Misan Harriman complaints AI generated says IPSO

Telegraph article which started furore Press regulator IPSO says it has received nearly 25,000 accuracy complaints relating to coverage in multiple newspapers of comments made by Misan Harriman about an incident where two Jewish men were attacked with a knife in Golders Green, London. IPSO raised concerns that many of the complaints may have been generated using artificial intelligence. As a result the watchdog has alerted the Information Commissioner and sought guidance. A platform called Newscord says more than 100,000 complaints have been generated using a service whereby it generates detailed complaint letters on behalf of users at the click of a button. Press Gazette understands the suspicion is that AI was used to file multiple complaints from fake people using this platform. It highlighted news reports and leader columns in the Telegraph, Times, GB News, Mail, Express and Evening Standard about Harriman, a filmmaker and chairman of the Southbank Centre. Subscriptions pages for the Financial Times, The Telegraph, The Scotsman and Bloomberg Media on 23 January 2026 Digital news subscriptions prices have increased by an average of 3% in the UK for the second year running, according to Press Gazette analysis. However many publications were offering discounts in January of up to 89%, indicating that many consumers may be able to avoid paying the full price. Of 23 publications included in Press Gazette’s dataset both in January 2025 and January 2026, ten increased their annual digital subscription prices in the past year. Six saw no change in annual price and seven reduced the cost of their digital subscription. As a result the average percentage change among these 23 digital news subscriptions was 3%, close to the UK inflation rate of 3.6% (2.7% in the US) over the past 12 months. This contrasts to UK national newspaper cover prices, which were up by an average of 10% in the past year as publishers look to make up for falling newsstand sales and advertising. Alan Rusbridger Former Guardian and Prospect editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger has joined The New World as editor-at-large. The New World, which rebranded from The New European last summer, said Rusbridger will contribute major essays and analysis and help shape its expanding global remit. Co-founder and editor-in-chief Matt Kelly said: “Alan is one of the true giants of contemporary journalism. “Having him on board The New World at this moment – when the world is fragmenting and the need for rigorous, independent journalism has never been greater – is both an honour and a huge statement of intent for our magazine.” Rusbridger left Prospect at the end of last year after four years at the helm of the current affairs magazine leading its transformation from a “primarily print title into a modern multimedia company with a rapidly expanding digital presence”.
