Teenage girl raped as she slept by evil baby-faced 19-year-old | UK | News

A 19-year-old has been jailed after sexually assaulting and raping a teenage girl as she slept. Ryan Upton, of Moorland Road, Sandbach, Cheshire, pleaded guilty to rape and assault by penetration. Upton and the victim had been at an address in Crewe on Boxing Day 2024 when he had sexually assaulted her while she was asleep, Cheshire Constabulary said. Upton also raped the victim who fled from the address following the assault. A passer-by found the victim who helped her to call the police. Upton was then arrested but in an interview with investigators, denied the offences. However forensic tests provided a positive DNA match for Upton who was then charged with the crimes which he later admitted in court. DC Sallis, of Cheshire Constabulary, said: “This lengthy custodial sentence reflects the severity of what Upton did – something which he ultimately had no choice but to admit due to the strength of the forensic evidence against him. “We would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for reporting this offence …

Teenage rapists judge was told of jail term in similar case

Teenage rapists judge was told of jail term in similar case

The judge who spared three boy rapists from jail had been advised that the offences mirrored a similar case in which the perpetrator received a custodial sentence. Judge Nicholas Rowland prompted a backlash when he decided not to jail two 15-year-old boys who had raped two girls, one at knifepoint, in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. The attacks had been filmed and footage put online. The two boys were instead given youth rehabilitation orders, as was the third, aged 14, who had “aided and abetted” the rapes. Judge Rowland said he wanted to “avoid criminalising these children unnecessarily”. On Tuesday, Lord Hermer, the Attorney General, judged the sentences to be “unduly lenient” and referred the case to the Court of Appeal to decide whether the boys should have their punishment increased. It has now emerged that Jodie Mittell KC, the prosecutor in the case, had cited a previous trial in which a 15-year-old boy convicted of three rapes, digital penetration and sexual assault had received an eight-year custodial sentence. Earlier case had similarities In her note, Ms Mittell …

Minister Grows Emotional While Discussing Teenage Rape Victim's Case

Darren Jones on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg A minister grew visibly emotional on live TV this morning following a troubling BBC interview with a teenage rape victim. A girl who was raped by two teenage boys told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that the judge’s decision to spare her attackers jail was like a “rock straight in my face”. Speaking anonymously with her family, she said the move “always made it seem as if what the boys did was not OK, but it was OK in the eyes of the law because they were still children”. Judge Nichoas Rowland said on Thursday he wanted to avoid “criminalising” the “very young” boys. The attorney general, Lord Hermer, is set to review the sentence. The two defendants were also convicted of attacking another victim with a third boy. Both rapes were filmed by the boys and some of the footage was shared online. Chief secretary to the prime minister Darren Jones, who has three daughters, told the BBC that the government is looking at this case “urgently”. He …

Judge bans reporting on trial of six men accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls in Bristol

Judge bans reporting on trial of six men accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls in Bristol

Six men have gone on trial at Bristol crown court accused of grooming and sexually assaulting vulnerable teenage girls in the city. They were allegedly part of a large group of men who abused girls over several years. All six men deny the charges against them, which involved “multiple complainants”. The trial is expected to last 12 weeks but reporting restrictions mean full details, including the defendant’s names, cannot be revealed. After a challenge to the restrictions by media organisations including the Guardian, Judge Macmillan, who is overseeing the trial, allowed some information about the case and the nature of the charges to be reported, acknowledging there was a public concern about “grooming gangs”. She said: “There is a particular public interest at the present in information about serious sexual offending carried out by ‘grooming gangs’ and in issues of transparency about such matters. These issues are, quite properly, subjects of significant public comment and concern.” Earlier this year, the prosecution applied for a postponement of all reporting of the trial until all verdicts had …

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma review: Schoenbrun crafts another instant cult classic

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma review: Schoenbrun crafts another instant cult classic

A star rating of 5 out of 5. No one else is currently making films quite like Jane Schoenbrun. With their first two films – We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow – the writer/director showcased an incredible talent for creating spellbinding, dreamlike atmospheric works that melded a variety of influences including David Lynch, internet ‘creepypasta’ and their own trans identity into something wholly fresh and uniquely disquieting. Now comes their most high-profile release yet, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which has just opened the Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The great news is that this is another immensely mesmeric and evocative piece of filmmaking, one that further cements Schoenbrun as one of the most exciting directors to emerge this decade. As with TV Glow, the film revolves at least in part around a fictional cult media franchise, with the earlier film’s Buffy-like TV show The Pink Opaque replaced here with a Friday the 13th-inspired slasher series called Camp Miasma (which boasts …

‘Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma’ Comes Alive at Cannes

Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma came alive at the Cannes Film Festival Wednesday night with a world premiere at Debussy Theatre to kick off the Un Certain Regard lineup. And the Cannes crowd greeted Schoenbrun’s bloody effort with a warm reception and standing ovation that clocked in at just under six minutes after the credits rolled, as well as a four-minute speech from the filmmaker. At one point, Schoenbrun mimicked smoking a joint and hugged their stars. Later, they started clapping to gin up the standing ovation to go on for longer. Schoenbrun then offered additional remarks at the end of the ovation — Einbinder said loudly, “What now?” — and thanked the entire team: “Thank you for bringing your open hearts.” In a moment that prompted cheers and laughter from attendees before the screening, Schoenbrun began their onstage speech with: “There’s this song by Drake called, ‘Started from the Bottom.’ It goes, ‘Started from the bottom, now we’re here!” They added: “It’s unbelievable, I can’t believe we’re standing up here …
