Tottenham chief executive Venkatesham says complete reset required

LONDON, May 27 : Tottenham Hotspur chief executive Vinai Venkatesham says the club needs a complete reset and a return to prioritising the football part of the business after narrowly escaping relegation from the Premier League on Sunday. Venkatesham was appointed just over a year ago having stepped down from a similar role at Arsenal and said some aspects of the club were ‘significantly worse’ than expected. “It was very clear that this wasn’t some form of turnaround that was required of the club in quite a few areas. It was really a complete reset,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC. Venkatesham was appointed by executive chairman Daniel Levy, who stood down last September after nearly 25 years at the club. Under Levy’s reign Tottenham moved into a new state-of-the-art stadium in the same location as the original one while the club has a world-class training ground often used by England’s national team during international breaks. Levy was blamed by many fans, however, for Tottenham’s decline on the pitch, accusing him of being …

De Zerbi vows to stay at Tottenham even if side relegated

May 24 : Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi reiterated his commitment to the relegation-threatened Premier League club, saying he would stay on even if they were to drop into the second tier of English football. Tottenham are two points above West Ham United in the final relegation spot, and a home draw with Everton on Sunday in their final league game of the season would almost certainly be enough to ensure their survival, as the North London club have a superior goal difference. However, if they lose to Everton and West Ham beat Leeds United, Tottenham could be relegated from the top flight for the first time since 1977. In April, De Zerbi said he would remain in charge of the club next season regardless of results. When asked on Friday if he would stick to his word, the Italian told reporters: “Yeah, I confirm everything. “It’s still an honour to be a coach for Tottenham, even if on Sunday we play for the relegation fight, it’s not a problem. I consider football something …

Tottenham v Everton Premier League TV channel, live stream, kick-off time

All eyes will be on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League when they host Everton on a dramatic final day of the season on Sunday. Tottenham need to beat the Toffees to guarantee their place in next term’s top flight, although a point should be enough to help them avoid a sticky situation thanks to their superior goal difference over relegation rivals West Ham. Roberto De Zerbi’s side could have put any final-day nail-biting to one side by beating Chelsea on Tuesday, but they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge – their first loss since the former Brighton boss’ maiden game in charge a month ago. A disappointing end to the season has kiboshed Everton’s hopes of European qualification. The Toffees are winless in their last six outings and the irony is unlikely to be lost on West Ham fans that they need former boss David Moyes to do them a favour. Radio Times has rounded up everything you need to know about how to …

Three things we learned from Tottenham loss as relegation shootout looms

It was another game and another missed opportunity for Spurs, who will be taken right to the wire by West Ham in their fight for Premier League survival. Relegation race goes down to the wire Tottenham’s relegation fears will be stretched to the limit as their dreadful record against Chelsea continued with their eighth successive defeat at Stamford Bridge. Spurs missed their opportunity to pull away from West Ham when they drew at home to Leeds last week, and they failed once again to make the most of the Irons slipping up. Roberto De Zerbi has one last chance to keep Spurs up PA De Zerbi’s side remain favourites to stay up, with West Ham having lost their last three games, but the final day can always conjure up a surprise. Spurs must be wary not to lose their grasp on 17th place at the last moment. West Ham have looked like a beaten team in recent weeks, but they are still in the hunt and will know that pressure can do funny things to …

Sadiq Khan: ‘Londoners should be hoping West Ham stay up as £2.5m bill looms if Hammers are relegated’

Londoners should be cheering on West Ham over Tottenham as taxpayers face a £2.5m bill if the club is relegated, Sir Sadiq Khan has said. Sitting 18th in the Premier League table with just two games left, the Hammers are staring at relegation. Just one place above the drop zone in 17th, Spurs also remain in serious danger of falling into the Championship. The Mayor of London blamed his predecessor Boris Johnson for doing “the worst deal imaginable”, which will mean if West Ham remain in the bottom three at the end of the season City Hall will be hit with a huge bill. He told the Standard: “What I’d say to Londoners who don’t support Spurs is you should probably be cheering on West Ham.” “The previous Mayor, Boris Johnson, did the worst deal that can be imaginable,” he added. “As far as West Ham are concerned, as a deal of the century where he basically gave them rent free, this amazing stadium for 100 years. “Now if West Ham are relegated, we, the …
