Via Middle East Eye Turkey’s new commitments to Saudi Arabia under the Mecca defence pact could increase the risk of Ankara being drawn into a confrontation with Yemen‘s Houthis, a development that could have significant consequences for Turkish supply lines to the Horn of Africa. Although Turkey has yet to ratify the pact, expected in October, continued Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, and Ankara’s recent participation in the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance make some form of confrontation possible. Several regional experts interviewed by Middle East Eye said Ankara does not want a clash with the Houthis. Instead, they suggested Turkey could use its relationships with Saudi Arabia and Iran to help defuse tensions while deploying military equipment to help Riyadh better defend itself.  A Turkish official told MEE that Riyadh had not formally requested Ankara’s assistance under the Mecca pact, which brings together Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Kalshi and Polymarket Global combined for $14.10 billion in contract volume during the Sept. 7-13 week that opened the NFL regular season, according to a DeFi Rate volume report. That was up 9.3% from $12.90 billion the previous week, with football, US Open tennis, esports playoffs and Federal Reserve positioning among the main drivers of activity. Kalshi Widens Its Lead Total trades across both platforms climbed 10.7% to 86.50 million. Kalshi generated $12.98 billion of the combined volume, up 9.4% week over week, giving it a 92.1% share, a record for the platform. Polymarket Global rose 7.6% to $1.11 billion, or 7.9% of the total, while Polymarket US logged $818.52 million across its five available daily reports. Sports contracts were the largest source of retail trading activity during the week, with Kalshi and Polymarket Global combining for $3.76 billion. Amazon Prime Video is coming after TikTok with the addition of short-form news clips. The company said on Monday that it’s expanding its news coverage to include on-demand news clips offering both local and national stories. These will be available on TVs and other living room devices, but will soon roll out to the web and Prime Video’s mobile apps, the company said. The clips will be available in the News destination within the Prime Video app in its Trending Topics and the Local News carousels. They join Prime Video’s existing local, national, and world news coverage from a number of major providers, which are available to everyone in the U.S. regardless of whether they have a Prime subscription. Amazon could not yet confirm whether the clips on mobile would be oriented for vertical video or not, only that they would be considered short-form content on iOS and Android.
