During an interview with El Salvadorian radio station YSKL, Campbell said: ““There’s only been one time that I felt it was gonna kill me. In the winter of 2023, I got really scared about what was happening and the pace at which it was happening. “And I realised at that point that I had to do a donor transplant. It was my only hope to survive.” Vivian Campbell at the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025 (Getty Images) Campbell revealed that he got a stem cell transplant in January 2025, but it “didn’t stick”. “So the cancer …

The 44-year-old comedian, writer and actor won fans over as a contestant on season 20 of the hit Channel 4 show, which aired in 2025. While Ellis did not win the series, with that honour going to Maisie Adam instead, he did come away from the show with something else: a hair transplant. Speaking to Metro, Ellis said: “I’d never been that insecure about my hair, to be honest. I’ve been thinning for so long, it was so gradual. “I was quite lucky really, it suited me, a receding hairline. But it took 20 years and then I went, ‘Right, I’m definitely going now mate.’” It was when he saw his own head at a bird’s-eye-view on camera for Taskmaster that he really …

NHS rolls out new treatment to prevent kidney transplant rejections

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore The NHS is introducing a “double matching” blood process for kidney transplant patients to help ensure donated organs are less likely to be rejected. In addition to ensuring blood types match, scientists will now align white blood cells as closely as possible. NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) stated that the initiative could potentially prevent 100 kidney transplants from being rejected each year. Health leaders also hope the move will decrease the number of individuals waiting years for an organ, with some patients currently remaining on the waiting list for decades. Health service officials are rolling out the scheme nationwide for all kidney transplant patients following a successful pilot at London’s Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Free. Approximately two in every five kidney transplant recipients require blood transfusions either before or after their operation. After a transfusion, some individuals produce antibodies; if …

The Download: an organ transplant breakthrough, and homegrown Chinese chips

But now, scientists have come up with a device that allows organs to be cooled to -4 °C (25 °F) without forming any ice. They’ve tested it with pig organs and shown that kidneys, at least, can be preserved in the device for days then successfully transplanted.  Read our story about their breakthrough, and why it raises hopes for longer-term storage of donated human organs. —Jessica Hamzelou If you want to read more about this story and its implications for organ preservation and transplantation, sign up to receive The Checkup, our weekly biotech newsletter, later today. I thought you should know that I recently received a kidney transplant from a very kind and generous living donor,” Hall wrote in posts shared across his social media accounts on Tuesday. “It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I’m already starting to feel better. It was, according to my doctors, a complete success!” Hall further wrote that he “should be back to normal in a few months,” saying that there’d be more of his shows from his Daryl’s House series on the way soon as well. The singer didn’t share any other specifics regarding his health, such as why he needed a new kidney or how long he’d been sick. THR has reached out to a representative for more information. Faecal transplant makes the brains of old mice act young again

Jackson/Science Photo Library A faecal microbiome transplant (FMT) could make an aged brain as adaptable as a young one. Our gut microbiome has been linked to our risk of depression and may even play a role in shaping our personality. But for the first time, a study has shown that older mice given the gut microbiomes of younger animals via an FMT experience improved brain plasticity. This meant they could overcome a condition similar to amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, which is typically only successfully treated in childhood. “This study suggests that microbial communities may help regulate critical periods of brain development by defining when developmental windows of heightened plasticity open and close,” says Parisa Gazerani at Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway, who wasn’t involved in the work. “It suggests that the gut microbiome may be an active developmental partner that helps shape neural circuit maturation alongside sensory …

Jailed Marius Borg Hoiby reunites with his mother Crown Princess Mette-Marit following transplant – report

Marius Borg Hoiby has reportedly reunited with his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, as the Norwegian royal recovered from a lung transplant, according to a report in Scandinavian publication Se og Hor. The publication claimed that Marius has consistently been visiting his mother over the past few days, after he was moved to Ila Prison and Detention Center on Friday. Marius, who had been held in jail on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, was smuggled into Oslo University Hospital through a back entrance in order to avoid photographers. The report of Marius’ visits to his mother comes just days after he was found guilty of two counts of rape and sentenced to four years in prison. The judgement was delivered on Monday, and while it cleared the 29-year-old of two other counts of rape, it found him guilty of many of the other offences he had been accused of. Marius, who joined the court session via video link, had pleaded not guilty to the most severe accusations, including rape. WATCH: All about the Norwegian royal …
