Peter Thiel’s Husband Sued a Flight Attendant Who Says He Assaulted Her on a Private Jet

Peter Thiel’s Husband Sued a Flight Attendant Who Says He Assaulted Her on a Private Jet

The private jet Peter Thiel and his family were using had two bathrooms, but somehow, on July 13, 2024, neither was readily available. One in the back of the jet was stuffed with luggage. The other, according to one court filing, was being used to store cooler bags with food and kitchen equipment. What happened next has become the subject of a federal lawsuit featuring claims of an alleged assault as well as disputes over workers’ compensation and whether a confidentiality agreement can stop a former flight attendant from suing the husband of one of the planet’s richest people. Stefanie Bojar, the flight attendant at the center of the dispute, was employed by Solairus Aviation—which did not immediately respond to a request for comment—but had worked more than 200 flights for Thiel and his husband, Matthew Danzeisen. On that July flight, Bojar says, Danzeisen—who is also the head of private investments at Thiel Capital—shoved her aside and threw multiple heavy cooler bags at her, knocking her into the aircraft wall and leaving her collapsed on …

Daily Mail sued over ‘systematic’ lifting of social media images

Daily Mail publishes picures from social media credited to the platform they appeared on. The Daily Mail is being sued over alleged “systematic” lifting of “thousands” of images from social media without permission or payment. A photographer named Matthew Moore who said one of his own images had been taken without permission has launched a class action lawsuit in New York on behalf of himself and anyone else in the US who has been affected in the past three years. The legal complaint calls this behaviour “standard practice” at the Daily Mail and is seeking a declaration that it violates US copyright law. The legal complaint alleges that lawyers found 107 articles that contained at least one photo that had been taken from social media with only a credit to the platform (for example © Instagram) over the course of just nine days in June. It claims that assuming a payment of between $2,500 and $25,000 per violation of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, this rate of alleged infringement would open the Daily Mail …

Kylie Jenner sued: Chef claims grueling shifts led to miscarriage

Kylie Jenner sued: Chef claims grueling shifts led to miscarriage

Less than two months after being sued by two former housekeepers, Kylie Jenner has been hit with a third workplace lawsuit. The beauty mogul’s former private chef alleges a grueling workload led to her miscarriage. Filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the complaint alleges the woman routinely worked 11- to 12-hour shifts, five days a week, and was assigned physically demanding tasks despite alerting supervisors to her high-risk pregnancy. A representative for Jenner did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment. According to the filing, reviewed by The Times, the woman was told she was selected to work as Jenner’s private chef around Thanksgiving 2024. In early December 2024, the woman claims she informed her supervisors, also named as defendants, that she was three months pregnant and “required reasonable accommodations to protect her health and pregnancy.” On New Year’s Eve in 2024, supervisors who had allegedly been hostile with the former chef directed her to “lift and transport heavy food items across the street and uphill without assistance,” the documents say. As …

Supreme Court says ex-LAPD officer may be sued for excessive force in street shooting

Supreme Court says ex-LAPD officer may be sued for excessive force in street shooting

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court refused Monday to block an excessive force lawsuit against a former Los Angeles Police Department officer who shot and killed a knife-wielding man whose speeding truck had slammed into several cars near downtown Los Angeles. The court turned down an appeal petition from the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, over the objections of Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. Litigation over the six-second shooting incident has extended over six years. Federal judges in California agreed that Officer Toni McBride had reason to fire four shots at the suspect in April 2020 but not the two final shots that killed him. Daniel Hernandez was alleged to be under the influence of methamphetamine when he got out of his truck and walked toward the officer. She repeatedly ordered him, “Drop the knife,” as he approached. But the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, by a 6-5 vote, ruled last year that a jury could decide the officer went too far when she fired two final shots after the suspect had fallen to the …

Anthropic Sued Over Alleged False Advertising on Claude Max Subscription Usage Limits

Anthropic Sued Over Alleged False Advertising on Claude Max Subscription Usage Limits

The artificial intelligence company Anthropic is facing a newly proposed class action lawsuit alleging it’s misleading subscribers about plan usage limits for Claude. Claude is an AI assistant designed for coding, writing, research and data analysis.  The suit alleges that the actual rate limits imposed on subscribers to the two most expensive paid tiers, the Max 5x and Max 20x, are far below what the company advertises. Usage limits, according to Anthropic, refer to how much users can work with Claude during a specific window of time, like a “conversation budget.”  The complaint argues that the real usage cap for the 20x, which costs $200 per month and promises 20 times the usage cap of the Pro package, amounts to “just six to eight times the usage of Pro.” The Max 5x plan, which costs $100 per month, purportedly delivers “just three-and-a-half times the usage of Pro” instead of the promised five times. The Claude Pro subscription tier costs between $17 and $20 per month.  The plaintiff, Karl Khan, filed the suit in the US District Court …

Chinese cybercrime operation that used AI to scam ‘hundreds of thousands of victims’ sued by Google

Google is suing to dismantle the infrastructure behind an alleged massive AI-powered cybercrime operation. On Friday, the tech giant announced a lawsuit against an alleged Chinese cybercrime network called Outsider Enterprise, which Google says uses AI in its campaigns to send scam text messages impersonating Google and other brands to steal passwords and credit card numbers.  Outsider Enterprise has financially scammed “hundreds of thousands of victims” with losses “estimated in the millions.” The group deployed 9,000 fake websites, one million fraudulent web domains, and 2.5 million texts sent to Android users in a two-week period, according to Google.  The company said, “55,000 spam texts were flagged by Android users in just two weeks this past May — that’s more than two text spam complaints a minute.” Google said it uses “AI-powered tools to fight AI-powered scams,” which enable the company to detect scams and alert users of suspicious calls and text messages, leading to the interception of more than 10 billion scam messages a month.   The company said it has been collaborating with AT&T, T-Mobile, …

Trump sued for ‘corrupt’ use of White House South Lawn to celebrate his 80th birthday with UFC fight

Trump sued for ‘corrupt’ use of White House South Lawn to celebrate his 80th birthday with UFC fight

A federal lawsuit is seeking to block a controversial UFC fight card scheduled for the White House South Lawn, an event timed to coincide with Donald Trump‘s 80th birthday and the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Filed on Saturday by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two Virginia residents, the legal challenge contends the Trump administration’s authorization of the June 14 event was unlawful. The suit alleges violations of National Park Service regulations, which prohibit sporting events on federal parklands, and claims Congress did not consent to a towering arch planned for the space. Furthermore, it states that no environmental review was conducted before construction began. Brendan Ballou, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs, asserted the core motivation behind the legal action. “This is fundamentally a private, commercial, corrupt use of our most sacred national monuments for private gain,” he stated. “And that is what is motivating this lawsuit.” In response, the White House issued a statement dismissing the legal challenge as “an obstructionist, baseless, and dilatory” attempt to prevent Trump from hosting the fight. Erewhon sued in Culver City over a rent dispute

Erewhon sued in Culver City over a rent dispute

Trendy Erewhon, the reigning Rolls-Royce of grocery stores, has fallen behind in rent payments for its Culver City outpost, its landlord says. Erewhon is being sued for more than $275,000 by Hackman Capital Partners, an international real estate giant based in Culver City with a property portfolio that includes famous movie studios, office buildings and stores. Among Hackman properties is Culver Steps, a popular office and retail complex where Erewhon is an anchor tenant and attraction for visitors who linger in the center’s outdoor spaces. It’s near Hackman’s Culver Studios, where Amazon makes movies and shows. As is typical at Erewhon, the fare at the Culver City store is pricey: $33 for a fish combo plate, $18.50 for a bacon and egg breakfast burrito and $23 for poke nachos in the cafe. The new antioxidant-rich You’re Doing Amazing Smoothie by Kris Jenner costs $22. The grocer didn’t respond to a request for comment, but a retail property expert familiar with store leases estimated that Erewhon would need to gross more than $1 million per week …
