Rork), Gina Yashere (Lura Thok) and Holly Hunter (Nahla Ake), and the End Wokeness post added the message, “Star Trek 2026… Beyond parody…,” seemingly reflecting unhappiness over the performers’ looks. Miller wrote, “Tragic. But it’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise. Step 1: Reconcile with @WilliamShatner and give him total creative control.” On Monday, Shatner responded by joking about the supposed problem with the scene, focusing on the fact that Hunter’s character uses glasses. “I am so on the same page with you @StephenM !” the 94-year-old star wrote. “The fact that they have not cure Hyperopia by the 32rd Century is an abysmal oversight on the writers!” The actor …

Holly Hunter in Paramount+ Show

Holly Hunter in Paramount+ Show

You can hardly blame the young leads of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy for being chaotic. They’re essentially first-year college students, most of them adjusting to life away from their home planets for the first time and figuring out who they want to become. Confused and inconsistent is exactly what they’re supposed to be at this stage. You can, on the other hand, certainly blame the Paramount+ show itself for being messy. Created by Gaia Violo, the series is a hybrid of sci-fi spectacle and teen drama that’s admirable in its ambitions but shaky in its execution, at least in the first six hours (of 10) sent to critics. But much like Starfleet’s brightest cadets, it’s too full of charm and promise to dismiss outright. You just hope to see it live up to its full potential someday. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy The Bottom Line A cast worth following to the ends of the galaxy. Airdate: Thursday, Jan. 15 (Paramount+)Cast: Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Zoë Steiner, Gina Yashere, …
