I traveled 2,700 miles with Sony, Apple, and Sennheiser headphones – this pair sounded the best

Jada Jones/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. It’s become my custom to bring along two pairs of the latest headphones or earbuds when I have air travel planned — one pair for my outbound flight and one for my return.   Although I can gauge a pair of headphones’ performance on trips to the grocery store or while working in my home office, there’s no more authentic testing ground than the most overstimulating place I know: Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Also: I wore 5 different headphones across 8 flights – here’s how each pair handled my stress tests (2025) This time, I traveled with some of the latest headphones released this year to test them in a new environment. I took the Apple AirPods Max 2 and Sony WF-1000XM6 from Atlanta to New York City and back, and tested the Sennheiser Momentum 5 and the Sony 1000X The Collexion from Atlanta to Las Vegas and back. In an airport and on a plane, I can better understand my experience with a pair of …

D.C. gala gunman wrote ‘manifesto,’ traveled from California before attack, officials say

Cole Tomas Allen, the suspected gunman who rattled Washington’s leaders by exchanging gunfire with officials just outside a press gala late Saturday, had made a long journey from Southern California and written a “manifesto” threatening Trump administration officials before the attack, officials said. Allen, a 31-year-old Caltech graduate and high school tutor from Torrance, is believed to have taken a train first to Chicago and then to D.C. before checking into the Washington Hilton with two guns he had previously purchased, authorities said. The attacker managed to bypass several layers of security at the White House Correspondents’ Assn. dinner before being taken down by armed agents outside the ballroom where President Trump and an array of other top federal officials were seated. Members of law enforcement respond during the White House Correspondents Assn. dinner Saturday. (Tom Brenner / Associated Press) Neither Allen nor a legal representative for him could be reached for comment Sunday. According to Trump, Allen wrote a “manifesto” prior to the attack, and shared it with family. His brother flagged it to …

The Moon Astronauts Just Broke the Record for the Farthest Any Human Has Ever Traveled From Earth

The Moon Astronauts Just Broke the Record for the Farthest Any Human Has Ever Traveled From Earth

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Roughly five days after taking off from the historic Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the four crew members of the space agency’s Artemis 2 mission have officially entered unprecedented territory. The daring team officially broke the record for the farthest any human has ever traveled from Earth this evening — previously set in 1970 by NASA’s Apollo 13 mission — when they reached a distance of 252,752 miles from home just after 2 pm Eastern time on Monday. That’s a hair further than the 248,655 miles from Earth that NASA astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert reached during their ill-fated foray around the Moon 76 years ago, on Apollo 13. It was supposed to culminate in humanity’s third crewed lunar landing, following Apollo 11 and 12, but an oxygen tank explosion disabled the life-support systems, forcing the team to loop around the Moon in an unusually wide trajectory to eventually return …

6 Best Trail Running Shoes of 2026 for the Path Less Traveled

The Best Trail Shoes for Long Runs: Arc’teryx Norvan LD 4 Arc’teryx Norvan LD 4 GTX Trail-Running Shoes The maximalist approach is popular among long-distance shoes, but comes at a cost for those of us who like to turn on the speed when the impulse strikes. The updated Norvan LD 4 GTX does an impressive job of distributing its lightweight InFuse midsole—made with recycled EVA—along the chassis in a way that feels soft and comfortable in the heel and midfoot while coasting, and responsive in the forefoot when it’s time to open up down a fire road or negotiate trickier, rugged terrain. The fit is satisfyingly secure, with the thick, meshy tongue wrapping your foot in place, while the wide toe box lets your toes splay. The stealthy shoelace pocket is the cherry on top of the LD 4 GTX’s undeniably sleek silhouette. More Trail Running Shoes We Love New Balance Minimus Trail These shoes are absolutely feral. Not only do they deliver the most natural feel of all the shoes we tested, but there’s …

BrainMaxxing: the road less traveled in the age of AI

BrainMaxxing: the road less traveled in the age of AI

For as long as people have been putting effort into anything, there’s been a push to get the most “bang” for your “buck.” More simply, it’s to get the greatest amount out by putting the least amount in. And if that’s what you’re after — that type of optimization — you might have heard of the term BrainMaxxing: the evolution of the mental part of what was once called lifehacking. Unfortunately for those of you who are truly seeing to grow your minds, that arena is full of what can only be rightfully called grift: detoxing your body from activities that give you the “hit” of a mental reward, giving your brain a regular schedule of structured activities that stimulate your cognitive efforts, supplements to “wake your brain up” optimally and “give your brain rest” at the appropriate time, and using digital tools to, as one dedicated website calls it, maximize your brain potential. While the BrainMaxxing movement does have a large amount of extraneous, profiteering aspects surrounding it, the idea at the core of …
