Stargate legend reveals why they won’t be part of the new reboot
As beloved sci-fi franchise Stargate approaches its next iteration with a new Amazon MGM Studios series in the works, Richard Dean Anderson – who has played Jack O’Neill across multiple series and one film – has spoken about why he won’t be involved. Anderson appeared at Metz’Torii convention in France, where he was asked about the new series, which was confirmed to be in development in November 2025. Anderson said of the new project: “I talked to Brad Wright, who was the exec producer of my Stargate, and he talked to me about the new one. The new producers, the new owners, want to have their own entity with that franchise name attached to it. So, they’ll have all-new characters. “They haven’t asked me to be a part of it. I’m glad they’re not putting me on the spot to make it awkward to say, possibly, no. But, yeah, it’s different, it’s a new one. I’m the old guy.” Richard Dean Anderson.
