Kena Betancur | AFP | Getty Images Airline, hotel and other industry groups are urging the White House and top Trump administration officials to abandon a proposal that would cut off immigration processing at major airports, including Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, a United Airlines hub. United CEO Scott Kirby was set to discuss the proposal with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to convey the disruptions the policies could cause to travelers, according to two people familiar with the previously unreported call who spoke on condition of anonymity to talk about a private conversation. Airlines for America, a trade association whose members include American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines told White House officials this week that reducing Customs and Border Protection service at Newark, New Jersey’s airport would “create havoc” for U.S. citizens, which make up the bulk of the 20,000 passengers flying in internationally to the airport, according to a document that was seen …

Charly Triballeau | Afp | Getty Images Groups representing the largest U.S. airlines and hotel chains slammed the Trump administration’s potential halt of customs and immigration processing at “sanctuary city” airports, warning such a move could have “devastating” consequences on the industry. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in an interview on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Tuesday night that if “radical left Democrats” aren’t allowing the government to “enforce federal laws … we shouldn’t be processing international flights into their cities either.” The secretary’s comments came just ahead of the FIFA World Cup next month that is expected to bring millions of visitors to host cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, drawing alarm from the travel industry. Mullin said the Trump administration is “drawing up plans” but isn’t putting anything into place yet. The timing of the idea being floated raises questions about whether the administration is using its leverage to try to persuade cities whose immigration policies …

Official Warns US Could Halt Immigration, Customs Processing at ‘Sanctuary City’ Airports, Sources Say

WASHINGTON, May 21 (Reuters) – Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin privately warned that authorities could stop processing international travelers and cargo at major U.S. airports in “sanctuary cities” that have declined to cooperate with ‌the Trump administration’s immigration ‌crackdown, sources told Reuters. Mullin, who publicly made the threat in April during a Department of Homeland Security funding dispute, privately told travel executives last week that the department could opt to stop customs and immigrations processing of international travelers at airports in cities such as Denver, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Newark, Seattle and San Francisco. The Atlantic earlier reported Mullin’s comments to travel executives and cited sources as saying the move would likely occur some time after the end of the FIFA World Cup in the United States in July. Airlines for America, which represents major passenger and cargo airlines, said reducing customs staffing “at major airports would have a devastating effect on the airline and tourism industries, causing a significant operational disruption to carriers, travelers and the flow of international cargo.” U.S. …

Trump Vows U.S. Will Retrieve Uranium From Iran

WASHINGTON, May 21 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump vowed on Thursday that the United States will eventually recover Iran’s stockpile of ‌highly enriched uranium ‌despite comments from Iran that it will not hand over the material. “We will get it. We don’t need it, we don’t want it. We’ll probably destroy it after we get it, but we’re not going to let them have it,” Trump told reporters at the White House. Iran is believed to possess about 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium, which Trump says was buried by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes nearly a year ago. Retrieving the uranium is part of Trump’s central objective of his war on Iran that Tehran will not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued a directive that the country’s near-weapons-grade uranium should not be sent abroad, two senior Iranian sources told Reuters.  (Reporting by Katharine Jackson and Steve Holland; editing by Michelle Nichols) Copyright 2026 Thomson Reuters. Brian Kaiser | Bloomberg | Getty Images President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans are proposing suspending the federal gas tax as prices at the pump continue to soar ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Gasoline and oil prices have jumped since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran broke out more than two months ago. Iran has largely brought the Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries a fifth of the world’s oil, to a standstill since the first strikes began. Trump said in the Oval Office on Monday that he would “reduce” the tax, shortly after saying in an interview with CBS News that he wants to pause the tax “for a period of time.” “I think it’s a great idea,” he said in the CBS interview. “Yup, we’re going to take off the gas tax for a period of time, and when gas goes down, we’ll let it phase back in.” …

The sound of a mother’s voice can trigger the production of the hormone oxytocin, commonly known as the love hormone, in their child, Dr Susan Albers at the Cleveland Clinic said Friday. Oxytocin is made in the region of the brain that’s responsible for regulating mood and released into the bloodstream where it lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. And since we hear our mother’s voices even in the womb, we’re used to getting that oxytocin hit regularly, Albers, a psychologist at the clinic, explained. “The brain is wired early on to make a connection between safety and security and her voice, which can last into adulthood,” she said. No need for government budget airline bailout

No need for government budget airline bailout

Blue | Bloomberg | Getty Images U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Saturday he does not think the government needs to bail out low-cost airlines that have sought $2.5 billion in government relief because of high jet fuel prices, following the collapse of Spirit Airlines. “At this point, I don’t think it’s necessary. They do have access to cash. If they want to come to the U.S. government, we would be a lender of last resort. If they can find dollars in the private markets — I think that’s better for them,” Duffy said at a press conference at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. He said the prospect of a Spirit bailout was seen by some other airlines as an opportunity to get money “not necessarily based on need, but based on opportunity.” On Monday, a group of U.S. budget airlines, …
