Southport killer Axel Rudakubana has been transferred from prison to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has confirmed. Officials approved the transfer on behalf of ministers, but a spokesperson for the department stressed it does not alter his 52-year sentence. Rudakubana carried out an attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29, 2024, killing three girls – Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine; Bebe King, six; and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven. The move to Broadmoor high security hospital from the category A prison Belmarsh was first reported by the Guardian on Thursday. The MoJ spokesperson said: “The families of those murdered and injured in Southport will be in this country’s heart forever and our thoughts remain with them. “Any decision to transfer an offender is made following an independent, clinical assessment, under the Mental Health Act. “Following rigorous security checks, the offender has been transferred to a high-security psychiatric unit, where he will remain until assessed fit to return to prison. “Officials have approved this transfer, on behalf of Ministers. It was not clear for how long her sentence is suspended, the foundation said. Mohammadi had been imprisoned since December in Zanjan prison. She lost consciousness twice and was transferred to a local hospital on May 1. A statement from her foundation, shared with The Associated Press, said the suspended sentence is not enough and that Mohammadi needs “permanent, specialized care.” The statement added that “we must ensure she never returns to prison to face the 18 years remaining on her sentence. Now is the time to …

Why Islamic State group prisoners in northeast Syria are being transferred to Iraq

BEIRUT (AP) — Recent fighting between Syrian government forces and Kurdish fighters in northeast Syria got close to detention facilities where thousands of Islamic State group members are held. The U.S. military says that it has started the process of transferring many of them to secure locations in Iraq. Syrian government forces have taken control of one of the detention facilities where about 9,000 IS members are held in Syria. About 120 inmates fled from the Shaddadeh prison on Monday near the Iraqi border. Syrian authorities say that most of them have been recaptured. During the battles that the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, fought against IS over the past decade, thousands of fighters of different nationalities were captured and have been held in around a dozen prisons in northeast Syria. The U.S.-backed Syrian forces also captured tens of thousands of mostly women and children linked to IS. Most of them have been held in the sprawling al-Hol camp near Iraq. A smaller group is held in the Roj camp, near where the frontiers …

Nobel Institute Says Peace Prize Cannot Be Transferred After Machado Suggestion

PALM BEACH, Florida, Jan 10 (Reuters) – ‌The Norwegian Nobel Institute said ‌the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be transferred, shared, or revoked, following remarks by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado suggesting she might ‍give her 2025 award to U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement, the institute said the decision to award a Nobel Prize is final and permanent, citing the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, which do not allow appeals. The organization also noted that committees awarding the prizes do not comment on the actions or statements of ‌laureates after receiving awards. “Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, ‌shared or transferred to ‍others,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute said on Friday. “The decision is final and stands for all time.” On Monday, Machado, speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News, said that presenting the prize to Trump would be an act of gratitude from the Venezuelan people for the removal of Nicolás Maduro, the country’s president, who was captured last week by the United States.  …
