Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are being bankrolled by King Charles – is it time they start paying rent?

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have found themselves unwillingly in the spotlight again, following the release of a new report by the National Audit Office into the royal family’s residential property arrangements. The report uncovered the shocking detail that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the King’s disgraced brother, was subletting his properties at Royal Lodge and gaining an undisclosed private income. It’s understood the rent Andrew received was to cover the maintenance and running costs of the sublets, and he did not make a profit; as the leaseholder, he was allowed to do that. But the revelation has prompted fresh outcry over the benefits Andrew had, while only paying peppercorn rent on his 30-room Windsor mansion. WATCH: Has the King been bankrolling Beatrice and Eugenie? The King’s rental agreement with Beatrice and Eugenie What was also laid bare in the report, however, was that Andrew’s daughters, Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36 – two non-working members of the royal family who have their own careers, second homes in the Cotswolds and Portugal respectively, and are married to wealthy husbands …

Powerful Iran-backed militias in Iraq say they will start handing in weapons to authorities

IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — Two of Iraq’s most powerful Iran-backed militias said on Tuesday they would begin handing in their weapons to the authorities, a major step in the new government’s effort to rein in militias that have long operated on their own even though they were nominally under state command. One of the groups, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, said it had formed a committee to oversee the move, inventory its fighters, weapons and equipment, and coordinate with the commander-in-chief of Iraq’s armed forces. It cast the decision as a response to calls by Iraq’s top Shiite religious authority and the Iran-aligned Coordination Framework, the largest bloc in Parliament that dominates Iraqi politics. The second group, the Imam Ali Brigades, made a similar announcement saying the time has come “to build a strong state with full sovereignty.” It added that its aim was now to have weapons only with the state and help boost state institutions. The war in the Middle East, which the United States and Israel launched on Feb. 28 with strikes on Iran, …

Why you need to future proof your brain in middle age and how to start

Why you need to future proof your brain in middle age and how to start

To chart how our brains change over the course of our lives, neuroscientists have focused largely on beginnings and endings: the rapid development and pruning of neural connections in childhood and adolescence, and the degeneration associated with old age. “We kind of skipped over middle age,” says Sebastian Dohm-Hansen, a bioinformatician at University College Cork in Ireland. There are good reasons for that, not least that changes in brain structure and function are easier to spot with neuroimaging when they are at their most extreme. In the case of cognitive decline and dementia, “a lot of what we care about presents most dramatically after the age of 60”, says Dohm-Hansen. But over the past few years, researchers have started to look more closely at the middle-aged brain, identifying a series of subtle but significant changes between the ages of 40 and 65 that mark it out as a vital time to identify problems that won’t manifest until later in life. “Think of midlife as the top of an inverted U-curve,” says Ahmad Hariri, a professor of neuroscience at Duke University …

If Your Partner Doesn’t Trust You, These 5 Things Usually Start Happening Pretty Often

If you’ve been with your partner for a while, your greatest hope is that they can learn to trust and depend on you. So, when this isn’t the case, it can be like a stab to the heart.  But before you get ahead of yourself, are you actually sure your partner feels like they can’t trust you? How do you know it’s not all in your head? Couples counselor Deborah Krevalin revealed the five signs your partner doesn’t trust you and what it means about your relationship. If you’re a walker and want to start running, a physical therapist gives his best advice on how to make the change

If you’re a walker and want to start running, a physical therapist gives his best advice on how to make the change

The transition from walking to running might sound easy—it’s the same movement, but faster, right? However, the physiological load, injury risk and energy required are significantly higher when you run than when you walk. Catch Hurst, a board-certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy with ATI Physical Therapy, says that rather than leaping from a walk to a run, you should aim to build a bridge between the two activities. Latest Videos From You may like “If someone has only been walking, I would not have them jump straight into a 20-minute run,” he says. “I’d keep the habit familiar and just add small pieces of running into the walk. “Walking breaks are not a sign you are bad at running. They are one of the best tools we have to build running tolerance without overloading the body.” He explains that the crux of the issue is not whether you can run. It’s about how well you recover after running. Start your week with achievable workout ideas, health tips and wellbeing advice in your inbox. “Mild …
